to think Easter stuff should be in the shops

till, well, it's actually been Easter? Just popped to Home Bargains and they are already clearing the shelves of all the Easter stuff. I wanted some mini eggs to do chocolate nests with DD and there wasn't any in sight of any variety!

I'm sure not that long ago seasonal stock stayed in the shops at least till the festival/event was over. When my DC were little, and they're only teens, I'would pick up the odd bargain after Christmas, Easter etc. Now, it seems like all trace of it is wiped out to make way for the next thing.

From a technical/Christian point of view, it's not even Easter until Sunday is it? We're still in Lent.

Every year is the same, Easter eggs, Halloween, Advent calendars. Surely people have realised by now they need to get them early especially if they want a choice of what to buy.

RampantIvy · 14/04/2022 00:00

Loads in Sainsburys.

Moonflower12 · 14/04/2022 00:13

I might have eaten all the mini eggs- hence there being none available.

Sparklingbrook · 14/04/2022 05:54

I agree that the ‘clearing’ of shelves was probably condensing the remaining stock into a smaller area.

ThinWomansBrain · 14/04/2022 06:27

I remember feeling a bit Shock when they were stocking supermarket shelves with easter eggs in January - why wouldn't they aim to sell out rather thsan have shelves full of the things a day or so before?

ThinWomansBrain · 14/04/2022 06:30

& I have just found out that I have won a large bowl full of small eggs that will be waiting for me at work today Grin🥚 Grin🥚 Grin🥚 Grin🥚

KatherineJaneway · 14/04/2022 06:44

Trouble is lots of people used to wait until the very last minute to shop as the shops would reduce Easter goods so they would clear the shelves and peoplewould get bargains. Shops are wiser now and run down stocks to almost nothing a few days before so they don't sell lots of discounted stock and make better profits.

It's all about marketing. Teaching us how to shop tsk. I don't buy brainwashing.
If necessary boil some eggs and get the paints out. Buy Bake a chocolate cake and if they have appropriate furry toys, bunnies and lambs for example, make a display with daffodils and other spring flowers.
Have a lovely Easter 😊 💐

Lovely ideas, but if my DS’ didn’t have a chocolate egg, I wouldn’t be popular! My two are 20 & 19 😂
Fullofhotcrossbuns · 14/04/2022 07:24

Easter stuff has been in the shops since January………

Skelligsfeathers · 14/04/2022 07:25

It is really really annoying.
Like b and q having no Christmas decorations left by the 12th December last year.
I really resent the constant speeding up of the year-always on to the next thing without time to enjoy the season we are in.

Skelligsfeathers · 14/04/2022 07:26

@Fullofhotcrossbuns

Easter stuff has been in the shops since January………
But why has it? Why should you have to go buying Easter eggs 4 months in advance? It is bonkers!
Howabsolutelyfanfuckingtastic · 14/04/2022 07:52

Happy Easter to you tooHowabsolutelyGlad you also got your mini eggs. I just need to hide mine or put a note on them so DS1 (16) doesn't eat them on one of his midnight kitchen raids!

Thank you @MrsDeaconClaybourne
Good luck with hiding your eggs, i hope they survive any midnight kitchen raids Grin

Sparklingbrook · 14/04/2022 07:53

It's the same most years. If you want a pick of the Easter stuff you don't need to buy it months before but it's sensible not to wait until the week before if you want something specific, surely?

dementedma · 14/04/2022 08:03

I'm planning on getting some today. DCs are adults so it wont be the end of the world if there are none left.

Tillerman · 14/04/2022 08:32

People buy early, I bought everything about a month ago. Something like mini eggs is easy to find though, they’re in lots of shops.

ifoundthebread · 14/04/2022 08:41

On the topic of Easter eggs and buying early, just a reminder that all kinder egg products have been recalled. So if you bought early and put away it is advised to return them or contact Ferrero for a refund.

This is what I meant really. I feel like in a small way it contributes to the stress and constant "busy-ness" of modern life. I don't want to be thinking about Easter and buying eggs in Jan or Feb. Lots of people can't afford to either and don't have the space to store them away from their DC.

I can see it makes good business sense though

I agree OP years ago they used to have the seasonal stuff in till at least the event (possibly some on sale a bit after)
Now they don't bother with it and sometimes it's all completely gone even close to the event
It does annoy me actually

10HailMarys · 14/04/2022 11:28

There are supply issues with loads of products at the moment - not just seasonal stuff but all sorts of random things. DP always uses a specific stick deodorant (a really common cheap brand but for some reason it seems to be the only one that doesn't give him a rash) and it isn't available anywhere at the moment.

And yeah, lots of places can't get Mini Eggs either! I asked a shop local to me at the weekend because I wanted to send some to a friend and they said they couldn't get hold of them and everyone was asking! I think it's a combination of import/export issues post-Brexit for products and ingredients, and big staff shortages from the pandemic for both manufacturers and distributors/suppliers.

Poppins2016 · 14/04/2022 11:34

@Duracellbunnywannabe

Surely eggs are pagen rather Christian. Lots of shops are closed on Easter Sunday and it makes sense for shops to stock just the right amount so they don’t have to discount easter stock.
However, arguably, running out mid week just before Easter isn't "just the right amount"!

But this isn't specific to this Easter It is now a general seasonal thing
purpleme12 · 14/04/2022 11:53

@Poppins2016 exactly they cant have the right amount in each time!

Sparklingbrook · 14/04/2022 20:07

I think 'running out' mid week before Easter means they can restock the shelves with what's being sold after Easter before the shop closes for the day on Easter Sunday when there's no staff in.
