Treat it like a cold, because that's what it is

This attitude really pisses me off. For some people its like a cold for others it's a damn sight worse

I'm on day 9 & wish it felt like nothing more than a bloody cold

ChiselandBits · 29/03/2022 07:17

deuxexmachina that is simply not correct. There are high numbers in hospital for other reasons who also happen to have Covid. It is incidental to them being in hospital. At the weekend, there were 90% fewer people in ICU than 2 years ago. Because vaccines, and less severe strains now circulating. This is not 2020 and we cannot keep operating as though it is. Nor do we need to.

ididntevennotice · 29/03/2022 07:51

@Phormiumjester2

A virus. Not the virus. A virus.

I think 'the virus' works when you are talking about a specific virus. So when the poster you quoted said 'Thousands are walking around positive and spreading the virus' I think the virus works. It is completely in context that in a thread about a specific virus.

Maybe it's one for pedants corner?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 29/03/2022 07:54

Just go out.

Me too. Day 4 and I feel like shite. It's nowt like a cold I've ever had.
megletthesecond · 29/03/2022 08:24

If it's a walk or the school run in the fresh air then go out.

I wouldn't go to a shop though.

gogohm · 29/03/2022 08:35

@BakedTattie

If you are in Scotland, how are you meant to get groceries then? I went shopping when I had covid nearly 2 years ago because it was that or go hungry, not everyone lives in cities or has friends nearby (I had moved 4 weeks earlier!) especially in Scotland with isolated areas. Deliveroo doesn't operate in rural areas!

SartresSoul · 29/03/2022 08:39

Shop online or go out I guess, there’s no legal requirement to isolate anymore.

shouldisay · 29/03/2022 08:55

Go out and get what you need. Just mask up and keep your distance and I say this as person who is in Scotland and still meant to be isolating but caught coronavirus and needed to get food and medicine. It was either that or we all went hungry.

amy85 · 29/03/2022 09:35

I got food delivered and kept my youngest two off school because I had covid, eldest had covid too so had to stay off anyway but would have probably sent him in if he didn't as he is year 8 so more independent

tempester28 · 29/03/2022 10:15

You have to just carry on - but yes put a mask on

BakedTattie · 29/03/2022 10:19

@gogohm

I used snappy shopper and local deliveries. Also asked friends, neighbours etc to help.

That wasn’t the point i was making though. We still have to isolate in Scotland.

This is a UK website, why should we just assume the op is in England. Doesn’t matter the population percentage. The UK doesn’t mean England.

I realise there are different areas of the UK so I try to know what the laws and rules are in difference areas. Because you know, you don’t all live in England 🙄

BakedTattie · 29/03/2022 10:21

That last point was in relation to what @Katies55 was saying

Ihaveoflate · 29/03/2022 10:31

I'm not a single parent but both of us have COVID and we have a toddler who goes to nursery.

We did a click and collect shop at the supermarket and haven't gone inside anywhere (apart from our house). But we have gone outside for walks or to parks. We have stayed away from other people or worn a mask. One of us had to drop at nursery so husband wore a mask and stood outside the building (child is negative on LFT).

It's not illegal to go out and about but we've tried to do it responsibly. It must be really hard on your own.

zingally · 29/03/2022 13:29

I'm at home with it at the moment as well.

Did a positive test on Friday afternoon, and positive ever since. I was starting to get a bit under the weather on Thursday, but went to work then, and Friday.
I got an online tesco delivery Saturday morning. But other than that, have stayed at home. Now I've just got a low-level head ache and general tiredness. I'm a zero hours contract worker though, so am not currently getting paid. Crossing my fingers that I can get away with returning to work, masked, on Thursday, or worst case, Friday.

esloquehay · 29/03/2022 13:31

I'm a single Mum to twin pre-schoolers. Socially isolated and no family.
What did I do when we all had CoVid recently?
Kept the twins off school and shopped online.
😎

Redglitter · 29/03/2022 13:35

If you are in Scotland, how are you meant to get groceries then

Online or with help from family/friends Certainly where I am theres absolutely no problem getting slots

traveste · 29/03/2022 18:33

Thank you everyone I went and did a big shop with masks on kept away from people as much as possible I felt like I was on supermarket sweep rushing round as quick as I could 🤣 I know it's not law to have to isolate I just felt it was a shitty thing to do to go out knowing I have it , and wondered what the general opinion would be , luckily we hardly have many symptoms but I know some people have it hit a lot harder ! I hope those of you with covid are feeling better soon as poss xx

You did what?? Seriously?! Why ask if you were going to do such a selfish thing.

You asked how to get food, and lots of people suggested how to do so without going out. Going into an enclosed space with a highly infectious illness is incredibly selfish, especially as it is totally avoidable.

While that’s great on the face of it, numbers are going up.

Why are people so happy to leap on the idea of carrying on as 2019, when we have a new virus in the mix?
We need clean indoor air in our work places and schools. The ideas of millions of more people getting a virus which is not like a cold for many people, has long term damaging side effects which we don’t fully understand yet (even for those with mild cases) is appalling!

traveste · 29/03/2022 22:09

@Meadmaiden I didn't ask how to get food I asked what other people were doing , yes I am fully aware how to get food i do live in the world also . I was asking what other people did and many replied with other suggestions none of which were available to me , hence asking ! Not sure if you read many other people said they have been out if they had to . I wouldn't have asked if I didn't have to and I would have already used any delivery service I could have if possible .

Is there really not a single person in the world you could ask? No neighbours? Do you not have any friends, or even any acquaintances?

This sort of behaviour is incredibly selfish. Plenty of others have said so too.

@DogStrummer actually get in the bin with this comment. Covid is NOT like a cold, I’ve never felt so awful in my days!
