AIBU… failed driving test at the last turn, is this reasonable?

Literally that… I failed my driving test at the last turn. Turned left off the road and into the car park. I then apparently took the right hand turn (once inside the car park) too far on the right side of the road… was told I cut the corner at a junction…. No road markings. It was my one and only major fault. A few minors otherwise.

See pic…. Red arrow was my path. Blue mark was the end of the test…

AIBU - you deserved to fail.

YANBU - that’s unfair, you should have passed.

@billyt

One of my pet hates is drivers cutting the corner when turning right. Why? just why? It's not bloody difficult to stay on the correct side of the lines.

If you can't do it right while being tested then you won't give a shit when driving on your own.

Probably good that he failed you as hopefully you'll be more aware in future.

Totally agree, we have a kink to the right at the end of the road and it means that cars turning right into it need to go further then do a more than 90 degree turn, so many don't do that and go across the apex, not even just clipping it.

Quick update-

I passed today with 4 minors GrinEaster Grin

Thanks for all of the thoughts and options- I definitely feel like I have become a better driver because of what happened last time.

@Lastsecondfail that’s wonderful news well done!

WeAllHaveWings · 19/04/2022 13:01

Well done @Lastsecondfail !!!

Enjoy your new found driving freedom and don't be cutting any corners out there! Wink

Technosaurus · 19/04/2022 13:03

I failed my first test due to a wheel being an inch over the line on the bay used to park before we finished. The second I saw it I knew it was a fail, was hoping I'd cocked something else up somewhere... The examiner was very apologetic saying it was my only major and no minors!

Annoying but not unfair, that's just how it is. Passed second time with 8 minors, don't worry about it, just learn not to do it again.

Inkyblue123 · 19/04/2022 13:03

That’s life. Get over it and do it again.
I failed mine several times - once the examiner was asleep and woke up startled and failed me for failing to stop at a major junction. I had stopped and she would have noticed if she was awake. It’s not the end of the world, just do it again

Technosaurus · 19/04/2022 13:04

Just seen the update - congratulations!

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 19/04/2022 13:10

It may not be solely to do with that. I failed my first take for failing to overtake someone driving slowly on a dual carriageway. My examiner explained it was because he thought I didn't have the confidence to make decisions quickly.

You say there were also some minor fails; what were they?

Just learn from it and reapply. And practice lots in the meantime.

Zilla1 · 19/04/2022 13:34

Was it a car park where the Highway Code applies, OP?

Zilla1 · 19/04/2022 13:34

Congratulations.

Jaxhog · 19/04/2022 13:42

I also failed the first time for stalling the car in the car park as I parked at the end! Never done it again (stalling). But I passed the next time.

threecee · 19/04/2022 15:20

I thought there was a long waiting list for driving tests, 2 in 3 weeks must be unusual.

catscatscatseverywhere · 19/04/2022 15:34

Cutting corners can be dangerous, you might not see the car coming. People on my street do it constantly with the high speed. So yeah, I would say he was right failing you this time. Fingers crossed for the next attempt lovely x

catscatscatseverywhere · 19/04/2022 15:35

Oooh, congratulations!! Just saw the update.

Cancellation probably.

The services that search for cancellations can find you a new test much earlier, I used them when I failed my tests.

bruce43mydog · 19/04/2022 15:49

Yes i failed mine on a bay park in the test centre car park because the left side back wheel was on the white line. So basically i had passed the test until the last minute when i messed up. The lecture i had from my driving instructure from test centre all the way home.
i went to bed & cryed all day, couldnt believe they could fail me for a small mistake. I passed on the next one though. Good luck next time.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 19/04/2022 16:03

I failed 1 minute away from the test centre after driving with no minors before handSad I passed a week later though.

You won't do it again! Better luck next time.

Aprilx · 19/04/2022 16:06

That is a shame, but I think a clear fail, you were essentially driving on the wrong side of the road. I don’t think it matters whether it was at the beginning middle or end of the test. I am sure you will have it get it next time.

Straightupp · 19/04/2022 16:06

@Phos @Jaxhog

Is that a recent thing, a fail because of stalling the car? I literally stalled the car on my first test pulling out of the test centre at a junction and thought it was all over, but was told you can't fail for stalling the car? I did fail in the end but not because of the stalling.

I'm talking years ago, so perhaps is a new thing now!

StressyMcStressFace · 19/04/2022 16:18

The same thing happened to my DS as he reversed into a parking space at the test centre at the end of test. As he began to reverse a learner with instructor about 10ft away also moved and the examiner failed DS as they were moving at the same time (for about a second) 😣. Instructor failed him on that - only 8 minors up to that point . DS obviously gutted. Next test still to happen. Reading these comments it looks like it's not that uncommon so I guess there's comfort in that 🤷🏼‍♀️. But it feels incredibly frustrating and harsh!! Good luck for the next time🤞

frustrated354 · 19/04/2022 16:20

Yay glad you passed!
