£6k to spend on travel in 12 months

leftphilange · 07/04/2022 16:05

I wish I had this kind is money to spend on travel. After the last couple of years I do feel like I have some travelling to catch up on but it will take time to save the funds.

So, living in a dreamworld for a moment. If you had £6k which had to be spent on travel in the next 12 months what would you do?

A) spend it all on one long haul luxury holiday

B) one family short haul and a few city breaks

C) short city breaks only with no beach style holiday

D) all UK breaks various styles and locations with no need for a passport

A

Uk Breaks suck due to the weather
City breaks for me aren’t relaxing, I’m from London
I want to be pampered in guaranteed heat.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 07/04/2022 16:08

B is the closest for us but really a week in Scotland in May and a fortnight SC in Majorca in August has already gone over that budget if we include spending money. We will have a city break in October too. None of it is particularly luxurious but with four is us including a teen and tween it’s easy to spend £6k quickly.

nonevernotever · 07/04/2022 16:09

None of these I think. I'd like to go on a cycling holiday in Switzerland

leftphilange · 07/04/2022 16:09

I think I'd go B

Villa in Ibiza or Croatia
City break to Budapest / Krakow / Lisbon and Berlin if it stretches that far

I'd have one long haul luxury family holiday and then a luxury yoga retreat in Morocco for just me.

We're having a UK break at Easter but the weather looks dreadful so not really looking forward to it. Now I'm dreaming of the Maldives and crying into my mug of tea 😢

D.
Seeing the current chaos at the airports and having to think about potential restrictions in other countries is making me want to stay in the UK, at least for the next year!

sillysmiles · 07/04/2022 16:13

How many people?

@sillysmiles

How many people?
I didn't think about that but until the other poster mentioned they can easily spend that.

Maybe based on two adults would be easiest.

A or b

tulips27 · 07/04/2022 16:15

Well, for just me I think I'd travel for about 6-8 months around various countries.

For a family, I don't know. Not C or D. 3 months summer holidays travelling through East Asia or India? It depends on the ages of the children.

nearlyspringyay · 07/04/2022 16:15

For a family, say 2 adults, 2 kids? 6k wont go far.

We've got two weeks in ibiza for 5.8, it's not what I would class as a luxury family holiday.

We've just come come back from a 3 night UK break, hotel was £360, meals out over £100 inc drinks, activities havent added up but ££ as the weather was shit.

Looking for a caravan in the UK for May half term, over £1k just on accomodation.

AnotherEmma · 07/04/2022 16:21

Would £6k pay for a long haul luxury holiday? Probably for a couple but not a family.

I have young kids so my dream holiday is a luxury holiday with childcare, preferably a nanny to deal with the kids at least 50% of the time Grin

araiwa · 07/04/2022 16:23

E- backpacking for 6 months

theprincessofliechtenstein · 07/04/2022 16:51

Overseas breaks in a hotel with a balcony, an ensuite and room service.
Iceland and Prague for a weekend each, a week in Japan, and a weekend in Paris if there's any left over.

Strictly in dreamland of course.

housemaus · 07/04/2022 17:03

DH & I managed nearly a month in SE Asia off £4k, so I'd do that again to some places we didn't get to go to because we'd love to go back.

And I'd spend the remaining £2k on two (or even three) city breaks in nice but cheap European cities - we could definitely get two excellent weekends away in fancy hotels for that in the right places and we don't do much other than walk around and go to museums when we're there, no fine dining or anything.

2bazookas · 07/04/2022 17:12

None.

No interest in spending weeks lying on a beach/ getting massaged in luxury spa hotel/group tours/ group activities.

I'd spend it on longhaul independent travel to interesting places I want to explore.

Still on my bucket list, are Costa Rica and Japan.

macshoto · 07/04/2022 17:15

Safari would be my choice - but £6k is probably towards the bottom end of what you need to get a good experience.

Chishnfips · 07/04/2022 17:17

Backpack in SE Asia for 6 months.

SoManyTshirts · 07/04/2022 17:17

D. Exploring interesting places in the UK that I’ve never been to, with minimum hassle and no language barriers.

kizzywizz · 07/04/2022 17:23

Cruising for me.

gogohm · 07/04/2022 17:35

Ship the motorbike to the USA and go travelling (assuming work magically doesn't mind or we can retire in this imaginary scenario!)

gogohm · 07/04/2022 17:36

@kizzywizz already got that on the cards Grin. The joys of kids being adults

Georgyporky · 07/04/2022 17:45

2 people won't go very far long-haul for £6k.
It cost that to go to Egypt for 2 weeks last month !

ImplementingTheDennisSystem · 07/04/2022 17:48

If I HAD to spend it, we'd either ho to Japan, or do a USA driving holiday
