To ask why he was in the changing room next door?

Met police officer caught filming woman as she undressed in Primark.

Sorry for the DM link, and hopefully I've pasted it right.

Nowhere in the article does it say why he was in the cubicle next door, with free and easy access to slide a phone under the gap and do this.

Are the changing rooms in Primark not spectated by male/female anymore?

It is important to note all the posters who ask ‘why?’ he was in the changing room unchallenged! Most of these changes in policy, wording and attempted changes in law have been done so stealthily.
And the BeKind bollocks!

I am so glad this is discussed more, in any publication.

The unisex opening allows men in to place the cameras. Which then record women and girls.

That's why single sex spaces are important. Lockable doors don't prevent this happening.

Catlady2021 · 03/04/2022 10:48

In a crazy world a man called John can suddenly identify himself as a woman, call himself Jane but still be a man, look like a man, act like a man.
But can use whatever changing rooms they want, because of how ‘they’ identify themselves.

This is a transwoman: www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/mar/30/tory-mp-jamie-wallis-trans-reveals-rape-ordeal

Can you tell the difference between Jamie Wallis and Swaleh Chaudhry?

Jamie Wallis has said he is now trans but has no plans to change his name, appearance or pronouns. No one is going to not #bekind and turf him out of a women's changing room. You could explain that the Equality Act 2010 grants an exemption for single sex spaces rather than single gender or uni sex ones - but you're likely to face a barrage of abuse for being a transphobic bigot. That's where we are now. You let in Jamie Wallis, you let in Swaleh Chaudhry.

Fluffymule · 03/04/2022 11:31

This is the nub of the problem.

For example, as a mother in the leisure centre changing room with her 9 and 13 year old daughters, how are you supposed to know if the naked male bodied person standing in front of you all is a transwoman or a predatory male?

If you complain you open yourself up to claims of bigotry and possible prosecution for a hate crime.

You, and your daughters safety and right to privacy or dignity have been eroded, and this will get worse unless politicians step up and deal with this issue.

@Pixiedust1234

Welcome to the new world where men can and do anything they desire.
How is this new?

Exactly. We need some common sense and get rid of this ludicrous problem. People are worried about being sued or having claims made against them .People are scared to challenge the issue as a result.

jessieminto · 03/04/2022 12:34

I don't understand the PPs who have missed the point about why this is about Trans women and Self ID.

This met officer is a man. Was always a man and never claimed to be anything other than a man.

It's trans ideology and self ID that means we no longer have male/female changing rooms and any man can stroll up to the womens changing room and go in the cubicle next door to a woman or girl. Then get he phone and and start filming. For his own sexual pleasure. He is a predator. He is not trans. But those who believe Trans women are women and should have access to womens spaces have opened the door for predators like him.

Not just the door to changing rooms, and toilets, but prison cells and refuges. Trans Nurses conducting smears and breast exams because their rights to carry out these procedures on patients who specifically request a female is more important than the patients consent and dignity.

This is all a safeguarding issue, not an anti trans issue. Women and girls cannot be protected from predatory males.

99% of sex offenders are male and 88% of victims are female. Sex matters and safeguarding can't be ignored simply because someone self IDs as trans.

Agree with everything you’ve said, @jessieminto

Safeguarding should always come first, way above anyone’s need to claim an “identity”.

Biological women.....let's all use the men's loos at the theatre and other public venues, and make the biological men queue forever. (And fine them heavily when they then go and piss in the stairwells)Grin

balalake · 03/04/2022 13:30

The Met Officer is not just a man, but a Met Officer. Who judging by too many recent examples, think they can behave just as they like.

Won't work because most women can't use urinals (and I'm pretty sure you'd get done for indecent exposure if you tried)
WellNotReally · 03/04/2022 14:22

What is so utterly depressing is that the evidence is clear on what happens to women when mixed sex changing rooms are brought in. It's here:

womanmeanssomething.com/1034-2/

Therefore it's safe to assume that every organisation which introduces mixed sex changing rooms doesn't give a flying fuck about women. None of them will be getting my money any more

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 03/04/2022 14:35

@jessieminto

I'm going to make a conscious effort to only buy from shops now that have separate facilities or floor to ceiling walls and doors.
I am doing the same and actively choosing to shop where there are safe-changing spaces. It is a priority for me.

