To ask for help cancelling Thomas Cook holiday that starts at 6am tomorrow!!!

Posting shamelessly on here for traffic.
We're due to fly to Tenerife tomorrow at 7am. My son has developed a cough today and now has a temp of 38.9. CV is rife round here at the moment. We can't sign the passenger locator forms truthfully as he has a fever and is ill. And we shouldn't travel anyway.

Thomas Cook "live chat" isn't taking enquiries right now. I've tried one number, not accepting calls, refers you to the live chat.
My insurance won't pay out if the company will give a voucher. Fine, we're happy to rearrange.
But at the moment we are at risk of just not turning up tomorrow. Which im worries will count against is and give them a reason for not giving us our money back.

Flights are booked through Thomas Cook but are with Ryanair. Should I just cancel them (assuming I can).

What the F* do I do???

Can’t believe people are telling you to drag a sick child onto a plane. Insane. Apart from anything else… if he gets more sick and needs medical attention at the destination you could not expect your insurer to cough up, pardon the pun. They will ask when the symptoms started…

Blueskybird · 05/04/2022 21:35

It’s madness to travel what if, (and I’m sure it won’t) gets a whole lot worse? You will be in a foreign country with a possible language barrier trying to get hospital help which you may have to pay for. If you knowingly travelled whilst already ill your insurance may be void.
Other passengers certainly won’t thank you for travelling either!
It’s rubbish timing and really rough luck can’t imagine how fed up you must feel but you can always rebook

Blueskybird · 05/04/2022 21:37

Just thinking has Thomas Cook got an App? You can contact someone on there?

PumpkinPiloter · 05/04/2022 22:04

I also have a holiday coming up with Thomas Cook and I am sure they had some kind of Covid cancellation policy in place. If it does turn out to be Covid this might help.

pinkpirlie · 05/04/2022 23:57

My gosh, I feel for you.
Generally re travel insurance you are covered if someone in your party is too poorly to travel, it doesn't have to only be covid preventing you.

I don't know how the Thomas Cook element of the booking factors into it and whether that changes anything, but I had RyanAir flights booked (albeit directly with RA) which I couldn't take due to having covid a few weeks ago. RyanAir don't actually allow you to cancel flights. You have to just not catch them, and then they provide a no show letter for your insurance.

Re covid - I was poorly 20 days, only testing positive for the last 10 of those. When my partner had it he was negative on every lateral flow he took, but was positive on a PCR.

All my insurance said I needed was to put input a positive lateral flow on the NHS app and that was sufficient evidence. I'm insured through my Nationwide Flex Plus account - they are very good.

I would much rather be in a hospital in Tenerife than here!! Our health service and hospitals are much worse although I wouldn't take a four hour flight when sick to get to one.

Mummystevo · 06/04/2022 08:18

I’ve heard so many bad things about them from a group on fb I’d never fly with them

Badbadbunny · 06/04/2022 08:41

@THisbackwithavengeance

I personally wouldn't cancel a holiday if he has not tested positive.
Wow!
Badbadbunny · 06/04/2022 08:43

@StorminaBcup

Why didn't you all get flu jabs?

I’ve had this virus too (not covid!) and I did have a flu jab. They’re not 100% effective, they’re not even 50% half of the time!

Evidence?
TopSec · 06/04/2022 12:33

Please do not just "not turn up" - they will put you down as a "no show" and any chance you did have of claiming back the holiday money will disappear as they will claim it is your fault rather than having anything to do with illness.

The holiday was due to start yesterday morning

@Looneytune253

Why* didn't you all get flu jabs? * Not everyone is entitled to a flu jab routinely especially young and healthy people. Also even if you have had the jab it doesn't always mean you won't catch it, just like the Covid jabs
Everyone can have a flu jab, if you can't get one for free they're £8 at most places. Worth it in my opinion.

How is your son now op?..any joy with insurance/travel agents?

TabithaTittlemouse · 08/04/2022 08:41

No advice but wanted to say well done for being so sensible and putting your son first! It looks like some on here would have dragged a sick child abroad and not thought about the child or anyone else.
Hope he feels better soon.
