Really really nasty thread. As someone with a husband who has lost both of his parents young, I would much rather have a mother in law in my life than my poor husband dealing with the life long trauma of losing his parents as a child.

The issue with this is that you don't have the opportunity to check how he treats his mother - I think there is lot in the saying "Look at how he treats his mother, that is how he will treat you", I think this becomes true over the years to a good heads up for anyone thinking about commitment.
