To be totally fed up with dogs?

dogtroubl · 14/04/2022 13:50

When we moved in, neighbours had an old dog that used to wander into our garden and leave poo everywhere. Couldn’t use garden with young kids due to mess and large dog.

Complained (politely), after quite a bit of unpleasantness fence finally fixed, dog died and they got 2 new dogs that were loud but contained.

Neighbours moved, new neighbours also have 2 dogs and fence is in a bad state of repair again due to the constant barking, snarling and scratching that happens every time we go outside. I always make sure I’m out there with the kids in case it breaks because they don’t sound friendly at all.

Their neighbours also have 2 dogs so the 2 sets are always setting each other off barking.

Family members also have dogs. One very old who soils everywhere and one very large, young dog who is very playful and jumps up and licks and dribbles all over you.

My daughter is terrified (the dog is easily as tall as her) and the family member always says dog will be shut away when we go over, but dog is always let or gets out soon after. I can tell my daughter’s fear of this dog irritates the family member but she’s genuinely scared after an incident when she was a toddler, plus this dog is like a horse to her and could do serious damage even with just a nip.

We’ve been to a few kids’ playgrounds over the holidays, dogs off lead and running all over the place at each one. Chasing kids in a “playful” way that scares them.

Dog poo all over footpaths and verges everywhere. Kids tread in it, I tread in it, buggy goes in it because I don’t see it until it’s too late.

I know it’s bad owners not the dogs’ fault etc but AIBU to just be totally fed up with dogs?

@Travelledtheworld

It would be easier if both kids and dogs had firm boundaries, but I am not sure why kids are factoring into any discussions on here?

Kids have a higher status in society than dogs.

Trixiefirecracker · 15/04/2022 21:29

I have no idea why the comparisons are being made but it often happens. Dogs are not children. They are pets. They are way down on the pecking order. Some people may think differ it fortunately the law and ‘norma/sane’ people think otherwise. There are rules in having your dog under control because they are potentially extremely dangerous. Cumbria police have to issue warnings every year to entitled dog owners who think they can walk their dog across farmland without them being on a lead. I happen to know some extremely thoughtful and conscientious dog owners but they are in the minority. Sadly.

They might be way down your pecking order but they are certainly not way down mine.
rollinghillz · 15/04/2022 21:39

Why do some people compare dogs with children? I would never compare a person to a dog whatever their age. Weird

Kids are factored in because they, too, can often be found to be annoying. You reckon you've got a dog but I'm not seeing much sign of dog love from you.

Trixiefirecracker · 15/04/2022 21:45

Watch it! @tulip you haven’t reached the required level of dog worship and you have been rumbled by the dog police! How can you possibly have a dog and not think everything revolves around it and that you are justified and entitled to let it shit and piss everywhere it likes and run around off lead? This is just not right. Call yourselves a dog lover??? 😆😜

Labscollie · 15/04/2022 21:47

Bit like some mothers, whose kids should be worshipped by everyone else. In their entitled opinion.

Trixiefirecracker · 15/04/2022 21:47

@Labscollie I find queuing at airports extremely annoying, can I compare dogs and airports? I mean they are massively similar….

Labscollie · 15/04/2022 21:50

You can compare anything, when it comes to levels of annoyance. Quite bizarre that you think otherwise. You're coming from a nonsensical angle.

I think it might help the comparison if they are in the same ball park. This isn’t a thread about children but derailing it constantly to try and make it so with extraneous comparisons that are irrelevant seems like a huge waste of time. Over and out.
Labscollie · 15/04/2022 22:01

It's fairly common for somebody to offer an alternative example. Just because that example doesn't suit you, doesn't mean it's any less valid. I guess you're not a fan of analogies; no doubt they irritate you, just as much as dogs do.

Tulipblacksmith · 15/04/2022 22:18

@Labscollie

Nar, I like dogs. Not the shit owners though.

Also like analogies. Not shit ones though.

I know right? I’m an amateur 😉

YANBU - I’ve never got the dog thing. I like certain breeds but some of the gross fluffy mangy looking things we see - I just don’t get it.

