I'm 35 and now can't get away with plucking the odd hair. Stupidly used a razor once and it's grown back stubble under my chin.

I have fine hair on upper lip that don't bother me too much and seem to respond ok to the at home waxing, but the thick black stubble hairs under/on my chin just stay where they are and I can't see/have time to pluck them out one by one (there are a lot 🙈)

Any recommendations? Are some waxes better than others? Thank you

I use an epilator on my beard hairs- it smarts a bit but works well. I don't get on with facial waxing- every time I've had it done in a salon (different ones, so it's not just one person's poor technique) or tried it at home I end up with a bit of skin ripped off Shock. So epilating has the same effect but less damage.

I have a Philips Lumea, so I also zap my face with that when I do the rest of me but it unfortunately doesn't seem to work for my face (I suppose it may have helped though and I'd be able to join the circus if I didn't use it Hmm) though it's great for legs and bikini line.

Just to reassure you that it's worryingly normal to get horrible coarse hairs on your chin, I've had the conversation with a few people recently as we've been horrified by finding more and more beard!

JML Flawless - absolutely brilliant. I use on top lip, chin and eyebrows

MillyMollyMurphy · 30/03/2022 11:38

I’m in full beard mode now. I tweeze mine but it’s giving me spots. Hair removal cream burns and the regrowth is so quick it’s pointless. I do like a quick sweep with a razor I’ll be honest.

I tried that and found it didn't work for me.

Like the OP I've tried plucking, until there were to many hairs to keep up with it.

Waxing hurts and doesn't get all the hairs.

Hair removal can works but is expensive to do all the time.

So currently I shave, though if I do it daily it makes me sore. So I just have to put up with stubble some days (luckily I work from home and don't do video calls) I write enjoyed wearing face masks all the time so I didn't have to worry about people seeing my stubble 😂

I'm hoping the lumea will go into a sale at some point. That seems like my last hope at this point.

Frazzlerock · 30/03/2022 11:56

Lumea is crap crap crap. I sold mine eventually after trying on and off for more than 10 years. Mind you, I have PCOS, so it was fighting with hormones and the bastard hormones won in the end. Also be wary because you can only shave between sessions so now I'm left having to shave every single day to keep the stubble at bay, even though I no longer use it.
I wish they'd find a cure for this. I find it debilitating and it is the first thing I think about when I have to stay over anywhere. I even worry about ending up in a coma one day and no one else knows I have this problem, I'm gonna grow a full beard!
Sorry, total derailment! Just wanted to warn you how rubbish the Lumea is Grin

Actually, one thing that worked well for me before my cycle of shaving began was one of those wand things with like a tightly coiled spring that you manipulate across your face, and it plucks them out. Can't remember what it was called...

chinnychinchilla · 30/03/2022 11:59

Thanks so much it's so comforting to know it's so common. I will definitely try an epilator and One of those coil things as I haven't tried these

Is there a huge difference in epilator? Just looking and there's some for £30 and others for £200!

Oh no really?! I was kind of counting on that. I did see it isn't meant to work well with all hair/skin colours, but I've got really dark hair and really pale skin so from what I've read it should work well for me

over2021 · 30/03/2022 12:21

I epilate my chin (cheap £30 brain I bought in 2008!) and have my upper lip waxed every 6 weeks or so- upper lip hair is now sparse (a few years of waxing)

TempName01 · 30/03/2022 12:23

I have the JmL flawless which is ok but it is more or a shaver so I would welcome any advice on face epilators please

Thank you, do you find it effective on thick dark hairs?

BangingOn · 30/03/2022 12:34

My Lumea worked brilliantly on legs and bikini line but not at all on my face.

I am getting awful spots as the hairs grow back, worst with the JML or the little facial razors. I can’t decide which is worse, the hairs or the spots.

EndaDay · 30/03/2022 12:41

I have the JML flawless but it has lead to stubble for me, so now I have to use it every day.

Wish I'd just stuck to my tweezers.

chinnychinchilla · 30/03/2022 12:42

Do you need to get an epilator specifically for face or can you use a normal one?

Questiontellme · 30/03/2022 12:44

Laser.

Not really they all do the same job. I've had more expensive ones but they feel the same as my current 15 quid from Amazon one.
Pipersouth · 30/03/2022 12:45

IPL treatment at a salon - wish I’d known about it years ago. Pricey but worth it for knowing I haven’t got grandma whiskers anymore (except for 2 pesky white ones!)

Lagarthatheviking · 30/03/2022 12:46

I’m having proper laser hair removal on my chin. It’s £50 per session. I’ve had 7 so far…. Hairs are much finer and lighter, much much less noticeable…
If you can afford then I’d recommend, not as a magic cure but certainly helped a lot.

YoYoYoYoSup · 30/03/2022 12:48

Go to a quality salon and get it waxed initially then lasered. Overall it'll be cheaper than buying useless gadgets etc.

Chely · 30/03/2022 12:49

Facial wax strips (cheap are fine), tweezers for stubborn ones, peel off face mask for peach fuzz.

UseOfWeapons · 30/03/2022 12:56

I found after the menopause, I had very little facial hair, but I’ve always used a razor without issue.

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 30/03/2022 12:57

Another one who does a quick sweep with a razor every couple of days in the shower. Keeps it in check. Have a good peer at myself in bright light too, and will pluck if any are still visible.

MobLife · 30/03/2022 13:05

Threading! So effective, cheap and quick

Ilostit · 30/03/2022 13:08
