Aibu? What do single mums do with coronavirus when have no one to help?!

OP posts:
ChiselandBits · 28/03/2022 20:15

Now? Go out. Wear a mask and try not to be in enclosed spaces if possible but if you need to get your child to school or buy food, then go.

AHungryCaterpillar · 28/03/2022 20:15

Don’t need to isolate anymore 🤷‍♀️

ArtVandalay · 28/03/2022 20:17

You don't have to isolate, so you need to manage it as you see fit.

Sleepyblueocean · 28/03/2022 20:21

If you need to go out, you need to go out.

Porcupineintherough · 28/03/2022 20:24

Shop online or go out and infect people. Your choice.

Partyatnumber10 · 28/03/2022 20:26

Get groceries delivered or do click and collect.
Wear a mask, stay outdoors and keep your distance when dropping the kids at school/activities.
Stay home based as much as you can.
It's only really for a few days now isn't it?
Hope you feel better soon.

MichaelAndEagle · 28/03/2022 20:26

I've just tested positive. I had my grocery shop just in luckily.
Did get some paracetamol etc delivered by deliveroo today.
My children are old enough to walk themselves to school.
But if they weren't I'd have to go out and do that wouldn't I. Just take care not to get too close to people if possible.

Massivecoffeecake · 28/03/2022 20:41

I went out a couple of times for urgent pharmacy runs i double masked and kept away from others. Ie I didn't purposely stand by someone at a shelf etc.

You have to do what you have to do.

HRTQueen · 28/03/2022 20:43

If unable to get a delivery go out abs wear a mask

Thousands are walking around positive and spreading the virus

A virus. Not the virus. A virus.

Depends where you are.

In Scotland we still have to isolate. I hate on here how everyone assumes the op is in England. There’s other places besides England

Noonecaresifyounamechange · 28/03/2022 20:52

How do single parents manage when they have the cold/ glandular fever/ mumps/ whooping cough?

Newnormal99 · 28/03/2022 20:53

I dropped at childminder / breakfast club but stayed in car. The days I did an actual school run I arranged for childminder to just walk my dd to/from her house and I met there.

Food shop I managed to get a delivery slot for next day and stocked up.

ExMachinaDeus · 28/03/2022 21:02

Wear a mask if you HAVE to go out to get food, or for your children. And try to keep 2metres away from people. Tell anyone you are in conversation with that you are covid- infected so they can distance from you.

But now might be the time to call in favours.

Covid is still putting people in hospital - at the highest rates since this all started ….

Isonthecase · 28/03/2022 21:07

I was in that situation, had to collect the kids so I called ahead to warn nursery and wore a mask.

I hate it when people dont grasp the make up of the UK - over 90% of the UK population DO NOT live in Scotland. Its fairly safe to assume that the OP lives in England.
Meadmaiden · 28/03/2022 23:39

What do you need?

You can get food deliveries from supermarkets, Uber eats, deliveroo and other services. Your neighbours would most likely help you too.

DogStrummer · 28/03/2022 23:45

Treat it like a cold, because that's what it is.

If you have to go out, go out.

😂 at this. We can get supermarket deliveries here, but only with a few days notice (nearest supermarket is 30 minutes away). No Uber eats, deliveroo, not even a Chinese takeaway or fish and chips for collection.

You have to do what you have to do. Essential trips only. Wear a mask. Be mindful of others. But you have to eat and get medicine.

ididntevennotice · 28/03/2022 23:53

Can't wait for OP to reveal she is in Wales Grin

RetireReady · 29/03/2022 00:03

After 2 years...now you are asking this???

anotherneutralname · 29/03/2022 00:07

This has been us for the past week. Tesco delivery, milkman (how glad am I that I kept that up after lockdowns for this situation?!), and a LOT of screens to keep DC distracted.

All DC positive too, so on bright side no school / nursery runs to cover; on other side, the days of looking after everyone are very loooooong while feeling rough. We all seem to be coming out the other side of it now, hopefully. I am very thankful that although it was pretty horrid, I haven't been severely ill, so it's been possible to take care of everyone myself still.

What particularly worries you, maybe some of us could try and think of ideas?

JosephineMarchingOnwards · 29/03/2022 00:10

“😂 at this. We can get supermarket deliveries here, but only with a few days notice (nearest supermarket is 30 minutes away). No Uber eats, deliveroo, not even a Chinese takeaway or fish and chips for collection”

Same here
Not all of us live in or near big cities. (And the soonest Tesco can deliver is 8 days, Asda can deliver in 2 days - at unsociable times, or 4 choosing a good time slot)

I have a fab pharmacy who deliver to me and try and use deliveroo and paper plates cos no one else will do any dishes.
aibutohavethisusername · 29/03/2022 00:30

When you record your positive test to NHS it asks if you need support.
