.....to wash soiled dog bedding in washing machine?

Puppy did a poo in her cage last night, I cleaned and rinsed it off then washed on a hot wash. DH lost his shit and says we need a new washing machine. I have done another cycle with disinfectant and figure that is fine. Have always washed dog beds in there.
He says we have vastly different levels of hygiene....

Well next time OP remember to send him down to the local stream with a bar of soap and a washboard.

EleanorDeCleaner · 07/04/2022 16:54

I once picked up a puppy turd in the half dark thinking it was a discarded sock.

I could've cut my hand off, but I just, you know, wiped it and washed it. In the sink. Many, many times.

@Tlollj

Well I don’t know if shit is shit whoever shit it is. ( there’s a sentence to be going in with) I’ve changed hundreds of shitty nappies in my time, but I wouldn’t wipe a dog’s arse.
This entire comment cheered me right up! Grin
SpringsSprung · 07/04/2022 16:55

@tolerable

i wouldnt wash poo or vomit..man woman child or animal.
Please don't have kids! 😆
Arianya · 07/04/2022 16:57

He’s got OCD. Does he behave ridiculously about other issues related to cleaning and hygiene? Everyone else just washes reusable nappies, period pants, blankets the dog has puked on, hankies full of snot, trousers the toddler has peed on, etc. That’s what washing machines are for.

lockdownlady871 · 07/04/2022 17:00

Thanks all, to clarify puppy is 8mths and sleeps with her mum. One off poo (probably ate something gross). Just finishing disinfecting machine then will crack on! Ps I washed washable nappies too and that was fine, it's just dog poo he objects to. I have done this lots of times before just not been noticed!

Surely the whole point of washing is to make it clean? Biological washing products dissolve the nasties! Must have needed a new WM several times as have always washed my dogs beds /coats and so on .Quite mad!

Horst · 07/04/2022 17:06

I mean I’m with the dh here. Dog poo bed would not be going in the washer. I’d rather don some gloves and get out the pressure washer or buy a new bed.

Hrpuffnstuff1 · 07/04/2022 17:07

Our elderly dog leaks urine she wears a nappy but overnight she pulls it off. The leakage contaminates the bedding.
We wash the bedding in the washer every day.
Your DH is being unreasonable.

oatlattetogo · 07/04/2022 17:14

@Tlollj

While I think he’s over reacting I think children’s poo is different from dog’s. Not sure why tbh. But where else could you wash it?
Baby poo is completely different, but once they start eating proper food I would argue it’s worse!

I would rather wipe a child’s bum than a dog’s though as at least children aren’t hairy Grin

1forAll74 · 07/04/2022 17:17

i would get the poo off, and wash it in the machine, and only for a short time, not one hour ha ha and wouldn't be slinging disinfectant around either. Does you husband have some ocd problems.

Herja · 07/04/2022 17:19

@Blossomtoes

Your cat shat in your slippers *@Herja*? What the hell did you do to it for it to inflict such a horrible punishment?
Cruel owner that I am, I swapped his favourite food for the one he also likes most of the time (but absolutely not that weekend) that was on offer... He is very fussy, but unpredictably fussy and fond of awful punishments for my transgressions!

He's done it more than once. My slippers no longer live in the kitchen.

ABitBesottedWithMyDog · 07/04/2022 17:24

Are you taking the puppy out every couple of hours through the night? I only ask because dogs don't naturally want to poo where they sleep, but I know someone who accidentally trained their dog to shit in their crate... best avoided.

Blossomtoes · 07/04/2022 17:24

Ah yes, that would do it. Heinous indeed.

Using a pressure washer is surely more disgusting… it’s not washing anything, sure it will be visibly gone but the bacteria will still be there. A long wash at above 60 with disinfectant is going to actually clean it.

I’m concerned people don’t know how washing machines work.

Horst · 07/04/2022 17:47

Pressure washer and kennel disinfectant gloves and a sponge would certainly make it clean. Or as I said toss it out.

Clean isn’t the same as disinfected. Why on earth would you throw something away when you could clean it? No wonder the planet’s fucked.
Nelliephant1 · 07/04/2022 17:52

He needs to give his head a wobble. It's a washing machine, the clue is in the name 😂

stuntbubbles · 07/04/2022 18:25

It’s fine – just put the washing machine in a bigger washing machine on a hot wash.

(I’m actually sort of with DH on this because I also think child poo is different from dog poo, but I am also biased against dogs so not your test audience for this quandary.)

Goldengoosey · 07/04/2022 18:25

Just as well he isn’t married to the person that shat all over the house yesterday. He would have to buy a new house!

Riverlee · 07/04/2022 18:42

I’m in the ‘where else would you wash it?’ Camp.

Next time it happens, passed soiled stuff to dh to sort out.

I thought that as well!
FateHasRedesignedMost · 07/04/2022 19:24

Won’t it leave particles of dog poo in the washing machine?

Sorry but I find it disgusting too.

Why didn’t you hand-wash it outside or soak it in disinfectant first (like you do with re-usable nappies)?

I’d at least empty the filter now, clean the rubber seal and run on a boil cycle with washing machine cleaner, before you put your clothes in it!
