Have just watched this, obviously we all know what he did and the absolutely reprehensible individual he was.

But watching the documentary and all the clips they played, even if he hadn’t committed all those hideous acts, he was a really creepy repulsive bloke. So why did the nation love him so much?

I’m not talking royals and other celebs etc, but ordinary people. The people who filed past his coffin after his death, and mourned his passing, sent in hundreds of tributes etc. Why? He was just so repulsive. Or is it just me?

^He could just say he was a woman and that would be that. Access all areas.”^

Yes, the wolf in sheepskin clothing.

Missed this upthread but what a terrible thing to say. Trans people aren’t more likely to abuse nor

No-one said trans people are more likely to abuse however it has opened the doors to abusers giving them opportunity and a disguise.
C'mon how many men have been caught identifying as a woman for access to women safe spaces, too many.

EmeraldShamrock1 · 12/04/2022 10:48

Interesting that patients in Broadmoor invited him to join their club (well according to JS)
Unfortunately with grooming the person being groomed feels special especially if they're vulnerable and don't have affection from loved ones.

An old friend suffered horrendous guilt as she enjoyed her abuser ATT, she didn't enjoy the act but the extra attention he gave her, leaving her with horrible survivors guilt, she was 10 he was 30, total manipulation on her emotions.

She never found peace and took her life.

Terry Wogan would not let him anywhere near Children In Need.

GrandmasNightgown · 12/04/2022 12:08

Seems like everyone gets attributed for his non-involvement in CIN!

But he was a mate of Wogan. Pix of them together.

Yet they failed to report their thoughts.
Probably no point as judging by the police whistle-blower accounts they were aware and some actively sexually abusing DC or turning a blind eye to it.

It would be hard NOT to have been photographed with him tbh, slimy little worm made sure of that.

How could the journalist who claimed to be the Jimmy Savile correspondant for the Yorkshire Eving Post, and who wrote his biography, not know?

There were plenty of rumours from over the years, staff at hospitals, institutions, events etc who knew he was a terrible person, how could a journalist, whose job ut is to investigate, miss all this ?

Either she is a terrible journalist who couldn't find any of this out, or a good journalist who could / did find this out and chose not to report it, instead taking the safer option if income with the biography.

I wonder which it is - enough nursing staff, hospital staff, people in media, journalism, etc knew - how could you not uncover any of this?

BurgerKingAddict · 16/04/2022 06:48

I think she liked him and still liked him. She spoke of him so affectionately.
Yuk.

*still likes

I remember back in 2003 as a student nurse talking to other student nurses and it was widely known that none of them trusted JS who would apparently turn up unannounced to children's wards and expect free reign. He made the nurses feel very uncomfortable and they would not allow him unsupervised anywhere.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 16/04/2022 09:14

remember the tweenies did a special TOTP with the man dressing up as JS.
it was pulled later.
i dont remember particularly watching Jim''ll Fix It,
my dsis used to call him Ol Big ead, for his OBE.

i met him and was very disappointed in him, it was a charity walk with physically handicapped children and he was the person to meet at the end of the walk, I did Not Like him after that.

it is so awful thinking about so many people having their suspicions, and the fact that he said so much, on the netflix programme, about his bad behaviour and making up for it with charity works,
he chose his victims carefully Sad

MrsLargeEmbodied · 16/04/2022 09:16

pretty shocking that the BBC are allowed to make this programme about him with Steve Coogan - how dare they

I find it very odd and somewhat distasteful too that this is going ahead, feels like it’s almost glorifying him. He should be left to rot in obscurity.
MrsLargeEmbodied · 16/04/2022 09:25

true
but the point that irks me is that the BBC were told about suspicions about JS and refused to broadcast last minute
the journalists had to take the story to ITV

I thought this too.

It came across as she still likes him and she didn't quite believe all the evidence. As you say she either knew or didn't do a great job as a journalist who had unrestricted access to him.

I could understand being taken in by him when he was alive but all the information that's come out since he died cannot be dismissed.
