Fantastic Mother's Day

After all the depressing Mother's Day threads - can I just say I have had a lovely day! ( We have never been big celebrators - My mum just wanted a phone call or a card - to forget both was a heinous crime and the tradition has followed!)

I have 2 DSs.

Started with a Mum don't forget you lost an hour in bed so don't get up yet!
Cup of tea appeared about an hour later.

Lunch was one of them walking to Wenzels and coming back with sausage rolls and a bag of my favourite flavour crisps. We sat and ate them together.

A hug and kiss and Mum you really are the best and another cup of tea.

Then heard the eldest 13 say to the youngest 10, in the kitchen - don't over do it, that is enough she hates a fuss. All she wants is a hug and kiss!
We can pour her a glass of wine later if she has any in the house- that will do!!

No expectations, no disappointment and a whole lot of love.

I have also had the most lovely day. I met my newest grandchild, 11 days old, and my other two littles, dinner with my eldest daughter and her family and flowers and chocs from both my best children. The other two self centred gobshites can go fuck themselves cos I no longer need them in my life and I'm happier because of that.

didnt get a lie in but had peace and quiet with the cat
dh had to go to work to change clocks

dd was at a friends watching 17 concert, she doesnt live at home but rung me a couple of times and instructed ds to give me a hug
no cards but dd bought me a selection bird and blend tea
and ds a wizarding afternoon tea

when dh and ds came home we went to local sicilian restarant and had coffee and italian cakes

now watching Anna and the Apocolypse which has made me laugh out loud.
had a nice relaxing day

My 11 year old son chose and wrote a card that brought tears to my eyes. 'Mum you make everything better, joyful and fun' it's a keeper. 😍

RowanAlong · 27/03/2022 21:34

4 year old daughter wearing nothing but a green Alice band down over her eyes, stumbling into me in the bathroom saying ‘I’m Batman, and I love you, you lovely golden Mummy’

Questiontellme · 27/03/2022 21:39

Yes ours was really lovely (weather helped). Some direction from me but DH went to my fave bakery and delis and picked up some bits, then he did a high tea affair for me and MIL this afternoon, I suggested it but him and DC left me to have a lie in this morn and went to pick it all up. And he remembered to put some champagne in the fridge (leftover from Xmas but at least he remembered!).

DH got DC a comic whilst they were out and DC apparently said we should get one for Mummy too....so I got a nice House & Home magazine (clearly not chosen by DC 😅) which I read in bed with a pot of tea this morning.

Woke up to my favourite chocolates from ds2. Church with both of them, then out to lunch with ds’s plus ds1’s gf and their flat mate (who moved away from home for uni so I kind of cluck over her when she needs it). Card and gift from Ds1, first one signed from the gf as well (I hope I’ll be a non-nightmare MIL one day Grin). Ds2 even mowed my lawn! I’ve had some really difficult Mother’s Days as a single mum, was estranged from my own mum for several years (although we made our peace just pre-covid), so it meant so much to have my house full of these lovely young people this afternoon.

My DC's made a beautiful card. DH cooked me breakfast in bed with tea. Presents followed, then a lovely family day of games & a film. DH cooked a roast. Couldn't ask for anything more! Glad you had a good day op.

Whatafustercluck · 27/03/2022 21:51

Mine has been the worst on record.

But seeing all these lovely posts has cheered me up no end. A lovely thread op, so pleased you've had such a wonderful day and so many others have too 😊

canonlydoblue · 27/03/2022 21:53

Your day sounds perfect!

My children presented me with their cards from school when they got home on Friday afternoon.

Five year old had big plans for breakfast in bed and insisted I take her to the pound shop so she could buy me heart chocolates.

I jokingly asked my husband what he was getting me and he responded with the same thing he's said for the last ten years - well you're not my mother!! He did slip out quietly yesterday and told me not to look in the bag when he returned. Turns out he'd got some fancy bubble bath for me (I do love a bath), but our three year old threw a paddy and he placated her by tipping half the bottle into her bath....

Customary lie in this morning, then presented with heart chocolates on a heart shaped plate. Various children popped in to wish me a happy mothers day and ate my heart shaped chocolates.

Lots more handmade mothers day cards from church then off to my mums for lunch and his mums for tea.

Still haven't had a bubbly bath.

Was I spoilt rotten? Nope. Did I get a bit teary watching my children today and consider myself the luckiest mum in the world? Yep!

It was my first mother's day since having DD and it was an absolute joy spending the day with my baby and having an excuse to treat myself

Plus my own DM took baby out for a few hours yesterday so DD could 'choose' some presents which was a lovely surprise

NauseousNancy · 27/03/2022 21:56

My 4 year old woke up and I heard her say ‘it’s mummy’s day’ on the baby monitor. She tiptoed (loudly) to my room, creeped up and ‘woke’ me with the softest wee kiss on my check and said ‘I love you mummy’.

