I'm currently ill with pneumonia and a kidney infection, I'm trying to distract myself with movies, does anyone have any recommendations?

Hi Op,
Hope you feel better soon Flowers
If you like comedy films, what's about these:-
The Birdcage
The Bucket List
Good morning Vietnam
The Hatton garden job
The man who sued god
Saving Grace
Sneakers
St Elmo's fire
The breakfast club
Turner & Hooch
Red 1 & 2
To Wong Foo, thanks for everything Julie Newmar.

Also, for those who mentioned All The President's Men don't forget The Post with Meryl Street and Tom Hanks. It pre dates All the President's Men and can be watched back to back. If you've already done that (I have many times) and want to know more, there is a film starring Liam Neeson called Mark Felt, the man who brought down the White House - he's deep throat.

I have a weird connection with the whole Watergate scandal because I was born on the day of the break-in and my dad mentioned it on my birthday every year and was really interested in American politics/history, which he passed on to me.

Not very good with WW2 films but more up to date, I would recommend

Eye in the sky
13 hours - the secret soldiers of Benghazi
Zero dark thirty
Black hawk down

My son got me to watch inglorious basterds recently and I really enjoyed it - Tarantino, so expect violence.

My absolute favourite though is The Truman Show.

MushroomQueen · 05/04/2022 14:59

Oh and Kill bill vol 1 then 2, for violence and redemption

MushroomQueen · 05/04/2022 15:02

I watched Empire of the sun the other day I'd never seen 4, it was v good, Christian Bale as a kid was excellent

LolaStrange · 05/04/2022 15:02

Jake Gyllenhaaal has been in plenty of movies OP Wink

BelleNoir · 05/04/2022 15:03

Pulp fiction

LittleDidSheKnow · 05/04/2022 15:15

@MushroomQueen Empire of the Sun is fantastic and Christian Bale is excellent whatever age he is!

I always like:

Forrest Gump
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Schindler's List...
and Dodgeball and 21 Jump Street are both really funny.

And for something completely different, but mesmerising:
Koyaanisqatsi

ShowOfHands · 05/04/2022 15:26

Brokeback Mountain. I re-watched it last night and howled. It's so beautiful.

I've never seen princess bride Blush I will definitely be watching it.

Thank you again all, this is having a huge mental effect on me, so hopefully some of these will take my mind off it and give me a smile.

I've never heard of some of these, so I've added them to my list to watch. They are all really good suggestions. I'm quite good with genre's, so it will be nice to have a mixture.

Thank you again, even just replying has felt like im speaking to someone, didn't realise it would have that effect if you know what I mean Thanks

Shoah, get the Masters of Cinema release with the follow-up movies. It's basically eyewitness accounts of the holocaust told from people involved in different ways, not "light entertainment" but essential viewing.

Verv · 05/04/2022 15:48

Spy (Melissa McCarthy)
Train to Busan (Korean zombies)

SalsaLove · 05/04/2022 15:52

What’s the one with Kaiser Soze?

OneTC · 05/04/2022 15:55

Kaiser Soze

Usual suspects

chibsortig · 05/04/2022 15:56

Big fish.

Mia184 · 05/04/2022 15:57

A rather weird combination:

We‘re no angels (the one with Humphrey Bogart)
Dirty Dancing
The Shining

MondeoFan · 05/04/2022 15:58

Forrest Gump - gives me all the feels

MondeoFan · 05/04/2022 16:00

@OneTC I've never seen it. Have I missed out?

OneTC · 05/04/2022 16:10

Read the book and watch the movie

They're silly and funny but both are absolutely brilliant

This sounds really good, I'll see if I can find it. Thank you.
