to think it ridiculous that India Knight calls her diet easy to follow and compatible with everyday life?

It's bl*dy Atkins all over again and not in the least easy IMO.

Okay so she wants to advocate this kind of diet, but why pretend it's something it's not?

Weight Watchers, now that's a diet easy to follow - one where you are allowed everything within reason and not a ridiculously restricted amount of food

One quote from the Sunday Times magazine today:

"you are allowed all vegetables, apart from potatoes, carrots, peas and sweetcorn" WTF?

Vinegar "allowed, apart form balsamic"

I'm 5'10 and if I was 10 stone (I wish...) I would be a size 10.

She's probably around 12 stone I would have thought.

"Maybe thats great advice for someone young with no medical conditions, no eating disorders, no history of emotional eating, no yo - yo dieting."

sorry but it is good advice for everyone

Celery · 06/01/2008 20:48

This time last year, as a virgin dieter, I attempted India and Nerys' idiot proof diet. I found it impossible to stick to, I was miserable, moody and ultimately didn't lose weight ( because I couldn't stick to it ). I joined Weight Watchers online, discovered it was the right diet for me, and lost 2 and a half stone. I discovered carbs are very very important to me.

Quattrocento · 06/01/2008 20:48

Well she looks pretty overweight to me.

I speak as one who has tried India's book and failed.

Weightwatchers is tons better IMO and no quackery either.

pollypumpkin · 06/01/2008 20:49

celery, same as me
i think everyone's body/metabolism is v. different. how can you exercise without having carbs?

Misdee · 06/01/2008 20:49

hmmmmmm carbs.

i loooove slimming world as have a carb fest a lot of the time.

but not bread.

but eat load sof potatoes, pasta rice etc.

Enid · 06/01/2008 20:50

sorry I dont mean to pick on you Lauren but some of your statements are just not true

"I lose more weight if I derive my calorific intake from natural foods even if they are more calories." no you dont, sorry

Enid · 06/01/2008 20:51

you just know india knight is going to be a right porker in a year or two

food issues anyone

Lauriefairycake · 06/01/2008 20:52

That's my personal experience

That is how I lose weight/maintain weight.

Yes I do, sorry.

Unfortunately you are not in my fridge.

It's true for me, end of.

Diets are individual specific.

pollypumpkin · 06/01/2008 20:53

there is truth in the idea of natural foods being more slimming, even if they are what you might think of as fattening, e.g., home made cake is less fattening than shop-bought - i read that somewhere!

Lauriefairycake · 06/01/2008 20:53

Yes, lots of people have food issues and India Knight talks about hers in the book.

Most fat people do (including me).

Quattrocento · 06/01/2008 20:55

I am 5' 10 also and I am 11 st lbs. This is fairly and squarely into a size 14. Another half a stone and that's into a size 16. India Knight has to be at least a size 16, and over 12 stone. That might still get you into the range of a healthy BMI but it would mean that in practical terms you are overweight.

I hate people trying to make money out of other people's misery. Atkins, WW, India hate 'em all.

Enid · 06/01/2008 20:55

"there is truth in the idea of natural foods being more slimming, even if they are what you might think of as fattening, e.g., home made cake is less fattening than shop-bought - i read that somewhere!"

[bangs head repeatedly on keyboard]

Oliveoil · 06/01/2008 20:55

oh I love India Knight but diets in general are a huge load of shit

eat what you want and don't ban anything then you don't crave

get off your fat arse and do some exercise

That will be £12.99 please (paperback out in Spring)

BrummieOnTheRun · 06/01/2008 20:55

Weight-watchers IS quackery. It encourages you to eat aspartame-filled processed foods with God knows what else added to them to improve the consistency & texture once they've taken the natural ingredients.

If you focus on cooking yourself natural, unprocessed foods, keep sugar and wheat to a minimum, most people will feel fantastic and lose weight.

The 'low fat' industry will, I believe, be proven to be one of the causes of obesity.

Oliveoil · 06/01/2008 20:56

I am 5'9" and 9 and a half stone, size 10/12

never been on a diet IN MY LIFE

if I eat too much crap, my stomach gets wobbly

delete Roses and get off my arse = less wobble

Enid · 06/01/2008 20:58

ww own brand food is truly disgusting

and they encourage you to eat their shitey 'choc' bars

its all bolleaux

Lauriefairycake · 06/01/2008 20:58

Enid, I'm glad you're banging your head repeatedly on the keyboard - maybe it will knock some sense into you

I agree with pollypumpkin, it seems obvious to me that home made cakes will contain less calories, most people put a lot less sugar and salt in home made foods

Restaurant food is normally very highly salted (increases water retention not weight gain)

Surely everyone puts less salt, sugar in home made food??

pollypumpkin · 06/01/2008 20:59

"If you focus on cooking yourself natural, unprocessed foods"
well said Brummie, i believe that does count for a lot
the processing/additives etc. do no end of damage

Oliveoil · 06/01/2008 20:59

diet anything is Frankenstein food

diet cheese? of purlease, fuck off

small amount of Proper Cheese is far better

same goes for eating lettuce for lunch, you will be hungry in 30 mins and raid the biscuit tin

EAT PROPERLY

and don't even get me started on Detox Kits

Lauriefairycake · 06/01/2008 21:00

agree low fat industry causes obesity

Lauriefairycake · 06/01/2008 21:01

Its just obvious, butter, cheese, fatty foods fill you up quicker (if you listen to your body) and you end up eating less of them overall.

Empty calories like low fat yoghurt (but laden with sugar) - seriously, who couldn't eat ten of those?

Enid · 06/01/2008 21:03

yes homemeade cake is nicer and probably healthier but if it has 500 calories a slice and ww shite maltodextrin and sugar syrup cake bars have 500 calories a slice you are going to put on the same amount of weight

if you eat 200 calories worth of carrots you will put on the same amount of weight as you would if you ate 200 calories worth of kitkats

surely no one can argue with that

fishie · 06/01/2008 21:03

her book did help to inspire me, but the actual food bit of it is pile o crap.

Oliveoil · 06/01/2008 21:04

ahhhh, but you can bore everyone at work with the WW bars and carrots until they lose the will to live

I HATE our staffroom atm

thankfully work mainly with men who are sane and whose eyes glaze over at the Lettuce Squad
