Not had the booster yet

Has anyone else not had the booster yet? I had a terrible reaction to moderna 2 - was ill for nearly 2 weeks and it really scared me. This was in august and it really put me off not having a booster. I also had covid and was very ill in March 2020 so the 2 things could be linked.

I feel like covid is circling me again though and I do really need to get boosted but I am, to be honest, really scared of getting it. I had some really horrible symptoms after the 2nd moderna- terrible brain fog, random pains, flu symptoms, racing pulse headaches etc -obviously much like having covid again.

Can anyone talk me down a bit? Aibu to feel scared or should I just crack on? Would I have any immunity left from covid & the first lot of jabs?

It's just a few days v potentially losing the rest of your life.

Worryinglyworried73 · 28/03/2022 13:21

Well yes but my reaction was really extreme and I am very worried about it!

The booster is a different drug to the first two. So it won't be Moderna this time.

Katiekat84 · 28/03/2022 13:22

@Worryinglyworried73 I don't think you are being unreasonable I had 2 pfizer vaccines and the moderna booster.... I didn't have any reaction to the first 2 but I have never been so ill as I was after the booster 40° fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, and relentless shivering and aches for 24 hours. It made me think twice about vaccinating my kids however eventually I decided that they were safer with it than without so essentially I'm saying I know how you feel and whatever decision you make will be right for you x

MyDcAreMarvel · 28/03/2022 13:23

Just have Pfizer as the booster.

TopCatsTopHat · 28/03/2022 13:23

It is weird to willingly take a course of action that you know will likely make you sick for a while. It's a feeling of dread. Lots of things you do cos you must /know they're good for you but also that you're going to hate it. From chemo to smear tests, and this is in that category I think.
I sympathise. I felt similar, dithered booking it but did then before my appointment I caught it for real. Suspect I got the omicron version as I wasn't very ill with it but figured that was my booster done so cancelled my appointment.so I have no advice for you other then a sympathetic pat on the arm and some solidarity.

ILoveMyMonkey · 28/03/2022 13:26

I had a Moderna booster after two Pfizer vaccines. I didn’t have any reactions to Pfizer but was so I’ll after the Moderna which took a week before I felt normal again. It completely put me off having any more Moderna vaccines if we are encouraged to have a second booster.

You could try and find someone giving Pfizer as a booster and hopefully you won’t have a reaction to that?

MyDcAreMarvel · 28/03/2022 13:26

@TopCatsTopHat but figured that was my booster done so cancelled my appointment why would you think that? Having Covid does not protect in the same way a booster does.

PurpleDaisies · 28/03/2022 13:29

@RampantIvy

The booster is a different drug to the first two. So it won't be Moderna this time.
Not necessarily. It depends what they have in stock.

I felt rotten after jab two and just had a sore arm after the booster. It’s not guaranteed you’ll have have the same reaction.

thefootballcoacheswife · 28/03/2022 13:30

Me. I was due to have it then had an accident. I now don't have time to potentially be ill after having it. That said I'm very symptomatic today though still testing negative so I might have just screwed myself over there if I get it really badly Confused

mrsbitaly · 28/03/2022 13:31

I was given a choice when I went for booster

Colddayinthesun · 28/03/2022 13:48

I had two AZ early last year. I Haven't had anymore and won't be unless something dramatically changes in the stats. No one I know has got off any lighter from being jabbed up to their eyeballs (compared to unjabbed friends and acquaintances) and too many have suffered lasting side effects from the jabs. For me, weighing it up, at the moment, I'll be declining any further vaccinations .

DressingPafe · 28/03/2022 13:51

Colddayinthesun has said word for word my view on this. I really can't add any more.

teaspig · 28/03/2022 14:00

It won't necessarily be a different one @RampantIvy I've had 5 Pfizer now- 3 main and 2 boosters

RampantIvy · 28/03/2022 14:10

I stand corrected then. Maybe it is because you have a medical need that you have had all the same? Most of us have just had two the same, then a different one for the booster. So just three in total.

Herald44 · 28/03/2022 14:16

I was the same OP. Didn't bother getting booster. Have had covid and it was fine. In fact I was far less ill than my boosted friends. I'm in my 30s, low risk and can't see any clinical need to be boosted at this point. I will consider it in future if a more dangerous variant develops.

LuaDipa · 28/03/2022 14:16

Similar to pp’s, I was fine after two AZ, but felt quite poorly after the Moderna booster. But on the plus side, my kids had Covid after Christmas (they had only had the first vaccine at this point) and dh and I didn’t catch it in spite of not making them isolate from us so in my book it was well worth it.

At the end of the day, it’s entirely your choice but seeing how poorly ds was with Covid I would take my few days illness with the jab instead of his 2 weeks in bed, too poorly to even eat (unheard of for my ds) any day.

Perfect28 · 28/03/2022 14:20

I would be more worried about getting covid.

SartresSoul · 28/03/2022 14:27

DH didn’t bother with it either, he didn’t see the point. We all had covid in December and it really wasn’t serious for us at all, we’ve had much worse colds. He watches a cardiologist on YouTube who basically said the risk of myocarditis is higher in young men than risk of covid as well which swayed him.

Iheartmysmart · 28/03/2022 14:28

I was incredibly poorly after both of my original AZ jabs and Moderna booster and am still suffering from some side effects over 3 months after my last one. Several friends have had Covid and it’s not made one jot of difference whether they were vaccinated/unvaccinated.

Hotpinkangel19 · 28/03/2022 14:29

I had both the jabs. No boosters and i don't want them either.

miltonj · 28/03/2022 14:31

With covid mutating all the time, it seems unlikely that the booster will offer much protection at this point. I wouldn't bother OP. I got the first two.

Xpologog · 28/03/2022 14:57

You’ll get a different vaccine for the booster. I had a reaction ( not severe but noticeable) for first two, no reaction at all to booster.
Vaccination clinics are accepting walk ins and you can discuss your concerns with the vaccinator.
Yes, side effects can be horrible but the illness can be so much worse.

PurpleDaisies · 28/03/2022 14:59

You’ll get a different vaccine for the booster.

How do you know this? I’ve had three the same. It just depends what they’ve got in that day.

SilverHairedCat · 28/03/2022 15:02

I've always understood the immune response to a vaccine to be essentially a mild version of the disease itself - albeit I know its not a live virus, so don't come for me.

My theory, probably bullshit, is that if I'm that rough with the jab (and I am always rough with the flu jab and all 3 x covid jabs), then just how sick would I be if I got flu or Covid? Much rather a shitty 24hrs of fever, shakes and insomnia than ending up in hospital on a ventilator.
