Just when you think this government can't get any worse - now they are going to send asylum seekers to Rwanda

I didn't vote for this shower. The problem with people arriving (if they make it) in small boats needs addressing but AIBU that sending them on a one way trip to Rwanda isn't the answer?

“Wasted”?? Jesus Christ just stop it. These are humans you are talking about. Humans that go on to be doctors, nurses, fill skilled labour gaps, have families, have kids. Humans that pay taxes in the UK.

“Wasted” is a sick comment and I’m shocked that you think it’s ok to say.

Parker231 · 19/04/2022 13:19

@Unphased

BewareTheLibrarians If they didn’t come, no money would be wasted on them, it could be used for more good in this country,
Where do you think the Syrians and Afghans should go when escaping the troubles in their own countries? Money isn’t being wasted on them - the U.K. government system is poor and takes way too long but the majority have the rights to stay in the U.K.

Yes of course, I forgot that all migrants go on to be doctors, etc, yes they have kids and the population grows so we need more people to service the people that are here, what would you say is the max population a tiny island like ours can sub stain?

Unphased · 19/04/2022 13:26

Parker231
If they didn’t try to come here, there would be know problem

Unphased · 19/04/2022 13:30

Parker231
Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait, Pakistan, plenty of countries around them, why risk coming all the way here?

Unphased · 19/04/2022 13:31

BewareTheLibrarians
I would imagine a very large percentage of the U.K. think it’s money wasted, especially at the moment

SleeplessInEngland · 19/04/2022 13:32

Actually the UK has a massive shortage of unskilled workers. If you're trying to make this an economic argument instead of an ideological one at least get the basics right.

Not exactly safe countries with a good human rights record!
BewareTheLibrarians · 19/04/2022 13:39

@Unphased I work with asylum seekers so I’m well aware of what work and training they do when their claims are agreed. Are you?

You seem a bit unaware that the reason that some asylum seekers go on to be doctors, engineers, high skilled jobs, is because that’s what they were doing before their country went to shit with civil wars etc. or are you one of those who thinks that all people from the Middle East and Africa are unskilled and uncivilised?

And for anger perspective, in my last cohort I had a group go on to be HVAC engineers, plumbers and electricians, including those who’d had no access to education due to wars and poverty. They worked so hard to get to where they are. They earn more money than I do, therefore pay more taxes than I do. Being young and fit, they’re more likely to be net contributors to our economy, although I probably shouldn’t tell you that in case you start demanding to ship our disabled and elderly to Rwanda instead.

Btw, our population density is much lower than Rwanda’s. UK = 281 per km2, Rwanda = 525 per km2.

Haha, no. Not by a long shot. The voices like yours are loud but not a majority.
BewareTheLibrarians · 19/04/2022 13:44

Sorry just re the “why don’t they stay in closer countries” question. The vast majority of asylum seekers do.

“World-wide around 85% of all refugees live in developing regions , not in wealthy industrialised countries, and 73% of refugees displaced abroad live in countries neighbouring their countries of origin.”

But that’s been covered before on these threads, hasn’t it?

SleeplessInEngland · 19/04/2022 13:47

It's strange that 'economic migrant' has become a dirty term. Willing to work and be taxed? Good! The UK is kidding itself if it thinks it doesn't need you...

Unphased · 19/04/2022 13:53

I think you would be very surprised outside your little bubble

Unphased · 19/04/2022 13:55

Why can’t they take more and save the people the long journey

BewareTheLibrarians · 19/04/2022 14:10

@Unphased why do you have so many questions but no comprehension of the answers? You’ve been given a lot of sources in my posts. You’ll find the answers in there.

Do you have any response to how the things you complain about are the fault of the government, and why you don’t attack them instead?

(And I’m proud to be in a bubble of positivity and helping and learning, and not a bubble of hate Smile)

lollipoprainbow · 19/04/2022 15:12

Are you seriously trying to imply that all the young men coming over on boats are future doctors and nurses??

Unphased · 19/04/2022 15:16

BewareTheLibrarians
I think the government are doing a good job, trying everything they can to stop them coming here, but are hindered by the small minority trying to stop them,
What do you think is a population figure that you would call the U.K. full, 75 million, 80 million, I am just wondering what figure is sustainable in the UK

Unphased · 19/04/2022 15:17

SleeplessInEngland
If they are economic migrants, why don’t they apply through the proper channels like, many other citizens do?

BewareTheLibrarians · 19/04/2022 15:25

@lollipoprainbow No, which is why I included the example of people I’ve worked with who’d had no access to education and went on to work in HVAC/plumbing etc Smile

Anyway. I know I probably come across as super antagonistic to some which is shit, but it’s so frustrating to see mistruths and stereotypes perpetuated again and again. If you have a group of people you care about for personal reasons like the homeless, disabled, or children with autism it would be equally frustrating to hear people spread damaging & quite horrible myths about them, and I’m sure you would stand up for the people you care about too.

lollipoprainbow · 19/04/2022 15:30

@BewareTheLibrarians I appreciate you telling me the facts rather than resorting to insults as some have posted here. Thank youSmile

Unphased · 19/04/2022 15:30

BewareTheLibrarians

Why don’t you care more for the people already in this country that will now be struggling with price rises, children that in poverty and haven’t had good access to education, that could go on to be plumbers etc if they had the same opportunities that are given to some migrants

BewareTheLibrarians · 19/04/2022 15:32

@Unphased I’ll ask again, where am I asking for immigration to be increased? I keep saying the current method the government use actually increases the number but you keep ignoring that. I’m not prepared to go round in circles when it’s already been explained quite a few times.

Wait I thought the government was doing a good job, I’m confused! Grin

What opportunities do you think migrants get? I honestly don’t mean that sarcastically, obviously people have valid reasons for their concerns. Is it ok to ask what opportunities you think migrants are taking from UK people?

Price rises and poor education is down to the failed government policies not migration.
