To hav a day "off" from being a SAHM?

Yesterday was the childrens' first day back at school/nursery and dh was at work. I decided to have a day off, so apart from the school runs and cooking supper for them and later dh an I I did nothing housework wise etc. DH was rather surprised when he got home (he assumed I would take advantage of the time to myself to spruce up the house after the chaos of the holidays). He occasionally takes a day off work and does nothing so why can't I do likewise?

No I don't have to justify how I spend my days because I have dinner on the table and a clean house when Mr Banks gets in at 6.02

p.s. I have some painters coming at the end of the month, am V. excited

That's all right then...

yogimum · 08/01/2008 21:43

I lose weight when dh is away. When he is here its alway "whats for pudding?"

ladymariner · 08/01/2008 21:48

To paint what? We're decorating our living room soon, I know it's sad but I can't wait, I've hated the way it is now since we moved in but wanted to wait till we could afford to do it exactly how I want, it's got huge windows so looking at exorbitant prices for curtains but hey, it'll be worth it. (at least, that's what I keep telling dh )

For the avoidance of doubt I didn't mean to imply that the more a man is promoted and more he earns the more any adultery of his is justified. I just meant the truth - that most people that stray are away from their partners hence many many couples not allowing such separations but not every one is like that.

geordiemacminx · 08/01/2008 21:54

I read this and thought "hmmm thats a good idea, I might have a day off tomorrow. Will still have to look after ds, but apart from
that I'll do nothing"

Then it struck me... if I dont do all the hosuehold stuff tomorrow, I'll just have twice as much to do on Thursday..doh

morningpaper · 08/01/2008 21:56

Sadly my painters are provided by our insurance company to paint over the large cracks caused by subsidence. Can't even change the colours...

ComeOVeneer · 08/01/2008 21:58

Xenia, one thing I am sure of is dh would never stray in that way.

I can't wait to change my colours - big, heavy dark green curtains, swirly wallpaper and an extremely patterned carpet!! Actually, it's not as bad as it sounds but it's not good!!
Roll on creams and warm browns....and the odd splash of gold!

cov why on earth do you feel guilty for giving DH fish and salad? Now YABU. Think what you are doing for his health, giving him this occasionally instead of your usual feasts.

Judy1234 · 09/01/2008 07:23

If you feed them well enough and give them enough and good enough sex they aren't supposed to stray anyway.

Amused by this concept of feeding men and staying at home as a mother etc entirely different world from many people.

SueBaroo · 09/01/2008 08:56

I don't feed my husband. He's a big boy, he knows how to use a knife and fork all by himself.

I don't think it is necesarily to do with being a SAHM. My DH and I both work full time. He takes days off work to play golf, clothes shop and have a lie in. I use my identical annual leave entitlement to look after sick DD, cover for Nanny sickness, cover school holidays, visit dentist etc. On Friday (still school holds) he took a day off to play golf even though it meant we had to pay a nanny for 10 hrs when he could have looked after DD. But it just doesn't occur to him! If I am re-incarnated I am coming back as a man!

Judy1234 · 09/01/2008 12:54

LasV why do you let that happen? Most women wouldn't.

I think you need to do the same back. Do you have a golf equivalent. It's not that he's wrong - most adults need time off but perhaps that you're wrong in not making any for yourself and then feeling resentful about it.

chipmonkey · 09/01/2008 13:56

Lasvegas, what you need is a day off in a spa, paid for by dh and the nanny paid for that day too!
