to think it ridiculous that India Knight calls her diet easy to follow and compatible with everyday life?

It's bl*dy Atkins all over again and not in the least easy IMO.

Okay so she wants to advocate this kind of diet, but why pretend it's something it's not?

Weight Watchers, now that's a diet easy to follow - one where you are allowed everything within reason and not a ridiculously restricted amount of food

One quote from the Sunday Times magazine today:

"you are allowed all vegetables, apart from potatoes, carrots, peas and sweetcorn" WTF?

Vinegar "allowed, apart form balsamic"

I bought her book last year and lost 18 pounds extremely easily. It's a fantastic low carb diet.

I did weightwatchers 10 years ago and ended up on 18 points a day which made me faint, sick, and I didn't lose any weight because it (me) relied so much on carby foods.

I would never slag off weightwatchers though as I know its different now and it works for some people.

I have a really fucked metabolism meaning if I ate 1000 calories a day of carby food I would put on weight (how fucked up is that ??) but if I ate 1800 calories of meat,cheese,fish,broccoli I lose weight.

Each to their own - really, really impressed with the books and love India Knight, think she's a fantastic writer.

i agree - totally impractical. Also - did you see the photos? they weight 20 stones between them my arse! unless they are 2 foot tall

And its dead easy to follow if you turn away from what the sugar manufacturers want you to buy - thats why I try to stay away from supermarkets cos sugar is added to everything

This is what you're allowed to eat in phase one - FFS there's not even porridge in there!
(I like India Knight btw, but still)

Organic free-range eggs

Any meat you like, but ideally good quality and not too much of processed pork products such as salami

Fish ? any kind you like, from fresh sea bass to canned tuna

Olive oil and groundnut oil

Vinegar ? any kind except balsamic

Sea salt and black pepper

Butter

Double cream

Herbs and spices

Organic peanut butter (sugar free)

Any vegetables you like, except potatoes, carrots, peas and sweetcorn (too much carb for phase one ? the first fortnight). The best vegetables for this diet, in general, are green, so spinach, cabbage, spring greens and so on

Avocados

Lemons and limes

Tomatoes

Unseasoned nuts and seeds

Olives

All sorts of cheese

Tofu

Herbal teas

Unsweetened organic soya milk

I find low-carb diets easy to follow as I dont get weak and shakey on them as I do on all low calorie diets (or any time I eat sugary/carby stuff). Once you know to avoid sugary and starchy foods its very straightforward, as long as you shop appropriately.

is anyone else really disappointed that India Knight had to buy into the whole diet industry at all to start with? It's fairly obvious that for health reasons, it's a good idea to cut down on wine, coffee and chocolate cake, but do we really need another souped up pseudo scientific theory about it?

That's for calling me bonkers Enid.

It's because I have an underactive thyroid and diabetes.

It really is true that if I eat low calorie, sugary, processed foods I put on weight but if I eat natural foods like cheese, fish, green vegetables I lose weight.

Even if I eat more calories.

It's just true.

I looked at this in the paper today with excitement, then my heart sank! No carbs! The oNLY only way i can ever loose weight is to cut out fat and have lots of brown rice/complex carbs (ideally combined with exercise).
Whenever i've tried to cut out carbs i've felt like passing out..... and to combine low/no carbs with exercising too, the mind boggles!

It is that simple though really isn't it? It's just doing it. And I say this as somebody who has to lose 2 stone.

The breakfast suggestions are horrible IMO.

FETA AND RED ONION MUFFINS
CAULIFLOWER-STUFFED MUSHROOMS
INDIAN SCRAMBLED EGGS
BUTTERNUT BACON AND WALNUTS

And the "quick and easy" ones

? Hard-boiled eggs with celery salt
? Roast chicken with pesto mayo
? Roast beef and horseradish mayo rolls
? Small packet of unseasoned nuts
? ½ avocado and peanut butter

Cruel I know but if you go around trying to make money out of diet books, surely you'd take care to be the living proof that they actually work?

Alright Enid I will put it another way.

Due to yo-yo dieting I have to eat in a certain way to lose weight/maintain weight. I lose more weight if I derive my calorific intake from natural foods even if they are more calories.

It is not as simple as eat more and lose weight (for me anyway)

Maybe thats great advice for someone young with no medical conditions, no eating disorders, no history of emotional eating, no yo - yo dieting.

And also, sugary foods cause the fat cells to swell with water, if you eat less sugary foods like cread you shrink fairly dramatically as the cells don't hold onto water.

Actually Quattro I think thats the point, she's normal not sylph-like. A proper normal mum not some mad model.

She dropped from a size 22 to a size 16 - and I think thats a fairly major achievement - thinks she's 5ft 10 and ten stone now.
