To think tomorrow should be father's day

March is shit, clocks changing is even shitterer (note hospitality is mainly run by women) we don't even get a full 24 hours as mothers day.

I propose swapping with June father's day, football and rugby are over, weather is better and they get the full fucking 24 hours.

AIBU to think they should bloody cancel Father’s Day 😂😂😂

We went to a family party last night, kids were bored and youngest fell asleep, so around ten I said shall we go now I can’t hold the sleeping child much longer and the response was
“you go and I’ll stay another hour, I only get one night a week”
One fucking night a week ladies, I don’t get one night a month, in 6 months. Tomorrow I’ve declared I am not doing a thing, I give it till about 11am before I start getting hounded.
FYI Before the mumsnetters come at me with pitchforks I am been light hearted about cancelling Father’s Day

[quote SaggyBlinders]Could be worse, Russia and North Korea have it in November.

Not sure Russia and North Korea are the bastions of woman's rights

It's even worse when you're a) a mum and b) it's the first race of the new F1 season in Australia which necessitates getting up at 4am Grin

Yes, yes I know - my choice and first world problems (although thankfully not one we F1 mum fans are facing on Mother's Day this year again) but when you've had a DC ask you in past years, 'can you call me and wake me up' (at 4am because they were away at uni at the time Grin ) Mother's Day weekend is always the one I check first in my diary each year to see if it coincides with the Australian GP!!

To make matters worse, DP usually sleeps through us all going downstairs wrapped in duvets... but Covid has at least spared me that (lighthearted, before anyone jumps on me - I've had it, and in no rush to get it again Sad )

BoredZelda · 26/03/2022 21:59

Well in June you at least get 24 hours.

Better still, do it end of June and get 25 hours.

BoredZelda · 26/03/2022 22:00

*not June, October!

Fairislefandango · 26/03/2022 22:01

What a weird thing to complain about Confused.

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 26/03/2022 22:01

Nope, got to be in this order so that if dads drop the ball on Mother's Day, you can be appropriately half arsed then on Father's Day. Otherwise men will get all the trimmings for their day and slack off in June.

TheBigDilemma · 26/03/2022 22:01

@SaggyBlinders

Most countries have Mother's Day in May.

Mongolia, Luxembourg and Afghanistan have it in June.

It's the 4th Sunday after Lent in the UK, because that's when servants got a day off to go home to their mothers apparently.

It is always in the weekend when most lambs are born. I often wonder if they were celebrating the sacred mothering ewe and then thought oh shit we forgot about the other mother at home!
AragornsGirl · 26/03/2022 22:03

My birthday quite often falls on Father’s Day (it does this year) so I’m quite happy with Mother’s Day in March 😂

This is so true

Possibility of Third World War
Putin pressing the button
Rising cost of living

I know let’s change the date of Mothers Day?

You have too much time on your hands, sorry.

LadyIckenham · 26/03/2022 22:09

@Birkenshock I'm in the same position. Always give up booze and chocolate for Lent and the timing of Mother's Day annoys me immensely.

And there's absolutely no way the catholic guilt instilled in me at my convent school is going to permit me to take Sundays 'off', despite not actually being catholic. MIL, who is actually catholic, does this and I just can't get my head around it.

Gosh Gilly, it's going to keep you busy posting that on every single thread here except those on the aforementioned topics. And we're already losing an hour of sleep tonight! Don't stay up too late now.
Thewindwhispers · 26/03/2022 22:12

Yeah. Plus if father’s day comes first then we can make a fuss of the dad and teach him how to do it properly, so that when mother’s day comes round it isn’t just some lame card.

My DH often totally forgets mother’s day, which doesn’t exactly put me in the mood to do much for father’s day 🤦‍♀️

Tilltheend99 · 26/03/2022 22:19

It’s Mothering Sunday not Mother’s Day so UABU sorry

colouringindoors · 26/03/2022 22:21

No, I love that Mother's day is in the Spring when nature is coming hack to life and there's loads of lovely spring flowers 🌷🌷🌷

Tabitha789 · 26/03/2022 22:25

Nah you got it wrong! June is wedding season!!! Forget that! No matter what there will be something. Keep it to March thanks. It's a shitty time in March and it's something we can do and enjoy.....

elenacampana · 26/03/2022 22:26

@DreamTheMoors

Why do mothers only get a day?

Mothers should get a month, 31 days.

In my entire life with my dad, I never saw him do a dish, wash a shirt, vacuum, dust or do any sort of housework.
But my mum taught school all day, then went home and did the cooking, cleaning, washing, ironing and everything else domestic.
Hardly seems equitable.

One month — 31 days of appreciation & celebration.

I’ve never seen my mum do any of those things 😆. They’re all my dad’s jobs!
SoupDragon · 26/03/2022 22:28

If you swapped them, Father's Day would no longer be 9 months before Mother's Day.

Tulipomania · 26/03/2022 22:33

Mother's Day used to be Mothering Sunday. It has been the same date for centuries and set according to the church calendar, so it changes every year - like Easter.

I'm pretty sure Father's Day is a made-up Hallmark holiday. Only been around for a few decades. We didn't have it at all when I was a kid.

DreamTheMoors · 26/03/2022 22:37

@elenacampana

Good on your dad! 👏 👏👏

Whatafustercluck · 26/03/2022 22:37

Yanbu. An hour less in bed and dh has been so busy helping other people he hasn't been out with the kids to even choose a token gift/ flowers. I've always thought mother's day is during a shitty time of year. This year in particular seems like a massive afterthought for my family. I'm going to bog off to my mum's tomorrow and leave them all to it..

Sometimeswinning · 26/03/2022 22:40

I'm missing something! My dh is the one getting up an hour earlier!! I'm in bed all morning. It shouldn't be women who suffer this.

Loginmystery · 26/03/2022 22:40

Well mine will be shite a year so 23 hours is more than plenty to suffer my selfish lot being selfish as usual.

moonbedazzled · 26/03/2022 22:47

@Idontgiveagriffindamn

Nope. One less hour to parent tomorrow as clocks go forward tomorrow. It’s like an extra present!
😂😂😂 👍 🥳
