I'm 35 and now can't get away with plucking the odd hair. Stupidly used a razor once and it's grown back stubble under my chin.

I have fine hair on upper lip that don't bother me too much and seem to respond ok to the at home waxing, but the thick black stubble hairs under/on my chin just stay where they are and I can't see/have time to pluck them out one by one (there are a lot 🙈)

Any recommendations? Are some waxes better than others? Thank you

Get laser hair removal honestly you won’t regret it.
It can be expensive but if you find a local college which trains people in level 4 laser hair removal, they’re always looking for clients to use to teach and for students to practice all under the tutors watchful eyes. And much cheaper than what you would find in clinics.

And groupon and those sites do good deals if you dont fancy the college thing.

TheDuchessOfMN · 30/03/2022 13:12

I use a veet facial hair trimmer. It’s very good but unfortunately mine does grow back quite stubbly.

Hertsgirl10 · 30/03/2022 13:12

I mean a proper college not all of these academies you see popping up everywhere, also if you do this then don’t wax before just shave before and in between appointments.

EmeraldShamrock1 · 30/03/2022 13:16

If you can afford laser hair removal then I'd try it.

It grows back eventually saves years of shaving, waxing before regrowth.

perenniallymessy · 30/03/2022 13:19

With epilators, the more expensive ones will be cordless. The biggest problem with the cordless ones is that the batteries eventually die, so go for the cheap and cheerful plug in ones. Something like this would be fine with the small head for the face, or you could try something like this.

I don't find the Lumea crap at all, it just hasn't had brilliant results on my face. The results on my bikini line and legs are fantastic, it's reasonable on my armpits too. And my moustache has also got much lighter. I suspect the dark coarse hairs are just poking through faster than I can zap them..

AnnaSW1 · 30/03/2022 14:03

I love my Lumea. It's better than salon laser for me

RandomBasic · 30/03/2022 14:08

NB laser won't work if you are dark skinned, and won't work well if you are fair skinned with light blonde body hair.

FourChimneys · 30/03/2022 14:12

Tweezers. Two minutes twice a week and it's done.

There is a certain time of day when the light is perfect in our bathroom so I do it then. At other times the hairs are not visible but I find impressive ones at the magic time which is weirdly satisfying Grin

GarlandsinGreece · 30/03/2022 14:13

A daily cup of spearmint tea really does reduce facial hair.

And laser hair removal is fantastic.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/03/2022 14:22

I'm having laser on my face. Noticed a difference almost immediately. Am half way through my treatment course and the difference is amazing!

Toddlerteaplease · 30/03/2022 14:23

8 laser treatments were half the price of a lumea.

Vapeyvapevape · 30/03/2022 14:26

@peachescariad I bought a Flawless and it's useless ! Takes absolutely nothing off . What am I doing wrong?

Frazzlerock · 30/03/2022 14:27

@MedusasBadHairDay I also have pale skin and dark hair but, like I say, I have PCOS hormones so that is probably why it didn't work for me.

Maybe worth a go, but it's an expensive way to find out. Do you have a friend with one you could borrow for a few treatments, just to see?

I have PCOS too so that's not looking too promising

Newnamefor2022 · 30/03/2022 14:34

Lumea works brilliantly for me. From reading similar threads, the Lumea seems to work really well for the majority of people who post but has no affect on a few. I have no idea why. I'd recommend giving it a go but I know it is expensive.

Thewindwhispers · 30/03/2022 14:43

Same problem here. Things I have learned over the years:

  • laser works for people who do not have a hormone imbalance, but if your hair growth is caused by hormone issues (eg PCOS) then laser will stimulate more hair growth in other follicles and make the overall problem much worse 😭
  • electrolysis works very well and is a permanent solution but is not cheap and it can be tricky finding a reputable provider (as so many people want laser instead that there isn’t much demand for electrolysis).
  • losing weight / eating better improves the issue as fat stores the hormones.
  • very excessive hair chin growth on women can be a sign of underlying medical problems and it’s worth asking your GP to check hormone levels / scan for ovary tumors. There is a procedure called ovarian drilling which apparently helps, as it zaps the part of the ovary that isn’t working properly.

I currently shave twice a day. Those suggesting waxing and tweezing have a very mild version of this problem!! I could go full on goatee, if I was tweezing I’d be looking at a few hours work each week. But my issues are damaged ovaries that can’t produce enough hormones 😔

newtb · 30/03/2022 14:48

Even post menopause the levels of oestrogen should be enough to prevent this. Or do my endo told me. Only problem is, with an underactive thyroid, I need to lose about 15kg for that to happen.

stealthninjamum · 30/03/2022 14:53

I’ve had electrolysis for my dark chin hair. It’s fantastic. I had three sessions last year and I haven’t had a single hair since in about four months.

Seenoevil1 · 30/03/2022 14:55

Yes I have hair on upper lip and peach fuzz on jaw area...I use Avon facial hair removing cream. 8t is excellent and very mild. I've noticed my moisturiser is absorbed better once I've got rid of the fluff/fuzz Star

bluebellsandcustard · 30/03/2022 14:58

So pleased to hear I'm not the only one suffering 😭

I shave, and laser at a salon monthly.

ItsYabbaDabbaDoTime · 30/03/2022 15:03

Use Immac bikini line for tough hairs - apply Savlon afterwards

EatSleepReplete · 30/03/2022 15:08

I'm getting electrolysis at present for my facial hair. I had my chin done, it's now nearly sorted with just a few strays left, now the area under my chin, then I'll get my sideburns done. I've had 5 or 6 visits, 15 minutes each. Wish I'd done it in my 20s, apparently plucking causes more of the thick hairs to grow, not sure why but the woman who does mine said the light coloured hairs are caused by plucking, the dark ones are hormonal. I had loads of pale ones on my chin & none on my cheeks so it does make sense.

I won't lie though, electrolysis isn't comfortable. And it's been absolute psychological torture not to pluck over the last several weeks...

Longingforatikihut · 30/03/2022 15:21

In the past I've:
Tweezed
Threaded
Depilatory creamed
Jolened
IPL'd
Electrolysis'd
Waxed
...

This list is endless.

Now I use a combination of tweezing (the course and dark hairs). Electric bikini shaver on the fuzz. Wax on my tash and eye brows.
I generally tweeze 2-3 times a week. Shave weekly. Wax every 2-4 weeks.

latetothefisting · 30/03/2022 15:38

Agree with other posters that the lumea doesn't work on the face, even though I'm pale with dark hair (and hairs!)

I use those dermaplaning mini razors in pretty colours so I feel slightly less like a man sorting out his 6 o clock shadow!

Philips lumen and laser removal in a salon. Life changing.
