To ask for help cancelling Thomas Cook holiday that starts at 6am tomorrow!!!

Posting shamelessly on here for traffic.
We're due to fly to Tenerife tomorrow at 7am. My son has developed a cough today and now has a temp of 38.9. CV is rife round here at the moment. We can't sign the passenger locator forms truthfully as he has a fever and is ill. And we shouldn't travel anyway.

Thomas Cook "live chat" isn't taking enquiries right now. I've tried one number, not accepting calls, refers you to the live chat.
My insurance won't pay out if the company will give a voucher. Fine, we're happy to rearrange.
But at the moment we are at risk of just not turning up tomorrow. Which im worries will count against is and give them a reason for not giving us our money back.

Flights are booked through Thomas Cook but are with Ryanair. Should I just cancel them (assuming I can).

What the F* do I do???

@Muchtoomuchtodo

Have you tried a direct message on Twitter? I’ve been pleasantly surprised how fast some companies have responded in there and how late they monitor the accounts.

Good luck. It sounds like what our Ds2 has got atm and it’s pretty miserable.

Thanks. DH is doing it now.

I wouldn't take him on a flight.

Quite apart from being really anti social for others, I'd be worried that if he gets worse not better i would want to be at home and near own GP - not in Tenerife.

If you go, you will risk ending up sat in a hotel room in semi dark (light hit this eyes)with a very unwell child (not great, I've been there).

What utterly shite timing though, this bloody virus just keeps on giving doesn't it? 😥Thanks

CorsicaDreaming · 04/04/2022 21:38

Sorry that should say "light really hurt his eyes"

🙄

NandorTheRelentlessCleaner · 04/04/2022 21:40

You are making the right decision

Try calling Thomas cook sales team, a way through to a real human is often through sales

Also send an e-mail

Hope your insurance policy covers Covid/covid symptoms

Sorry about your holiday Sad

Ratatoo · 04/04/2022 21:48

I hope you get through in time, they are a bit funny about last minute cancellations and you don't want to be put down as a no show.

CheshireChat · 04/04/2022 22:13

Even if it's not covid, you won't want to be flying if it can affect his ears.

Mulhollandmagoo · 04/04/2022 22:14

@TimeSlipMushroom

Please don't take an ill person on a flight. Awful the the ill person and so incredibly selfish also
The OP has said multiple times, she isn't taking her son on a flight, she is asking how to cancel because he's ill
ChateauMargaux · 04/04/2022 22:25

Sorry you are in this totally rubbish situation. I hope your son feels better soon and you manage to get the insurance / cancellation situation sorted.

JustSaying101 · 04/04/2022 22:43

You're doing the right thing OP, potentially a flight could exacerbate the cold, turn into ear infection, etc. And another vote for twitter here, send a DM, a response may come quicker. Contact your insurance provider and the airline directly. Hope your little one feels better soon.

bellamountain · 04/04/2022 22:54

Sorry to hear this OP, hope you get it sorted and your DS feels better soon.

Monkeytapper · 05/04/2022 04:44

Did you get sorted OP?

Can you pay for a private online gp consultation?

Fleur405 · 05/04/2022 05:25

Oh dear. I think all you can do is try your best to contact them and keep a log of what you have done - ie keep a note of the time of calls / number of calls, screenshots of messages etc so that if you are unable to cancel you have a timeline that will help with insurance claim/any dispute with
Travel company.

CasparBloomberg · 05/04/2022 05:32

I appreciate this may be unpleasant for your child, but recording him whilst ill (shivering) and showing taking his temperature and having a fever, may help prove you couldn’t take the flight if it gets to them refusing your claim. It also gives proof to gp for him to write the letter. A fever can go as quickly as it starts.

Sweepingeyelashes · 05/04/2022 06:00

Can you take some photographs of him and the thermometer to show that he really is sick if you later need evidence.

sashh · 05/04/2022 06:12

Sorry OP I can't offer advice re insurance BUT how long are you supposed to go for? Could you arrange a flight in a couple of days?

How many are in the family? Could one parent go and the other stay with the poorly child?

sashh · 05/04/2022 06:15

Oops I should have checked the date.

Mummyoflittledragon · 05/04/2022 06:29

I also think a private online Gp could be your best bet. It’s probably covid. It’s rife unfortunately.

Ilostit · 05/04/2022 07:25

OP hope you get sorted. Just to say my DC had something similar. Raging temperature 39.9 and really poorly for 2-3 days. They’d had covid in Jan this year so wasn’t that and tested negative but genuinely they felt 100% worse with this than they did with Covid. Other viruses do exist and I absolutely would not have have travelled with them.

User0610134049 · 05/04/2022 07:27

Pre covid what would you have done?

knittingaddict · 05/04/2022 07:34

@THisbackwithavengeance

I personally wouldn't cancel a holiday if he has not tested positive.
Wouldn't you?

My daughter's partner was ill and tested positive. My daughter was ill and tested negative for days until she didn't and got her positive result. I was ill, suspected covid and didn't test positive until 2 days in.

Northernsoullover · 05/04/2022 07:35

@User0610134049

Pre covid what would you have done?
I'd imagine she'd try and claim on the insurance? Contact the holiday company?

My primary aged grandchildren had covid twice within a couple of months. It's entirely possible to have covid in January and then again a few weeks/months later.
Bonnieonthelam · 05/04/2022 07:38

@ForeverSingle881

I wouldn’t cancel if he’s testing negative, he’ll be fine in another day or two. Give him some cold medicine and get on the flight.
And fuck the people Sitting near him if he does have covid Hmm

Not everyone tests positive straight away.

Fucks sake. Where is your sense of decency. This OP is doing the right thing for her son and others.