I buy from other shops occasionally - but only if it is certain that an item will fit/look good. No 'I'll just try this' for me in those shops and this has has led to considerable savings :)

VelvetChairGirl · 03/04/2022 14:41

just ignore changing rooms, buy whatever, take it home and if it doesnt fit, take it back and demand a refund citing that you didnt try it on instore because you refuse to use unisex facilities as they make you feel unsafe and cause you anxiety.

if everyone did that you would soon see single sex changing rooms return, all that time and effort of the staff dealing with unnecessary returns.

VelvetChairGirl · 03/04/2022 14:49

@thenightsky

I don't know if the changing rooms were mixed in this case, but they are becoming more common. (This includes changing rooms which are officially mixed, and also those which are separated but where you get to choose which one you feel most comfortable in

I'm thinking I might be more comfortable in the biological males' changing room. More likely to not be pervs.

this is true, but if a lot of us choose the male changing rooms and pull the trans card enough for the pervs to notice we will be back to square one.
Icantfly · 03/04/2022 16:26

It’s not transwomen that’s the problem, it’s self ID which can be easily abused and has been many times. If we go by self ID how do we know who should genuinely be in the womens changing rooms?

For example one of the people selfID’s as a transwoman, one selfIDs as non binary and one is a man - if there were standing in front of you, which two of the three would you say are the two allowed in the womens changing room?

To ask why he was in the changing room next door?
Icantfly · 03/04/2022 16:28

Additionally many transwomen are against self ID. Imagine as an example a man has nefarious or fetishistic intentions towards a trans woman/transwomen - they would be able to selfID as a woman and follow them into changing rooms, toilets, anywhere really. Transwomen are not safe either that’s why they change which bathrooms and changing rooms they use during the ‘live like a woman for 2 years’ stage of gender reassignment rather than at the end of the whole process.

UsernameNotAvailableHmm · 03/04/2022 18:23

I wouldn't go into any changing room now, especially after hearing about the Met police officer caught filming women
Even if the changing room was signed for women only, the fact that males can self ID as women, gain access to the changing room, fix up a camera and record any number of women undressing, puts me off completely
What a miserable existence for women and girls
Yet another misogynistic turn of the tourniquet around our necks
So that's it now. No swimming, no gym, no trying on clothes in shops, no going into toilets when I'm out anywhere
It's the younger generations I feel most sorry for
My dear daughters and grand daughters have so many more years of this crap than I do

Just to back up previous posters- it is Primark policy that all stores in the UK have unisex changing rooms in order to be inclusive. No separate men's and women's. Read: so that they can avoid the thorny issue of whether shop staff should bar any particular personage from accessing the women's changing room.

This policy was unveiled in their flagship stores in 2019, and it's now been rolled out countrywide. This is not the first incident of someone being caught being a voyeur in a neighbouring cubicle, and it won't be the last. It has got to the point that when I saw this story pop up on social media, I knew it would involve a Primark before I clicked through. It generally is.

www.goodto.com/wellbeing/wellbeing-news/primark-unisex-changing-rooms-484319

It is my belief that Primark's unisex changing room policy is something that sexual predators are fully aware of, and that they visit Primark specifically.

I can't believe sexual predators would go to all the trouble of figuring out what the most "inclusive" high street stores are...

Helleofabore · 04/04/2022 08:42

I would recommend anyone who has stopped using Primark changing rooms, or who is worried about this to write to Primark customer service.

If enough of us do, and post this article, it must eventually get sent to up the line to senior management.

Don’t make it about trans people, while this lowering of boundaries and safeguarding is the result of trans lobbying, this is ultimately about the lack of safeguarding for women and children.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 04/04/2022 08:43

I know, right?

Who knew that anyone could both have the capacity to read signage and be a sexual predator? Shock

You can see why Primark never foresaw anything of the sort.

Well read the news article being discussed and you’ll see at least one predator who did exactly that.
