If you have a room thermometer, how warm are your rooms?

My thermostat is in the hall and that's the coldest place in the house so I pay no mind to it. The heating is off now as I'm in debt to the fuel company and not wanting to use the heating unless absolutely necessary. We are using hot water bottles at night, minimising using the oven, the hot water is only on for an hour a day, I've got thermal curtains over the draughty front door and patio door and when the heating was being used I had half the radiators switched off.

I've ordered some room thermometers to see just how cold the main rooms are when we are complaining it's cold. If you have them, what is the temperature in your living room and bedrooms?

@mogsrus

Let’s all go to the energy companies & say, can’t pay this, can you imagine what would happen if 10 million people did that, I wonder?

A bit like the Poll Tax?!

AlternativelyWired · 04/04/2022 10:05

I've put the heating on now for an hour as it's so cold. I've got 3 layers on and my nose and feet are freezing.

I'm amazed at all these people with 16C+ readings with no heating. We are in the SE and our kitchen and living room are in an extension so insulated to reasonable, modern standards and it's only 10C (I am a heating refusenik once the clocks go forward).

Nicholethejewellery · 04/04/2022 10:40

15.9C in my living room. If it gets much below 14 I turn the heating on for a bit, generally my rule is "no heating until the clocks go back".

Crimesean · 04/04/2022 10:51

15.6 in the living room where I work, which is perfect for me (I like a cold room).

DH prefers a warmer room, as does DS, so the play room is 18 and DH's little office is 19.

It's warmed up by 1 degree. I've taken meter readings and have been on hold to my supplier for an hour now trying to sort out an affordable direct debit.I think I'll make soup today for dinner.

Living room is 13 degrees. Bathroom is 12. Bedroom 13 too. They're the only rooms I have thermometers in.

I'm not putting the heating on at all - I wrap up warm and use an electric throw.

I am envious of the 16/17/18/19 degrees mentioned on here.

AlternativelyWired · 04/04/2022 12:32

And they have cut me off 😩 I got to the point of setting up the direct debit amount and the line went dead.

Today it’s been 13 degrees in my house. I feel like crying, we’re a 2 income house and I have 2 fucking jobs that I can’t afford the petrol to get to and from. I’m just so done and fucking cold.

Chasingaftermidnight · 04/04/2022 21:15

Currently 18 in our bedroom and 17 in the kitchen diner but heating has just been on. Overnight the thermostat (also in the hall) will be set to 12. We have a 12 week old baby so we got a small electric radiator with a thermostat and we set it to 16 in our room (the room he sleeps in) overnight.

CrazyRatLover · 04/04/2022 21:35

@Parth 23.6 Jesus, how do you cope with that?!!!

KittenKins · 04/04/2022 23:48

My heating is set to 22 & my thermometer says 22 also. We only brought it because everyone agrees whatever thermostat states is rubbish. I may start moving it around, as right now the two sit together.

HopingForMyRainbowBaby · 05/04/2022 00:09

I don't but my guess is Antarctic conditions. It's bloody freezing in here! Even Mr Mog is snuggled up on the end of the bed wrapped up in the teddy blanket I've thrown over the top of the teddy bedding to stay warm during the night. In fact it was warmer outside than it was inside the other day.

purpleme12 · 05/04/2022 00:16

In my bedroom it's 14.5 at the minute according to the groegg (still got it cos I love knowing the temperature 🤣)
But I've been ok tonight

AlwaysLatte · 05/04/2022 00:39

About 20 degrees. I tend to feel warm beyond that and turn it off (although my husband is happy if it goes up to 22 or so)

AlternativelyWired · 05/04/2022 12:27

It's 16 in the living room and that feels quite comfortable. I did put the heating on for an hour earlier. I can't imagine being able to tolerate 23 degrees unless it's summer and there's a breeze through the window.

Realistically, I think we may be about to find out.
