Neighbours bins. Am I being petty?

I’m not in the best of moods tonight so am I being a bit ridiculous MN?…

My neighbour has a slightly narrower driveway than mine and on rubbish day he always puts his bins in front of my bushes - see diagram below.

He can’t really put them on the pavement on the right hand side of his drive as there is a lamppost (marked by yellow L) and the bins would block the pavement. However there would be space to put them on the left (red question mark) and still get a car in and out of the drive but instead they’re always in front of our drive.

It’s never really bothered me before but I’ve started to realise he does this every week now. It’s not just the bins being there but the bin men consistently leave bins directly in front of our driveway so I can’t get the car in and when I get home I have not just our own but the neighbours bins in the way.

Am I being a bit petty?

There's no drawing op!😀
No,if it's causing you to get out of your car, move their bins then get back in your car it's a nuisance and obstructing.
Have a word with your neighbour.🌻

lemongreentea · 12/04/2022 21:58

Diagram hasnt loaded. Move your bins and his bin in front of his drive so can understand how annoying that would be?

KarmaStar · 12/04/2022 21:58

Got drawing now

PattyMelt · 12/04/2022 21:59

If they are left in front of your drive wheel them off down the road, and hide them round the corner. It might make him put them in front of his drive, if not it'll make you laugh wile he looks for them.

ApolloandDaphne · 12/04/2022 21:59

You might find that even if your neighbour places their bins at the red question mark the bin men might still leave them in front of your drive once they are emptied.

Pyri · 12/04/2022 22:00

Nick his bins next time, he won’t do it again!

FairyCakeWings · 12/04/2022 22:01

Wherever your neighbour leaves his bins, the bin men are out of order to leave them right in front of your drive. That’s not the neighbours fault, and I’d call the council to ask them to be more considerate.

The neighbour could leave his bins closer to his side and probably should, but I can see why he’d not realise it was a problem for your driveway if the bins are in front of a bush.

Apandemicyousay · 12/04/2022 22:02

If you get on with your neighbours, can you just ask them to bring their bins in quickly when they get home, or earlier if WFH, as it blocks you coming home in evening.

JollyAndBright · 12/04/2022 22:03

I would drag them right into the centre of his drive every time I see them…. But I’m very petty.

SarahAndQuack · 12/04/2022 22:06

I wouldn't drag them to the centre of his drive, but would shift them over so I could get in. The obvious place they'd end up would be in front of his drive. If he's bothered by that he could put them else where in the first place.

DDivaStar · 12/04/2022 22:08

To be fair your neighbour is putting them in front of your bushes and its the bin men leaving them obstructing your drive.

Datsandcogs · 12/04/2022 22:09

Why not put your bins out in front of your house but on his side?

user1471530109 · 12/04/2022 22:09

Put your bins where he does. Get out there first!

SpottyPantsNextDoor · 12/04/2022 22:12

FairyCakeWings
That’s very true. They’ve been leaving in the middle for years…surely not leaving bins directly in front of driveways is part of basic training?!

There’s no rhyme nor reason as to where our bin men put ours and the neighbours bins. Just move them to the spot you think they should go in every week maybe your neighbour will get the hint.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 12/04/2022 22:30

Re the binmen, I think you’re being unreasonable. They have so many houses do to and probably not as much time as they’d like. Yes it’s annoying but it’s really not worth stressing over

Re the neighbours, put your bins where they put theirs. See what happens.

pictish · 12/04/2022 22:36

“Wherever your neighbour leaves his bins, the bin men are out of order to leave them right in front of your drive. That’s not the neighbours fault, and I’d call the council to ask them to be more considerate.”

Would you really though? Would you find the phone number and be put on hold for 45 minutes to tell someone in a council office somewhere who doesn’t give a shit, that the binmen keep leaving the neighbour’s wheelie bin in front of your drive?

pictish · 12/04/2022 22:37

Cos I wouldn’t. Have to say.

You can report the fact your bins are being left obstructing your drive, I have had to do this as I constantly had to park up, remove my bin obstruction and then get back in my car and put it on my drive. I think I emailed them with photos. It definitely stopped.

Up to you if you want to move their bins in front of their drive to where you think they should go, or ask them to move them over.

JunhaLamra · 12/04/2022 22:43

Or what Chlo says get your bins out first and put them where he puts his.

@SpottyPantsNextDoor
Sympathies. My neighbour has one car, but has two driveways - both of which can take 5 cars each with ease. So plenty of space for two wheelie bins in bins day. I have one small drive which just about takes my smart car sized car. - it’s tiny! I put my bins beside my car on my grass…. My neighbour puts her bins in front of my car, or she did. Those bins kept mysteriously going on holiday until she got the message not to put them on my drive.
No amount of asking her, or putting them on her drive worked. It wasn’t until she realised her bins were never going to be emptied, did she start putting them on her own drive.

Bin men return all bins to the place they got them from around these parts. They don’t come back the next day for bins which weren’t kerbside in the first place.

pictish · 12/04/2022 22:53

I don’t know how you could be arsed. When I start making phone calls about wheelie bins it’s over for me. I’d just move it to the side and go about my day.