InexperiencedDogOwner · 16/04/2022 00:19

YANBU - tried to have my lunch in a local park today. Lovely day so sat on the grass in the sun. Stupid bastard dogs kept running up to me trying to nick my lunch! Far from relaxing having to keep hiding my food every time one appeared Angry

figtrees · 16/04/2022 01:42

A good deal of society now prefer dogs to children so I'd say the 2 are highly comparable. I certainly like dogs much more in any situation. The demograph here ss squiffed obviously, as its a parenting website, so of course there is outrage att he very idea and upset at the 2 being compared.

I clean up after mine because I'm not a scumbag, but quiet frankly I don't give a fuck who it upsets taking my dog to parks or in public places. If somebody really hated dogs that much they just wouldn't go to these dog infested parks etc. Aounds to me almost like that they are looking for something to complain about in their otherwise miserable lives. You wouldn't find me hanging out at the splash playground then going off telling everybody how much I hate kids and how awful it is that shock horror there's kids on the splash playground.

Wider.open Park is a public space. Get your kids used to dogs because dogs aren't hound anywhere. Ever. Sucks to be you I guess.

figtrees · 16/04/2022 01:45

Dogs aren't going* anywhere.
Excuse typing I'm on mobile and its late.

HELLITHURT · 16/04/2022 06:36

@Squeekyturtle

HELLOTHURT I must have missed the bit where I said they don't Shut (presume you mean shit there ? But don't let that stop you accusing someone else of looking foolish!) Fart or stink.

They are bathed regularly and with a good diet and good training they only go in appropriate places and it is cleaned up immediately.

I was responding to the op complaining about dogs jumping up and barking and I was simply making the point that not all dogs do this if they are properly trained and if they aren't trained they shouldn't be off lead.

No need to be so rude.

Presume you meant HELLITHURT there? Not HELLOTHURT?

🙄

This thread is proving the truism that hating animals is a massive 🚩

Travelledtheworld · 16/04/2022 07:45

@Labscollie @Tulipblacksmith wow things get personal very quickly on here don't they ? My light hearted comment was in response to the post I quoted. No no Labscollie I don't have a dog but I am willing to walk my neighbours as long as he sits and stays as asked. My children have grown up now and they certainly never ran around screaming in restaurants. never had to keep them on a leash.

Well most die between 10 and 15 years & few lockdown dog owners will want to repeat the experience.

So hopefully over time we will get back to more manageable numbers and responsible owners.

Went for a long run on Dartmoor yesterday evening, saw no dogs but plenty of dog shit left behind.

ClinkeyMonkey · 16/04/2022 08:16

I have to laugh at the overblown and emotive language used by the doggy defenders on here. 'No marauding hordes of dogs taking chunks out of toddlers when I walked my dog this morning' and 'I wasn't wading ankle deep through dog shit today when I walked my dog' - that kind of thing. It's totally disingenuous.

Most of my runs/walks are uneventful, but those aren't the ones I remember. It's the handful of runs where I've felt unnerved by a free roaming dog charging towards me that I remember, where I've had paws scrabbling at my legs or nearly been tripped up. I don't want to be licked by a friendly dog that is plodding rather than charging towards me either. Why would I want the saliva of an animal on my skin or clothes? Of course it doesn't happen every day. Just like my children don't get dog shit on the wheels of their scooters every time they go out on them. It only needs to happen a few times to become really bloody annoying and to make you wish people didn't keep dogs as pets.

I'm fed up of having to smile and wave a hand dismissively when someone's dog jumps up at me. I want to tell them to control their bloody animal. And I wish I had made my SIL clean my rug when her dog pissed on it - 'aw bless her, she's so excited to see you' - instead of muttering that it was alright because I didn't want to offend her. Same dog spray-shat on my hall floor - again, sooo excited - and I had to use a knife to remove the faeces from between the floorboards. Yeah, don't cha just love them?

If you don't want to be tripped up don't run in dog walking areas.

I'm sick of runners coming up behind me, huffing and puffing and thinking they own the bloody park, a park that has dog litter bins and therefore used for dog walking and not just bloody runners.

Alexandra2001 · 16/04/2022 08:26

If you don't want to be tripped up don't run in dog walking areas

...and there we have it... as far as you are concerned, everywhere is a Dog walking area, where you & your hound can do what the fuck you like regardless of anyone else.

The sentence "Keep your dog under close control" is written in Martian and not for you to obey.

After 28 pages, we finally get down to what the majority of Dog owners really think.