My heart could have burst!!

MurmuratingStarling · 27/03/2022 22:01

I had an amazing one too. Flowers from DH AND DC. And cards too.. DC came to visit, and we all went to the local pub for a meal and some drinks. Got boxes of chocolates, jewellery, and as I said, flowers too. Also went for a lovely walk by the river.

I have a fab husband and amazing DC who treat me like a Queen. I felt blessed today. Grin

MurmuratingStarling · 27/03/2022 22:07

Thanks for this lovely thread @Finallylostit I am actually sick to death of seeing all the maudlin and misery filled 'mothers day is shit' and 'I hate mothers day' type threads on here. I get that some women are narked at the apparent lack of effort from their husband and children, but fuck me! Compassion fatigue has set in with me now!

Josephsrose · 27/03/2022 22:09

I had a lovely day with my adult sons who came up to visit me, I cooked a huge dinner which they loved, they washed up. When they left, which is usually terrible, the dog laid with me in the hammock.

Newnamefor2022 · 27/03/2022 22:12

I had a lovely day too. I’m glad you enjoyed yours. Flowers

minionsrule · 27/03/2022 22:20

I sent DS (16) a link to a website that does handmade stuff for my favourite football team..... I was suggesting it as an idea for a card.
But ds got me the card, plus a mug and coaster... no input from DH and paid for it himself..... and yes a huge hug 🙂

Darbs76 · 27/03/2022 22:42

My Mother’s Day was made by my 17yr old DS walking into the living room, arms outstretched and said ‘happy mothers day’ and we had the biggest hug. Totally unexpected but so lovely. My 14yr old DD didn’t wish me happy Mother’s Day but hey Ho, can’t have everything!

Mol1628 · 27/03/2022 22:50

We’ve played board games together today. One of my favourite things to do. My children didn’t even bicker it was great.
Also had our favourite drinks and snacks. Couldn’t ask for more.

meow1989 · 27/03/2022 22:54

My ds(nearly 4) came out of nursery armed with a picture of me in a "frame" he drew, and a card plus some daffodils. Then yesterday he and dh went on a "secret mission" from which he came back and happily announced that he and daddy hadn't bought me anything as they hadn't been to the shop. I asked where he had gone then and he informed me he and daddy had gone for a "nose test" (covid test) which is a terrifying new level of deceptionGrin

Lo and behold I was woken with coffee, fudge and a chocolate orange. The we went to see my dps and went swimming where ds rode me round telling me giddy up and holding onto my hair as reins before literally dragging me around by the arm when I stopped to have a lie in the shallow end.

Lovely day Grin

NalPolishRemover · 27/03/2022 22:58

I had a lovely day. 16yr dd came in with a bunch of flowers & 2 cards, 1 she made in school & 1 she'd bought & a box of Turkish delight (my fav)

Then dh brought me fresh coffee & toast & jam & orange juice

Half an hour later he brought me another coffee with an M&S special mothers day yum yum in a box

I lazed around till lunch time. Then we did some gardening & dh cooked us m&s Italian food with wine. Dd & I watched Bridgerton eating ours

It was a perfect, relaxed happy day

My 8 year old set up the living room as a spa - she got out her toy foot spa I got her at Christmas, nail varnishes, make up and face mask. She even put spa music on on YouTube and brought in ornaments to make it look like a spa. She then massages my hands, painted my nails and did my makeup - she is such a sweetie. The other two girls decided to bath all their cuddly toys without me knowing - lovely!

MerchSwyddEfrog · 27/03/2022 23:11

I had a lovely day despite having Covid. My 16 year old ds got me flowers, chocolate and Percy Pigs and even got a card for his sister who has Covid too. My dh had flowers delivered too and made me breakfast in bed. The only thing I couldn’t do was give my ds a big hug as he doesn’t want to catch Covid just before his exams. I did throw him some air kisses and telll him how much I love him and that he will make someone a lovely husband in the future.

JengaNonConfirming · 27/03/2022 23:18

I've had a lovely weekend with my nearly 22 year old DD. She came home on Friday with flowers, Malteasers and lots of Malteaser Bunnies, then she paid for lunch out yesterday. Then this morning, after a lie in, she brought me pastries in bed and we watched an old Midsomer Murder together, before going shopping for holiday stuff.
She's wonderful company and its been a lovely weekend ☺️😍

Isobelslider · 27/03/2022 23:20

I've had a good one too. I got a lie in (not really), breakfast in bed, some nice presents that my kids say they picked but DH says otherwise and then they all fucked off and left me with the house to myself while I binge watched Netflix. Bliss.
