Magazines. Many many magazines 🤦‍♀️
Mags for me too. I stopped when I realised I bought the same copy of a magazine I already had.

Petrol/Diesel to drive a few miles I could easily walk, have a super expensive car too which drinks fuel...

Candles, I used to light one every evening

Shoes, I have so many pairs I've literally never worn it's quite embarrassing, I recently donated some to charity to clear my wardrobe.

Highlights. I'm going cold turkey and letting the blonde grow out whilst the grey takes over.

Daily lunch sandwiches/salads from deli.

Washing dishes 2/3 times a day.

Having a shower because I just felt like it.

Dior lipstick.

Putting heating on to take the chill off

Having curated meals instead of a fridge/cupboard pot luck

When younger - booze. So much booze all the time on nights out. What an absolute waste of cash. Now - probably highlights but yet I haven’t stopped. They make my hair look thicker and nicer. Shall I stop?! I have debated it to save money

I'm a total magazine addict too, but a Readly subscription has saved me from the debtors' prison
NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 04/04/2022 19:45

Expensive London hotels when I’d decide that I didn’t want to catch the last train after a night out.
Clinique when I was a student - I really didn’t have the budget for it.
Recently have given up more expensive make up brands like Bobbi Brown, and moved to high st make up - have not noticed the difference.

Friendofdennis · 04/04/2022 20:07

I'm 45 now. When I was a student I bought branded food all the time, loads of Cds and designer perfume.

Over the years I've spent loads of money on socialising, coffees out etc. Don't feel like it was wasted though as The time with friends was wonderful and so many great conversations and happy memories!

AnnieSnap · 04/04/2022 20:31

Diesel

mowglika · 04/04/2022 21:12

I don’t find these posts depressing, in fact it’s quite uplifting to hear of so many people liberated from the crap you think you have to have/do to live a content life. Sounds like more and more people cherishing experiences rather than things, which would never bring you the happiness you want anyway.

Mine are magazines as I don’t have time to read them anymore. I buy less clothes and I’ve not had any less pleasure in rewearing outfits for special occasions. I don’t buy makeup nearly as much as I have a good stash which will last me another 10 years now, also I just wear a lot less makeup since lockdown.

Chilmark79 · 04/04/2022 21:23

I used to have customised Aveda shampoo and conditioner. You’d chose the colour and scent and they’d mix it in store. For a while I believed this was necessary expenditure, however it didn’t survive first contact with parenthood.
