Porn star martini Pizza Express

Why are Pizza Express advertising 'Porn Star Martinis' on every table at their restaurants? AIBU to find this disgusting for a family restaurant? I don't really wish to explain to my 6 year old what it is.

OP posts:

@alwaysontheloo

Slow hand clap to all the cool girls who are down with normalising the fast creeping, insidious world of porn into our lives. Go you!
I don't think pornstar martinis are fast creeping. They're 20 years old.
Gooseberrypies · 31/03/2022 18:32

@Flour8977

For what it's worth the staff also found it appalling and said they kept complaining to head office about it.
It’s worth nothing since it’s absolutely not true and they said it to stop you whinging. Lol. Who cares???
Dontforgetyourbrolly · 31/03/2022 18:34

Inappropriate!
On holiday our hotel had " love on the beach " which was a lot less cringey seeing as I was with my 7 year old who can read anything and also my 70 year old mum who would definitely clutch her pearls !

@IBelieveInBiology

Urgh, how horrible. It's not just that it's inappropriate in a family setting and may provoke awkward questions from children (not all of whom are 6 Hmm), and it's not just that it's related to sex - sex is great. It's the whole vibe of the term "porn star", as if it were something glamorous and aspirational, involving sipping cocktails and a luxury life... rather than a sordid, disgusting exploitation of women; many of whom may have been trafficked or have got into a situation they don't want to be in.
Perfect summary of why it’s dodgy AF. Well said.
gogohm · 31/03/2022 18:36

@EV117

My local cocktail/buffet place that the kids love (adults I should add) see both passion fruit martinis and porn star martinis, the later comes with a little pot of Prosecco, the former is more bitter. They have over 100 cocktails, the kids are making it their business to try them all at our expense (before they start work in September, graduation is this summer)

BoredZelda · 31/03/2022 18:37

I mean you can get 'Sex on the Beach' cocktails.

Advertised on a card on the table? Never seen that.

People do seem to like to miss the point.

NeinDanke · 31/03/2022 18:37

Wow this is a depressing thread. OP, YANBU.

Also, not the point, I know, but I can't believe they still use that tacky name in 2022. Time to consign it to the past along with Page Three, Lads' mags et al. Oh, and mocking women for having different boundaries to you and shaming them with names such as "prude" and "pearl-clutchers."

IBelieveInBiology · 31/03/2022 18:38

I don't think pornstar martinis are fast creeping. They're 20 years old

But the product placement of them in prime position on the table in a so-called family restaurant is a new thing. Would not have happened a few years ago. So it is normalising the phrase and language.

Quite.

I think it’s inappropriate.

IBelieveInBiology · 31/03/2022 18:41

So what? The name may be risqué, but implies consenting adults having fun.

Pornography however ... well I won't bore you with my thoughts again!

GoodJanetBadJanet · 31/03/2022 18:42

Pizza express sell pornstar martinis?!
There was me thinking it was just your diet coke type stuff in there 😂
Now really want pizza and cocktails

Chely · 31/03/2022 18:45

I have porn star dancing on my play list and don't skip it for the kids.

Everything said here. Also the fact that it isn't in any way a Martini.
BrioNotBiro · 31/03/2022 18:48

Do they do spaghetti puttanesca?

Oblomov22 · 31/03/2022 18:50

It's a cocktail name. I too don't have a problem with it.

Or maybe people are just able to understand that the name of a drink that is 20 years old has absolutely fuck all to do with normalising anything.

Get a grip.

dewl · 31/03/2022 18:57

Those of you who think it's not inappropriate are absolute wronguns 😂

Benjispruce5 · 31/03/2022 18:57

I wonder do Pizza Express have the cocktail Sex on the Beach on their tables?

HedgehogToes · 31/03/2022 18:59

@Chely

But would you show them the video and tell your daughter's that it was a solid career choice?

Or tell your son's that you can buy access to women's bodies and that that's ok too?

Because when you (not you personally, you in the general) endorse stripping, porn, buying consent as ok and mainstream, then it perpetuates the abuse of women and girls.

(Just using your post as a quote, not getting at you personally.)

HedgehogToes · 31/03/2022 19:00

*rogue apostrophes all over the place there.

tigerbird · 31/03/2022 19:01

I’d hate it too. Normalising porn culture is not remotely appropriate for a family restaurant.

We should all complain - having heard this I won’t be taking my 9 y o DD to Pizza Express any more, because I don’t feel like paying my own money out to legitimise porn and the normalisation of women as commercial sex objects.

Definitely YANBU!!!

Nanny0gg · 31/03/2022 19:06

@Gonnagetgoing

Actually in Ask and Zizzi they both call it a Passionfruit Martini so all you pearl-clutchers just go there to avoid poisoning your little ones eyes by reading the name of the Pornstar one.
Why the sarcasm?

Why the need to have sex everywhere these days? Why do children have to have inappropriate things in front of them at every turn?

Wasn't that long ago there was a fight to put soft-porn magazines above children's eye levels.

Dahlietta · 31/03/2022 19:06

Like kids haven't heard of porn or seen it on someone's big brothers phone
I am confident that my 4yo, who reads everything at the moment because it’s a new skill, does not know what porn is and hasn’t seen it on someone’s big brother’s phone.

CasperGutman · 31/03/2022 19:06

I dislike the name and would prefer it wasn't prominently advertised on tables in a restaurant I take my children to.

For me though it's more of an issue with older children/teenagers who do know what it means, because it normalises porn as an accepted and acceptable part of mainstream culture.

With younger children I can't really imagine they'd care too much about the origin of the name. They learn new words a the time. Mine would be just as likely to ask who Martin was as to want to know who or what a pornstar was.
