AIBU… failed driving test at the last turn, is this reasonable?

Literally that… I failed my driving test at the last turn. Turned left off the road and into the car park. I then apparently took the right hand turn (once inside the car park) too far on the right side of the road… was told I cut the corner at a junction…. No road markings. It was my one and only major fault. A few minors otherwise.

See pic…. Red arrow was my path. Blue mark was the end of the test…

AIBU - you deserved to fail.

YANBU - that’s unfair, you should have passed.

I don’t know what it is but I can’t see a pic?

FloralsForSpring · 01/04/2022 21:09

The last turn is just as important as any of the others

44PumpLane · 01/04/2022 21:12

Well it's clearly a bit of a bugger but last minute or first minute of the test it's all the same in terms of pass/fail.

You have to be on your best behaviour for the whole test.

Nnique · 01/04/2022 21:13

As pp said, a major fault is still a major even if it’s the last turn you make on your test!

Commiserations, I know it’s annoying to fail. Flowers But you were very close and you’ll get it next time!

Blanketpolicy · 01/04/2022 21:13

Bit harsh to say you "deserved" to fail, but it was a major fault and therefore a failure.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 01/04/2022 21:14

Heard this before where fails for parking up at the centre.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 01/04/2022 21:17

It's very bad luck, but you do need to be as careful in a car park as you are on the road. More so probably because there can be pedestrians and possibly children running around, as well as other cars moving around.

Commiserations, learn from it for next time when you will pass, and don't dwell on any perceived unfairness since you can't change it regardless.

Haffdonga · 01/04/2022 21:17

DS failed his first test in the carpark at the end. A major fault is a major. Not unfair just bad luck.

Lastsecondfail · 01/04/2022 21:17

I have tried to upload a picture but can't.. it was cobble stones within a car park.

But as you said not that it matters. DS was gutted for me... guess it teaches him that you have to get up a try again Smile

Fingers crossed for next time....

Will keep trying to upload a pic!

Finally… not that it makes much difference. Have now booked my first driving lesson too! The driving instructor said that most instructors use a further away center as the local one has a very low pass rate (40%) possibly something to do with this car park?

AIBU… failed driving test at the last turn, is this reasonable?
iklboo · 05/04/2022 11:19

I asked DH (driving Instructor) & he says it's a fail. Cutting the corner - plus you might have had a couple of minors for being too close to parked cars and the way you came in was another instance of it, turning it into a serious. Such a shame it was right at the end but it's still a fail as the test wasn't over and you were in control of the vehicle at the time.

incognitoforthisone · 05/04/2022 11:22

I'm pretty sure the examiner knows what constitutes a pass or a fail. They don't fail people for fun. I know it's frustrating, but I bet you'll pass with flying colours next time.

billyt · 05/04/2022 11:27

One of my pet hates is drivers cutting the corner when turning right. Why? just why? It's not bloody difficult to stay on the correct side of the lines.

If you can't do it right while being tested then you won't give a shit when driving on your own.

Probably good that he failed you as hopefully you'll be more aware in future.

Phos · 05/04/2022 11:29

It's really frustrating but I suppose it doesn't matter when you get the major.

I failed once with zero minors and got a major for stalling at a junction.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 05/04/2022 11:29

Cutting a corner is cutting a corner, whether it's on the road or in the car park, supposing those cars on the right were starting to reverse and didn't see you?

BigSandyBalls2015 · 05/04/2022 11:29

What do you mean by first driving lesson? Haven't you been having any?!

SheWoreYellow · 05/04/2022 11:32

Aw. That seems harsh.

God luck for next time.

medicmummm · 05/04/2022 11:36

Nope, never had a single lesson.

Taught by parents and practiced with them since.

0 minors is a great achievement!

I don't even know why I did it, I must have just switched off! It's not something I have done before! Confused

Now starting to doubt myself for next time.

I'm hoping it will make me a better driver in the long term Smile

lanthanum · 05/04/2022 11:37

I failed twice in the last couple of minutes. I told my friends that they needed to know that the driving test was longer than when they did it, and please would they keep their fingers crossed for the full length!

Octomore · 05/04/2022 11:38

It doesn't matter at what point in the test you make a major fault - you should fail regardless because a major fault is a major fault.

Lots of people have failed for just one error in a test (including me), it's not unusual at all. Just accept the outcome and retake it.

Octomore · 05/04/2022 11:39

I can't believe you're even asking the question tbh. A safe driver would acknowledge that an error can be dangerous regardless of when it is made.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 05/04/2022 11:39

Well you've done very well indeed, considering you haven't had any professional lessons. Good luck for the next time!

KarmaStar · 05/04/2022 11:45

Look at it this way😀it will stick in your mind, you'll be extra careful about cutting corners and it could avoid an etc in the future.Things happen for a reason up even if we can't see it at the time.
Good luck next test🌈.
P.s. If it makes you feel any better,my friend drive into the wall surrounding the test centre on the way out, failed before left the site.😀

KarmaStar · 05/04/2022 11:46

Rtc not etc sorry!

xyzandabc · 05/04/2022 17:13

But if a car had been coming in the opposite direction to your red arrow, you'd have hit it. You can't cut the corner just because it's 'only a car park'. There are still vehicles moving around and expecting you to stick to the left.
