If you're not naturally sporty but found something you love...WHAT IS IT?!

Yes I'm posting shamelessly for traffic!

I'm hoping for some inspiration please MN.

I was always slim-ish before my son was born but I really just maintained this through eating well rather than any form of exercise.

I've never liked exercise, never enjoyed sports at all. I've tried gyms, I've managed to stick with them for months at a time but never got that "omg I'm totally addicted, love being here" feeling, it was an utter chore every time and I hated it that much that it always eventually fizzled out.

Anyway, since my son a year ago, eating well is not going great. I don't eat appallingly but meals tend to be faster / not as healthy / quick grab something whilst he's quiet style and I'm finding myself really unhappy with my body.

I want to start doing something to get into shape but what?!

My husband has suggested running but it's never ever appealed to me, I really can't imagine liking it. I am quite well... endowed in the ahem chest area... And whenever I've tried anything like the treadmill or a jog I've felt uncomfortable for the entire time. DH just seems to think I've not been trying good enough sports bras and perhaps a decent one could make it bearable?

Anyway... I'm open to trying almost anything..

If you're not naturally sporty but have really gotten "into" something, what is it?! The cheaper the better!

Tabletennis has transformed my life/health/fitness. I now play in regional league & even national tournaments

yoshiblue · 03/04/2022 22:13

I've just started tennis and really enjoy it. It's at a local club, non fancy and the lessons are very reasonable. £7 per hour for non members.

PenCreed · 03/04/2022 22:14

Kickboxing. I am not sporty, but have been going for ten years and I love it.

HeadacheEarthquake · 03/04/2022 22:14

Les Mills 100%

ExerciseWoes · 03/04/2022 22:14

I must admit the thought of sticking my headphones in and listening to an audiobook whilst running does sounds good (the aloneness and book moreso than the running bit mind 😂). I guess I just can't picture me getting really into it, it's so not "me" if that makes any sense at all! And I feel like I'd make it 10 seconds before keeling over.

But it's free so I guess I should give it a whirl.

I do not enjoy exercise, but in body pump and Les mills Core I have found exercise I don’t hate. I throw in 20 mins n the cross trainer a few times a week for cardio (watching something on my iPad) and I have something I can tolerate.

Discipline is key for me, not motivation. For me it’s not a choice - I get up and do it 3 or 4 times a week because I have to. It’s like taking the garbage out - I don’t enjoy it, I just have to do it.

nicesausages · 03/04/2022 22:17

I like anything that is aerobic and to music. I need a class of some sort to keep me motivated, so do any sort of of jumping around to music in a class - step, les mills, barre Pilates, etc. Lots of different classes to try out!

RAOK · 03/04/2022 22:19

Les Mills Bodypump classes here too!

Bornsloppy · 03/04/2022 22:19

I do a spin class a couple of times a week which I love. Banging playlist and mercifully short.

I go to Pilates, i don't love it but it's good for me post partum and it's a nice group of women at the class.

romany4 · 03/04/2022 22:20

Pilates, yoga and my exercise bike

Housetreecar · 03/04/2022 22:21

Reformer Pilates has totally transformed my body and got rid of all my aches and pains

I really need to get this kind of willpower! I love it. I wish I had it.

For me I seem to get more into things the quicker I can see them working if that makes sense?

I lost a tonne of weight a few years ago through getting really into healthy eating. I hated it at first but as soon as it started working and people were commenting I liked it more and more and I found it easier to keep up with. I need to hit that point before I give up 😂

Since my son and being back to square one weight wise, I've lost that mojo for dieting.

Swimming! That and walking are the only form of exercise I actually enjoy. I burn around 500 calories during a 40 min swim, it makes me feel great!

ExerciseWoes · 03/04/2022 22:23

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm reading them all. There's a few things I'm going to see if we have in my area.

Annoyingly I live away from most of my friends otherwise I'd love to do something with one of them. I'm quite a shy person so I find things like going to a new group quite nerve wracking.

Weightlifting 😊

ExerciseWoes · 03/04/2022 22:26

One of my friends LIVES for spin classes. Absolutely adores them. I feel like I'd be absolutely embarrassing at one. I don't think I could do it for longer than 10 seconds 😂 is it quite high pressure or are there varying abilities?

I agree with others who recommend Les Mills group classes - Body Pump is great and Body Combat is huge fun. Did you play any team sports at school? What about Back to Netball or Back to Hockey? I went to the netball one a few years ago and now play it 2/3 times a week. I LOVE it!

ExerciseWoes · 03/04/2022 22:27

Sorry should have tagged @Bornsloppy in my last post.

Where abouts are you OP? My PT does a "ladies that lift" session twice a week and it's specifically for people who want to learn about how to lift properly/posture etc. but they don't have the time/budget to accommodate having a PT!

There might be other, similar, things in your area. I'm at PureGym. I think a few chains have similar!

upanddownandupanddown · 03/04/2022 22:27

CrossFit! Mixture of weights, cardio, gymnastics (yes really), functional fitness. I run as well, but love CrossFit. If you can find a good CrossFit box then give it a go. Different every time.

I played the ones I was forced to i.e. in pe lessons. When I couldn't get out of it anyway!

But no I never joined teams or anything. Personally team sports has never appealed to me. I don't like the thought of a team relying on me not being crap ha!

Rowing - I learned at my local club in my early 60s and absolutely love it.

Electricmouse · 03/04/2022 22:29

Adult gymnastics classes. A rarity but fun and a great workout if you can find one.

Love seeing new things my body can do.

whippetwoman · 03/04/2022 22:29

I took up Taekwondo in my 40's as my eldest wanted to do it. I got my black belt just before my 50th birthday. I didn't ever think I could do anything like a martial art but it turns out I can. I'm not brilliant at it, or a natural, but I keep going. It's fun and sociable too and I am not the oldest by a long stretch, My youngest does it now too. Something different to think about!

FloodTheBathroom · 03/04/2022 22:29

Swimming and barre.
