Fantastic Mother's Day

After all the depressing Mother's Day threads - can I just say I have had a lovely day! ( We have never been big celebrators - My mum just wanted a phone call or a card - to forget both was a heinous crime and the tradition has followed!)

I have 2 DSs.

Started with a Mum don't forget you lost an hour in bed so don't get up yet!
Cup of tea appeared about an hour later.

Lunch was one of them walking to Wenzels and coming back with sausage rolls and a bag of my favourite flavour crisps. We sat and ate them together.

A hug and kiss and Mum you really are the best and another cup of tea.

Then heard the eldest 13 say to the youngest 10, in the kitchen - don't over do it, that is enough she hates a fuss. All she wants is a hug and kiss!
We can pour her a glass of wine later if she has any in the house- that will do!!

No expectations, no disappointment and a whole lot of love.

Aw, that's lovely! I got a card and choccies - and a hug - bliss!!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 27/03/2022 19:26

DD walked the dog which meant I got a lie in, I cooked lunch for my mum and sister, sister got pudding, nice chilled day, sun was shining

User7312019 · 27/03/2022 19:29

Mine are too little to do anything themselves but I hope they grow up to be as thoughtful and considerate as yours!

Been throughly treated by my husband though taken out for breakfast and a walk, card, chocs and flowers so they have a good role model for the future hopefully!

So pleased to see a nice thread about Mother’s Day as I want to gush about my son! I wasn’t expecting anything either but kind of hoping he’d at least get me a card … we’ll instead he bought me a beautiful bunch of flowers, a big box of chocolates and took me out to a nice restaurant for lunch. He’s 23 and it was just me and him which was lovely, good quality time together ❤️ They’ll be no expectations next year either, it means so much more when they do it off their own back rather than fulfilling expectations

Finallylostit · 27/03/2022 19:29

Salt and vinegar is my favourite -they both are heathens and don't like them. But for me they sat and ate some - so we shared our lunch properly.
The look on their faces was a gift in itself!

I've had the best one too. My 4 year old said mummy you stay in bed and ill get you a mother's say snack. He came back with a kiwi, dates and ritz crackers 🤣. The whole day was great my best one yet! Definitely is more special when the kids are aware.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 27/03/2022 19:40

Ive always told my children that i just want a card

So had ds1 here with his partner and ds2, dd couldn’t come back

But ive had a little walk, a lovely lunch, drinks on the balcony, a few games….a card from dd, one from ds1 and a card and little candle from ds2 (ds1 is cheesed off at ds2) and now for some obscure reason dh has put zootopia on

But apart from that last bit ive had a lovely day 😀

CreepyDibillo · 27/03/2022 19:50

I am more than happy with my card, chocolates and cuddles 😊 No need for the grand gestures or expectations on an overly commercialised occasion.
Glad you had a lovely day too!

Hunderland · 27/03/2022 20:18

I had card, chocolates, flowers from DC who are here and a call from DS1 who is away.

DH cooked a roast.

The only think that could have improved it would have been bacon sandwiches for breakfast!!

Ineedastyleicon · 27/03/2022 20:21

Lovely! My 14 year old made me a cuppa and breakfast in bed. Husband cooked roast and cleared up. Got some nice presents and a card. 10 year old has even given me a hug which is rare these days!

daffodilsbluebells · 27/03/2022 20:24

Great day here too, flowers, chocolate and coffee in bed, lovely handmade card, bacon sandwich at brunch, lovely sunny trip to the park and dh cooked dinner.

The kids are not under 5s though, it's taken a few years to get expectations worked out.

HTH1 · 27/03/2022 20:27

I had a good day too: breakfast in bed, homemade card, flowering plant, Jo Malone candle and a nice lightweight jumper which I wore out to lunch, then pink champagne later.

Strawberry0909 · 27/03/2022 20:30

Lovely day, DP had got photo cards from both DS (3years and 5 month old) also had handmade card from DS made at preschool and a couple little presents and some nice child free time to potter in my greenhouse and go for a walk with own DM

AFS1 · 27/03/2022 20:30

Daughter (13) painted me an amazing picture that she’d worked on in secret. Son made a card in Beavers. DP got me flowers and chocolates. I bought food for posh m and s roast dinner, but partner cooked it all while I lay on the sofa and read a book. Oh and I had the chance for a swim.

My mum died 20 years ago, so having dreaded Mother’s Day for years, just having it acknowledged is enough to make me happy.

Youdoyoutoday · 27/03/2022 20:31

I had a lovely day too, lay in, woken to card and chocolates, fry up, wonder round a local park, 3 course meal at one of my favourite restaurants! 1 happy mummy here!

Youdoyoutoday · 27/03/2022 20:32

Did have a little cry over my mum who died 2 years ago but my ds gave me a nice big hug and said we all miss nanny!! Love him!!

RustyBear · 27/03/2022 20:32

I had a lovely thoughtful present from DD. I've always regretted that I didn't have a really nice picture of me & my mum together on my wedding day- in all of them, one or other of us looks bad (neither of us photograph well) DD took the best photos of each of us & created a lovely new one of us together, and gave it to me in a double frame with one of me and her at her wedding last year- I was so pleased. She and DS also took us out to lunch and we had a lovely family photo session afterwards.

TupilaLilium · 27/03/2022 20:33

My 18 and 16 year olds bought me little presents for the first time ever. I suspect DS18 gf gave a nudge and 16 year old felt he should step up too. I am delighted and told them so. Kids and I had a glass of wine in the sun.

National Trust with little one, and DH made a nice meal and we all sat around the table together.

A lovely day and more than I expected.

CatsLikeBoxes · 27/03/2022 20:34

My 16yr old went to buy ingredients, tye cooked me pasta and a a delicious home made sauce for lunch. Later she roasted garlic and made garlic bread topped with mozzarella. And then this evening she made chocolate biscuits, some of which were cut into hearts. 13yr old gave me a hug and told me "acts of service" is not her love language Smile

Sirzy · 27/03/2022 20:35

Aww sounds perfect.

Ds is autistic and has proudly proclaimed he loves me 365 days a year so doesn’t need a special day to show me! But I did manage to get him out for a walk with me before which was lovely.

oliviastwisted · 27/03/2022 20:40

Managed expectations makes for a fantastic Mother’s Day. I’ve had a fantastic day too OP Grin.

Ripasso · 27/03/2022 20:44

I spent the day with my son vomiting, my husband forgot to take my card to my parents but I’ve had the best day as I spent it with my mum. In October we found out her bone cancer had spread to her brain and she was so sick at Christmas we thought it was the end. Today we had a lovely normal day at home that I will treasure forever. Mum is frailer and tires easily but I am so thankful to have this time with her enjoying my children.

Squareteabags · 27/03/2022 20:46

I had a hug from my teenage daughter.

She has autism and generally avoids physical contact. It was a wonderful present.

Momicrone · 27/03/2022 20:48

Nothing wrong with having expectations

rhetorician · 27/03/2022 20:48

Lovely here too. Cards from both children plus flowers and chocolate. And dd (10) made lovely clay models - a bunch of flowers for DP and a tiny book for me (kids have a double burden as they have two mums!). Then take out with MIL who is the least judgemental person about parenting ever having raised 6 hellions herself (eldest is 13 Hmm)

Fantastic Mother's Day
