he is a tory,
he is not even labour

whether he and his wife are rich should not matter

There are rumours the Sunaks (his dad’s side) escaped Uganda with all of their money through their political connections and bribery and may even have made money due to Idi Amin.

starmer went to a grammar school and oxford
Grammar schools are state schools. You get in through your own merit not because you pay fees Hmm

I'm almost certain that Rishi won almost a whole scholarship and his parents topped up the few thousand remaining. Then a few years on, it was increased to a full one.

What about Tony and his property empire built entirely on the success of his political career. He was the popular sort of Labour, right? I don't know if he knows what a woman is though. Hmm

THIS! Totally this. I was one of the people left to fall through the cracks. But the thing that I will never forget was the abhorrent way Sunak spoke about “us” (ie the millions of self employed people) as if we were all on the take. All trying to beat the system and now we’d got our comeuppance and he was going to come for us down the line. Shone a light on him, as far as I’m concerned. His knee jerk reaction might be “try to avoid taxation” but it sure as hell isn’t everyone’s
Yes ! 100 x yes. Being classed as some sort of petty criminal then left out to dry. As you can tell I am still not over it 😡

Nurses are not working class, they are well qualified, working class to me would be a Manual labourer
Oh, Mary, come and listen to this!
beguilingeyes · 04/04/2022 11:22

The way these narcissists have their own photographer and keep posting photos to make themselves look god that gets my goat.
We're in the middie of a Pandemic/war/cost of living crisis and we get Liz Truss and her Thatcher impressions and Sunak trying to show us how normal he is with his hoodys and sliders and fake car filling stunt. Johnson trying to make out that he runs.

Octomore · 04/04/2022 14:02

@Soffit Just because you think he won a scholarship, doesn't make it true. Most articles about his background and education state the opposite.

For example:

oknowimscared · 04/04/2022 15:05

@TheDogsMother I'm not over it either!

longwayoff · 04/04/2022 15:56

Andrew and Fergie are always scrounging for crumbs from a rich man's table, Mr and Mrs Rishi must be top of their guest list, hopefully they've managed to avoid any invitations.

Eyedropeyeflop · 04/04/2022 15:59

No I don’t appreciate being told not to worry about the COL from the guy who’s missis is richer than the queen.

Give over.

littledrummergirl · 05/04/2022 07:17

I also fell through the cracks.
Working a zero hours contract while trying to start up a fledgling business. No furlough as the hours were just stopped, no way to make the business work and no support as it was too new.

Dh was furlough and his income for that first year was just under £15000.
We received no help from either our fuel or council tax despite plenty of other people qualifying we didn't.
We're still catching up on the bills, just when I thought we were almost there paying a ridiculous £740 a month just in council tax, gas and electric (another 6 months) to clear arrears, the cost of fuel is doubling.

I really hope Sunak is enjoying his Easter break, he's done so much to help people like me. Hmm
I won't post my opinion of his mismanagement of the public finances, I quite like mumsnet.

Indicatrice · 05/04/2022 07:54

@MrsLargeEmbodied

but why should his wife's riches make any difference?

i get there should be scrutiny if Russia are involved and the money is ill gotten gains -
he is the exchequer,
not his wife

He has a personal fortune of £200.
Indicatrice · 05/04/2022 07:54

£200m

and of course Sunak/HMRCs war against and hatred for individual self employed people has nothing at all top do with the fact that his Wife's Dad founded a company that does work highly skilled self employed people used to do in the UK and replaces them with cheaper overseas workers.
