Deeply concerned about Child Safety in Bristol

From May 5th to May 8th 2022, the Tobacco Factory Theatres in Bristol is having performances of "The Family Sex Show".
This show is aimed at children 5 years old and up.
The performers involved get naked.
The discussion with the children is on sex, sexuality and sexual pleasure.

I cannot imagine brining a 5 year old child to a theatre where people will to to her/him about sex and show their naked bodies to her/him.

Am I the crazy one?

A lovely book rather than a sordid show:

My Body is Me! by Rachel Rooney

@theDudesmummy

Contrary to some PP I don't think that a five year old seeing naked adults is neceasarily a problem. To say so is a red herring and context is all. This agenda-driven show is not about normalising naked bodies. It's about something very very different.
Yes, it seems (as far as we can tell) to be about normalising sexual understanding and vocabulary in very young children. That's very different from non-sexual nudity.

In a world where children are exposed to all kinds of information and pressures it is important to teach them about sex before they get it from porn sites. There's no option to let them just be kids now.

So I'm pro sex education in schools and think it helps if parents start talking about these things as early as they think will work depending on their child's development.

On the other hand I'm deeply suspicious of someone who says "I'm so woke I'd like to show your child my genitals" There's quite enough of that going on right now as it is.

Also you wouldn't be able to explain to the child as it was going on what was happening and answer their questions.

At least this is something chosen by parents so I think it must be their decision. If your child's school invites them in that's another matter.

I asked the box office if they were promoting grooming. He just said ‘ anything else I can help you with’.

This is grooming in plain sight.

unravioling · 08/04/2022 12:36

This is such an appallingly bad idea I keep hoping it is some kind of joke.

To those who keep talking about how important it is for kids to know about sexual pleasure, surely the age appropriate way to do this with 5 year olds is with tickling games? It's fine to tickle someone as long as they are having fun and enjoying it. If they don't like it, or ask you to stop, you must stop. This introduces ideas of pleasure and consent in an age appropriate way. No naked strangers needed.

Pegging is in the glossary of terms. Why would a child NEED to know about this? This is insanity.

AliceRose1971 · 08/04/2022 12:40

Someone needs to alert the Daily Mail. Depressingly the Mail is the only paper that seems to care about this sort of abuse of children.

It's still on the Tobacco Factory website. I don't know about the other venues this is touring at but the Tobacco Factory theatre is an 'interesting' choice. It's a small in the round stage with unreserved seating. So even more concerning.

I shall be emailing bristol safeguarding unit, Karin Smyth and Marvin Rees today.

there's no actual sex on stage if you bother to read the description

This image clearly shows simulated sex, or I guess it's "outercourse" (term from their own glossary).

I assume it's going somewhere else afterwards?

If it's coming to London, I'd definitely be up for a picket.

So wrong.

Oh my dear God. I haven’t read this thread since yesterday lunchtime but it’s since had 450 posts.

I just can’t believe that picture. Who in their right mind wants to simulate sex in front of children and teenagers?

Who??

I've just sent them the links and some screen shots
Slothtoes · 08/04/2022 12:53

What fresh hell is this? There are reputable professional educational organisations that can advise parents on how to talk to their kids if the parents want that. This isn’t one of them.

Showing kids (who I hope will have been taught the PANTS rule) adult strangers’ genitals is completely unnecessary and undetermines safeguarding messages they may have been given. I mean.. stating the obvious here. How is the venue and local authority allowing this?

FrancescaContini · 08/04/2022 12:53

I think ALL the national newspapers should be alerted, especially the Times.

The Guardian article upthread was a joke. Oh what jolly japes Angry

LastTrainEast · 08/04/2022 12:53

I had missed the Glossary, but now I've seen it I'm no longer giving them the benefit of the doubt.

"Parts of this glossary is based on Sex Ed: An Inclusive Guide, Mermaids UK, Purple Rain Collective, and Stonewall."

They'll be exposed to porn anyway so we should just get in there first, apparently Hmm

Sort of if you can't beat the groomers, join them!

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 08/04/2022 12:56

I've sent that link to the sex show to the Daily Mail.

I hope this is brought to light and the police investigate - if they can get off their woke arses, raping women and investigate real crime.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 08/04/2022 12:57

Their website talks about children developing sexually and experiencing sexual pleasure from birth. It also talks of their aims to support children in this sexual development. Naked adults supporting young children in the development of their sexual pleasure! WTF is wrong with those of you who think this is ok?

LastTrainEast · 08/04/2022 12:58

TERF is in there too.

It really, really reminds me of the PIE stuff that recommended parents masturbate their children to introduce them to sexual pleasure. As though having erogenous zones means children are capable of being sexual beings like mini adults.
radiohp · 08/04/2022 13:00

I've sent to the times too

kerryleigh · 08/04/2022 13:01

I cannot believe how many people excuse and agree with this!
It's disgusting! I, the parent, spoke with my children about puberty and sex when it was the right time. I gave permission for them to be thought in school by a nurse, when it was time to learn about puberty, std, pregnancy, sex, etc. I bought them books to read. They were much older than 5 and strangers showing their genitals and mimicking sexual acts were NOT involved!
