Porn star martini Pizza Express

Why are Pizza Express advertising 'Porn Star Martinis' on every table at their restaurants? AIBU to find this disgusting for a family restaurant? I don't really wish to explain to my 6 year old what it is.

@MisterMeaner I’m sure the PR team for Pizza Express have a better justification for promoting this than “it’s just a name”

Quite likely, but I haven't seen an argument on this thread that goes beyond it.

Su9999 · 31/03/2022 22:56

@girlmom21

Just tell your kid a porn star is someone who's good at chess. Easy.
Lying to kids good suggestion there 🙄
GoodJanetBadJanet · 31/03/2022 23:02

Why would you even say what it is, I mean surely its the name of the drink would suffice?!
Age appropriate answers surely
Just like if they saw the word sex you wouldnt launch into a detailed description of shagging

Nanny0gg · 31/03/2022 23:08

@Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious

Damn my finger slipped!

I meant to say 'this' My child wouldn't notice and if he did, I'd just say a drink. I worry how many peoples children would press them to tell them what a pornstar is tbh. My child would just accept it's the name for a drink.

So your kid wouldn't ask.

All kids aren't the same. My DGC definitely would

jackstini · 31/03/2022 23:22

Dd works in a family restaurant (independent, not chain) and it's a Pure Star Martini on their menu as the owner didn't think it appropriate to have Porn Star in writing where kids could read it

worriedatthistime · 31/03/2022 23:25

Why would a kid ask what it means
I mean do they ask what coco cola means, or barcardi & coke
You just tell them its a drink: cocktail and they all have silly names

Vargas · 31/03/2022 23:27

I'm not a prude but this is totally unnecessary. Choose a different cocktail ffs.

Whatsonmymindgrapes · 31/03/2022 23:44

Just say it’s an adult drink

NurseBernard · 31/03/2022 23:53

Big up to all the classy birds on here, who regularly drink porn star martinis.

Nice bit of misogyny there.

I like a porn star martini, it's a nice drink and it's just a stupid name and I cannot get worked up about stuff like this. I just can't.

Loving all the assumptions about small minded kids etc and how those of us who don't give things like this headspace are raging porn addicts who support trafficiing etc.

Never change.

Yeah, they don't need that word in their vocab yet! Also bothered seeing outside newsagents on pavement big sign 30cm letters 'CHILD PORN!' headline for the local paper. Cheers, thanks for that. FFS.

dewl · 01/04/2022 00:45

It's most damaging to the 12/13/14+ year olds who know what porn is.

I'm gobsmacked how naive some of you lot are.
"They're just words"
WTF?

NurseBernard · 01/04/2022 03:46

Exactly.

You can probably pull the wool over the eyes of an uninquisitive 6YO.

12+ not so much….

Moonmelodies · 01/04/2022 05:26

Don't tell them it's a cocktail
They might ask what a cock is.

RedRobin100 · 01/04/2022 05:31

Yeah it’s a bit tone deaf in a very much family oriented restaurant I agree

I love porn star martinis, they’re one of my faves - but even I cringe a bit inside ordering it

TeddyisMydog · 01/04/2022 05:37

@CaveMum

I’m guessing that those posters who are fine with it were also fine with Playboy bunny logos all over kid’s stationary a few years ago too?

We shouldn’t be happy with the “normalisation” of porn in society. I’m more than happy to be called a prude for not wanting to safeguard my children against exposure to it. I will have an appropriate conversation with them about it when they are old enough, but the argument of “they hear worse in school” is not good enough. They shouldn’t be hearing ANYTHING about porn at school other than sensible age appropriate discussions at secondary school about how misogynistic and unrepresentative of real life it is.

If a primary aged child knows what porn is and how to access it it is a massive safeguarding red flag, not a badge of honour.

I personally don't have a problem with the name porn star martini, maybe I'm not very well lived as I have never drank it and thought that I'd be supporting porn by doing so Hmm

But just wanted to chime in that I LOVED the Playboy bunny logo when I was a child Blush I begged my mum for curtains, rugs, pens, lava lamp of it. I got most of it as well so she must not have had an issue with it either.

PegasusReturns · 01/04/2022 08:03

Totally. It’s the normalisation of the industry. All of you who have 6 year olds to whom you can say “it’s just a word” come back when you have teen girls who get relentlessly harassed for “nudes”; or are desperate for lip fillers and boob jobs; who think that only fans is something “everyone does”.

The way porn has crept into normal world is insidious.

Blossomtoes · 01/04/2022 08:09

Knowledge is power. If what you say about teenage girls is right @PegasusReturns you’re doing your daughter no favours as a parent by burying your head in the sand. It’s up to you to have those conversations with your daughter about the pervasiveness of porn and how it objectifies women. If you have a daughter who wants lip fillers and breast enlargement, a cocktail called a Porn Star is the least of your worries.

longwayoff · 01/04/2022 08:16

Let me help you. "What is it mummy?" 'It's a drink for grown ups. Here's your pizza'. Agree its grim though, complain to management.
