To ask for help cancelling Thomas Cook holiday that starts at 6am tomorrow!!!

Posting shamelessly on here for traffic.
We're due to fly to Tenerife tomorrow at 7am. My son has developed a cough today and now has a temp of 38.9. CV is rife round here at the moment. We can't sign the passenger locator forms truthfully as he has a fever and is ill. And we shouldn't travel anyway.

Thomas Cook "live chat" isn't taking enquiries right now. I've tried one number, not accepting calls, refers you to the live chat.
My insurance won't pay out if the company will give a voucher. Fine, we're happy to rearrange.
But at the moment we are at risk of just not turning up tomorrow. Which im worries will count against is and give them a reason for not giving us our money back.

Flights are booked through Thomas Cook but are with Ryanair. Should I just cancel them (assuming I can).

What the F* do I do???

@THisbackwithavengeance

I personally wouldn't cancel a holiday if he has not tested positive.
I personally wouldn’t go on a holiday if it involved lying on the passenger locator form / other entry paperwork

My nightmare is to be stuck in a foreign hospital. Repatriations are awful
MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 05/04/2022 17:43

@ForeverSingle881

I wouldn’t cancel if he’s testing negative, he’ll be fine in another day or two. Give him some cold medicine and get on the flight.
And people wonder why one in thirteen people currently have covid 🙄
lanthanum · 05/04/2022 17:44

I'm so glad the OP has more sense than those saying just go anyway.

Quite apart from the risk of giving it to strangers, there's a fair chance he'd give it to another member of the family, and then you'd risk not being allowed to fly home!

welshweasel · 05/04/2022 19:16

My husband got appendicitis the morning we were meant to be going on holiday, so we were no shows. There was no issue with the insurance - we just had to send a doctors letter and a letter from the company saying that they wouldn’t refund us. We got all our money back within a few days and booked a holiday for a week later!

Email the holiday company, explaining you have tried to call them and asking them to let you know if you are entitled to any refund/voucher and if not can they give you a letter saying this.

Ring the GP tomorrow and explain the situation, you will have to pay a fee but they should be able to do you a standard letter.

NoddyMcdoddy · 05/04/2022 19:16

@Kuachui

personally i would give some paracetamol and go if he wasnt positive on covid tests.
And look like a right tit when the airline doesn’t allow your feverish and coughing sick child board the plane ? Airlines can refuse to carry people displaying obvious signs of being unwell way before covid ever showed up.
Curly1girl · 05/04/2022 19:17

Op I have had recent experience of this. Due to fly to Cyprus, I started to feel unwell the night before, managed to get to the airport but collapsed at check-in, Paramedic advised I had an infection. Had to abandon holiday, return home & get antibiotics. Tui were very good but had to wait until after the holiday would be over & then provide a letter to confirm we didn't go on holiday. Which together with form from my doctor & all the invoices is now with insurance. Good luck & hope he is ok soon. You made the right decision.

ssd · 05/04/2022 19:22

What a shame for you all, rotten timing Sad

Hope ds feels better soon and well done you for doing the right thing.

Christmas1988 · 05/04/2022 19:29

Www.push doctor.co.uk

This company writes sick notes over video call and emails them to you, they are NHS trained doctors.

oakleaffy · 05/04/2022 19:34

@redbluepinkyellow
Your son definitely doesn't sound well enough to travel, IF you were in your own camper van, it would be very different, but being in a public space like a plane, it will be horrible for him and the other pax.

People get very ''Glare~y'' at coughing children anyway.

Hope he gets better soon.
Hope you can rearrange without financial loss.

Lemonlady22 · 05/04/2022 19:39

Stupid people saying to just go. Imagine him being really unwell while you are away and not being able to get home! Better to cancel and rearrange. Hope it gets sorted for you

Lovely13 · 05/04/2022 20:11

Don’t go! Get a gp letter tomorrow, for insurance, if your practice allows. Child won’t want to be away, never mind covid, or not.

I cannot believe some of tge answers here.

OP there is both flu and a very odd virus circulating at the mo.

My son caught flu at work nearly 2 weeks ago. He's a fit and healthy 19yo and has spent most of the 2 weeks in bed. I'm in my 4th day of it.

Neither of us can keep food in, feel dreadful and the first 2 days we both agree it felt like we were dying - pain in every cell. I would not take a poorly child on holiday. Email, send messages via facebook/twitter. Def go with talking to the holiday provider but it won't harm to let Ryanair know you can't fly.

Book a replacement holiday later in the year when it's a bit warmer and these viruses should have buggered off for a few months x

BitOutOfPractice · 05/04/2022 20:13

How did you get on op? Hope you got sorted and DS is better soon

Why didn't you all get flu jabs?
PollyIndia · 05/04/2022 20:22

Pretty sure I read your post on my local fb group.
So sorry for you, really hope you manage to get some cash back.

Choopi · 05/04/2022 20:28

I can't believe the amount of people that would drag a feverish child on a plane. Are you even thinking about the child?

I've no idea how to solve your problem op but I hope you figure it out.

fiftiesmum · 05/04/2022 20:30

I wonder if suggestions on here would be any different if he felt unwell the day before you were due to fly home.

StorminaBcup · 05/04/2022 20:42

You can get a private GP appointment online, who will write a letter to confirm your son isn’t fit to fly after a short tele-appointment. You can then use this to claim on the insurance. We had to do this when my son had chickenpox shortly before we were due to fly. It costs us around £130.

Good luck OP and I hope your son is feeling better soon.

StorminaBcup · 05/04/2022 20:44

Why didn't you all get flu jabs?

I’ve had this virus too (not covid!) and I did have a flu jab. They’re not 100% effective, they’re not even 50% half of the time!

Looneytune253 · 05/04/2022 20:47

Why* didn't you all get flu jabs?
*
Not everyone is entitled to a flu jab routinely especially young and healthy people. Also even if you have had the jab it doesn't always mean you won't catch it, just like the Covid jabs

Bshweta · 05/04/2022 21:10

If he is that sick,CV or not he is better of resting at home.

Regarding your original question,In case you can't get through to any body to lodge your request, I would mail the company, both TC and the insurance with details of you trying to inform them in advance . Get the GPs note and I do hope it works for you.

Hope the little one feels better soon.
