To think tomorrow should be father's day

March is shit, clocks changing is even shitterer (note hospitality is mainly run by women) we don't even get a full 24 hours as mothers day.

I propose swapping with June father's day, football and rugby are over, weather is better and they get the full fucking 24 hours.

I found one on the oven and have changed that forwards - thank you! Need the speaking clock back.

Natsku · 27/03/2022 09:36

Mother's Day is in May in my country, much nicer time for it. Father's Day has the worst timing, it is in November, in the bleak dark days of the dead month when people are saving their money for Christmas spending.

Sux2buthen · 27/03/2022 09:40

For those of us doing the mothering bit alone the lie in won't happen regardless of date nor will any spoiling or relaxing take placeGrin
That being said my tiny kids made my bed this morning while I wasn't looking and that felt lovely to me Thanks

sashh · 27/03/2022 09:49

It's mothering Sunday, it has nothing to do with mothers, it is the day to return to your 'mother church' ie where you were baptised.

Campaign for an actual Mother's day if you want one, most places have it in May.

balalake · 27/03/2022 09:52

Mother's Day and clocks changing are not always the same Sunday. What should change is the antiquated practice of having GMT in winter, at least in England. Farmers are fewer in number than when the current practice resumed in the 1970s, more people work in the evenings now, and Scotland can make its own decision.

WisherWood · 27/03/2022 09:53

@PuppyMonkey

Still laughing at all the people explaining it’s Mothering Sunday not Mother’s Day as if this is any way important or less a load of old bollocks.Grin
The reason I explained it's Mothering Sunday is because it makes the date variable, meaning it won't always coincide with clock change. British Summer Time wasn't introduced until 1916, so centuries after mothering Sunday became a tradition. It's BST that's the culprit, not the timing of mother's day. I'd be happy if we stopped changing the clocks twice a year and treated mothers with respect the whole year round.
SoupDragon · 27/03/2022 09:54

If if has nothing to do with mothers, why is it absolutely all about mothers? 🤔

Things change and it is absolutely now Mother's Day as well as Mothering Sunday.

Which is why Japanese people eat KFC for Xmas dinner.
SoupDragon · 27/03/2022 10:37

Not entirely sure how that is relevant.

sashh · 27/03/2022 10:43

Because it is a misunderstanding that has become a tradition with no link to its original meaning.

ivykaty44 · 27/03/2022 10:45

Mothering Sunday was about the Mother church/parish

The KFC isn't a misunderstanding and neither is Mother's Day/Mothering Sunday. It was a church thing and now it isn't, it just happens to be on the same day.

🤦🏻‍♀️

Did you actually read what I said? It is now not just about "the mother church" it has changed to be about actual mothers (and has been for many, many years)

liveforsummer · 27/03/2022 11:54

I was saying exactly the same thing last night as i worked til 1am which became 2. I don't buy the one less hour of parenting, it's not like they will go to sleep without complaint at the correct time. Definitely dates chosen by a man

liveforsummer · 27/03/2022 11:57

@WetLookKnitwear

YABU the clocks going forward has tricked my DD into getting up at 7 not 6 so I’ll take it.
You know she won't be tired for bed til an hour later tonight though as a result ...
WetLookKnitwear · 27/03/2022 14:47

@liveforsummer I choose to ignore this information Grin

littleangel50 · 27/03/2022 15:21

I second that oh the years when the football season ends and goes direct to euros or world cup bliss I'd swap my mother's day to have a free day to watch a match

WisherWood · 27/03/2022 15:34

Possibly. The date of the Easter festival was decided by a council of men. Mother's day in the UK is linked to the date of Easter. BST is a much more recent thing and the legislation for it was passed solely by men but it would be a bit random the change the clocks in the middle of January. So yes, decided by men but in the list of bad shit men come up with, I'm pretty sure this is just a series of coincidences.

Probably wise . It's 7.35 pm and we're yet to eat 🙈😆

LOL sorry but I doubt there was KFC in 5BC Bethlehem.

It is still a church thing, that's why it is on a Sunday in Lent.

You know Japan isn't a christian country and the Japan-KFC thing isn't a jesus-thing?

Is it really necessary to state 'lighthearted' beside every jokey comment you make on here 🙄😆

Yes I am aware, and of the origins of the KFC eating on Xmas day. And of the small minority of Japanese Christians.

I also know it's not the usual KFC.

It was a brilliant idea but the original idea was to substitute chicken for a roast turkey dinner that a guijin might have for Xmas.
