Rishi Sunak’s wife is NOT elected OR in a public role but she is a woman

BigGreenSpacehopper · 08/04/2022 09:05

Have you noticed that Zac Goldsmith (elected), Mark Carney (role of significance to all of us as Govenor of the Bank of England), 4th Viscount Rothmere (controlling shareholder and Chair of the Daily Mail) all have non Dom status but no mention is really made. However, a woman, who has no public role, has never said anything public, is being criticised for her non Dom status?

And yes she’s getting massive dividends but I imagine as it’s family money there is a massive pre-nup in place so it’s not like Rishi will be able to run off with it!

I don't need to because I know I am at the top of the totem pole when it comes to this sort of work.

You have showed a consistent inability in this thread to look at the situation with the Chancellor with an objective lens. Purely for ideological reasons. That is always the mark of someone of below average competence.

Oh stop it, you are too 🤣🤣🤣
I want to tell you were to stick your totem pole but I’m too politeSmile

So no, no nerve touched. Just predictable.*

If you are at the top of the pole does the Chancellor doff his cap to you?

HardyBuckette · 10/04/2022 13:34

No 10 isn't the only Tory option, either. Anyone who wants to replace Johnson as leader when the time comes would have a motive to take out Sunak as a potential fellow contender.

ancientgran · 10/04/2022 13:37

@jgw1

*This is the part that amazes me.

All of this was easily foreseen as a risk. The first thing they should have done if they truly wanted Sunak angling for PM would have been to get all of their affairs in order.*

But Keir is just the same. You know he owns a field in Surrey and everything on it.

What is the connection with a field in Surrey and non dom status?
Blossomtoes · 10/04/2022 13:37

It was irony @ancientgran.

That's a good point.

@ancientgran there is a real live one on another thread on here on this topic saying that Keir is the same because he is a Sir.

VladmirsPoutine · 10/04/2022 13:41

But Sunak can and never will be PM. It's just not a realistic prospect for him. It really isn't and it has nothing to do with his millionaire/billionaire status or that of his wife's.

ScrollingLeaves · 10/04/2022 13:41

Chancellors are richer by far than the poorest people whose lives are affected by their decisions. Wasn’t it George Osborne who put lethal austerity measures in place? So though this revelation about his wife gives a terrible impression, remove him and poor people will most like continue to be disproportionately harmed. She is a scape goat for some other man’s ambitions to be PM most likely.

Liz Truss is a man?
PermanentTemporary · 10/04/2022 13:44

News to me that Sunk could never be PM, I thought he was nailed on before this.

He's a Sir because of his work as DPP, can't see the connection with non dom status or tax in any way.

Does he own a field in Surrey? Is that a problem?

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 10/04/2022 13:48

Apparently he's only slightly less unpopular with Conservatives now than Boris Permanent. There's been a steady drop, EOTHO, 12 homes, expensive sliders and mugs etc.

C8H10N4O2 · 10/04/2022 13:49

@midsomermurderess

It is clear that she does pay tax in India, and I think it has been said. As a citizen she's liable to tax on income arising there.
No, Murty's PR people have studiously avoided saying she pays her taxes in India even when asked. They are parroting "she pays all international taxes". Its the "friends" who keep saying she pays the taxes on her Indian income in India rather than using Indian tax avoidance schemes allowing the wealth to route income through off shore tax shelters.
AllOfUsAreDead · 10/04/2022 13:50
@OnlyFoolsnMothers I agree, it’s not that she’s a woman but that she’s the chancellors wife. It’s him under fire more than anything. Taxing the British people into poverty while not applying the same moral courtesy to his own personal dealings. It’s disgusting.
This. He is happily sending millions into poverty while gaining extra money within his family by avoiding tax.

Neither have morals, and anyone agreeing with them doesn't either.

jgw1 · 10/04/2022 13:50

He does and it is a massive problem, because it goes to show he is just like Boris who doesn't own a field because he spaffed all his money chasing women.

SueSaid · 10/04/2022 13:55

'Another line of thought is that Labour have been caught looking ridiculous this week over the ‘Penis Gate’ debacle and inadvertently have handed Boris (Conservatives) a much needed boost on top of elections when it’s imperative that they, at the bare minimum, keep their existing seats next month. It’s rather convenient that a mere 24hrs later there is a leak about a key figure in the Conservatives.'

It is all rather convenient. I mean yes all within rules and he did declare his financial situation to the correct people (I'm not sure they are legally obliged to tell Sky news etc). However Sunak does seem a tad naive to have not considered it would get out and how Labour would use it excitedly because the rest of us are all in poverty what with the cost of living crisis.

As an aside wasn't Bozo impressive in Ukraine? They don't seem to care that his hair's a mess, rather they are incredibly grateful for all the support we've given them. What a leader!

Well he certainly can’t and won’t now. Your ability to detect racism in anything and everything is very tedious. And please don’t come up with some faux innocent protest that you didn’t mean that at all.

He operates in a very different world.

Being realistic:

Highly paid professionals are about one rung down from his kind of inherited wealth. Sunak & Co. have armies of paid professionals to protect that wealth.

What this whole situation looks like to me was Sunak laying the ground work in the UK for an eventual return to the US.

He was developing his political connections here (UK), so that he could then return to the US to play with the very serious money folks (Hedge Fund partners). He was not at that level when he was in the US previously.

That possible future is very damaged now though.

@Clavinova have you had the same memo that says one has to abandon defending NoTax and instead big up Big Dog?
C8H10N4O2 · 10/04/2022 14:05

Does he own a field in Surrey? Is that a problem?

Facing the prospect of a suit wearing, respectable, successful working class leader of the Labour party generated a frenzy of attempted attacks.

One of the dafter attacks was to represent Starmer as landed gentry because he owned a field. Backfired on them when it transpired he had bought a field with his earnings as a lawyer for his unwell mother to use as a donkey sanctuary.

SueSaid · 10/04/2022 14:06

'have you had the same memo that says one has to abandon defending NoTax and instead big up Big Dog?'

I just thought I'd slip it in. We get thread after thread when Bozo displeases some of you yet he is in Kyiv getting widespread international recognition and hardly a murmur on mn. Perhaps he should have taken a selfie like Truss and it'd be more worthy of comment.

Anyway sorry, back to Sunak. I'm not defending no tax btw, neither is he.

C8H10N4O2 · 10/04/2022 14:09

If it’s No.10 then it doesn’t change my opinion that I think it’s out of order to target her like this

Its not targeting if its relevant to his position. As someone with extensive experience in financial services you surely know why spouse and family finances have to be declared for scrutiny, not just the person doing the work.

Every councilor with a tiny ward has to publicly declare not only their own finances but their spouse's as well. Do you really think that the person at the top, responsible for all the rules on taxation and tax policy and tax avoidance should be somehow above the same scrutiny of the humbler public officials?

Blossomtoes · 10/04/2022 14:09

There’s one reason why Johnson’s in Kyiv - no photo opportunity ever willingly missed.
