Lighthearted/daft one

When someone (Namely DH) catches a big spider in the house then on the way to throw it outside pretends to Chuck it at you.

I hate it, DH always does it and I hate it I lock myself in the bathroom until I know it's gone but even then he's kept it in a glass to show me at times. I'm not a huge wimp don't mind small/medium size spiders and can get rid of them around myself but tonight there was a fucking HUGE spider in the house. I'm talking the size of your palm (maybe light exaggeration but you get the idea) and he as always caught it then stood outside the door teasing me to come out as it had 'gone' while he stood there with the fucker in his hand!! Shock

Eurgh, men are so immature at times haha. Before anyone says LTB he's a fab husband and dad haha.

So aibu to find this annoying

Or

Does anyone else's husbands do this and you hate it!

I don't mind spiders, I quite happily pick them up and drop them outside. But i do mind people trying to frighten me, so i would be bloody furious if anyone tried to scare me with a spider or anything else. Horrible thing to do to anyone. Sympathy to those whose dickhead DHs do this.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 24/03/2022 23:00

@Mollymalone123

When I was a child my eldest brother caught a huge house spider and then chased me with it and then pushed it right under my nose.i was hysterical and spider phobic.however I have in the last couple of years managed to trap them myself and take them out to garden and had to deal with an infestation of false widows last year and I was ok.only taken 50 years 😂
Well done, Molly. Fighting a phobia takes real courage. Star
StrangeLookingParasite · 24/03/2022 23:01

I genuinely see it as DH seeing my weak spot and teasing me.

Because that's what kind people do, try to find a weak spot and tease you.

Oh wait.

Tdcp · 24/03/2022 23:04

My top tip is to get a cat. Mine eats all the spiders in the house. (I do have to clear up the legs sometimes though!)

My cat once gave me a very large and very much alive spider once.

By gave me I mean that she placed it very nicely onto my chest as I was laid down and then ran away very fast.

Bitch.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/03/2022 23:10

Mine is moths

"Oh , BTW there's a huge moth flew in , don;t know where it is now ..."
And I am expected to ^Sleep in This House" Shock

It's like a poem I read in school , the poet is watching what he thinks are swallows , then the tone of revoltion when he discovers they are bats.
That's like me and "Oh pretty butterflies , fuck no they're moths"

@HandlebarLadyTash

Horney spooky little pricks apparently! 🤣🤣🤣 Love that @WeDontShutUpAboutBruno

I hate this, and anything that takes me by surprise. My DP when we first met used to ‘slap’ my thigh in the car (not hard, like endearingly but still gave the shock effect) - it would make me jump and give me an absolute rage. I tried ignoring my rage as I knew he was only doing it as a sign of affection but I ended up snapping at him once and he never did it again 😂

I also had an ex who would just randomly and obnoxiously shout/laugh out of absolutely nowhere and again, just pissed me off by making me jump. He didn’t stop though and thought it was funny to make me mad.. so ex for a reason!

PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn · 24/03/2022 23:22

@Laiste

DH did it once.

My reaction ensured he never did it again.

Same here.

It's march. The females are coming out to get laid.

He's being mean though.

Not with a husband like that, they're not.Hmm
BanditoShipman · 24/03/2022 23:38

Your ‘d’h is either cruel or thick. Which is it?

And as for previous posters parents who have done this to them as children, I can’t even imagine how you coped with that 😢

peachgreen · 24/03/2022 23:49

Sorry but stuff like this in a relationship is just fucking vile. I just don't understand why anyone finds it amusing to upset the person they're supposed to love most in the world.

5YearsLeft · 24/03/2022 23:53

@Firstruleofsoupover

Do spiders do it same way as other species? I watched some ducks today on a duck pond and was glad I was not the female duck. Do the spiders really get on top of one another? What on earth attracts them.
? No, spiders are completely different. They insist on a cinema date first. After, they have an espresso together. Then, they go home together and they both take off all eight pairs of their socks, signifying it’s business time. The lady spider lays back and thinks of England and that’s it.

ACTUALLY, to be fair, sometimes the female kills the male; sometimes the male kills the female. Sometimes, appendages are torn off. Sometimes, orifices are plugged. Occasionally, there are psychedelic rituals. Oh, and don’t forgot the “shrill crying.” I’m not sure we would take toddlers to the park during duck mating season if ducks did it like this.

RachelGreeneGreep · 24/03/2022 23:59

@zurala

Honestly if my husband did this regularly and repeatedly despite being asked not to I'd reconsider our relationship. I'm phobic, and I would consider that abusive behaviour. It's not funny to deliberately make someone scared. My DH doesn't even walk near me when he has a spider, he takes it the opposite direction to avoid me.
I agree. I know someone who fears spiders, they cannot help how they feel. And for anyone to do this, knowing how badly it would upset them, is absolutely awful.

@Bigtom

Mine has never caught a spider or a fly so getting a cat isn’t a guarantee, mine isn’t bothered by them
fluffedup · 25/03/2022 00:03

When my eldest DD was a toddler, she would bring me things that she'd broken while playing with them.

One day she toddled towards me babbling something. She had something black in her hand. 'Oh dear', I said, 'have you broken something? Show it to me' and I held out my hand.

She dropped a large house spider into my hand. I nearly fainted.

KnowingMeKnowingYouAhaaaa · 25/03/2022 00:21

My dad used to do this when I was little, it's partly why I had such a terrible phobia. When I married my husband I said to him if he ever played a trick on me or wound me up with a spider I'd divorce him no questions asked, I was deadly serious too. He's never wound me up and puts any spiders outside no fuss. If he ever wants to push me into a divorce though he knows what to do!

greenlynx · 25/03/2022 00:29

When I see something scary ( in my case it’s not spiders) I can’t control myself at all and react defensively.
PPs mentioned kicking husband’s knee and broking a teacup. It would be my reaction all along — kicking him very badly.

BoredZelda · 25/03/2022 00:31

Yeah. He’s a prick. If my husband did any of this kind of shit, he wouldn’t have made it to husband status in the first place. But, he wouldn’t do it because he is an adult.

peachy3 · 25/03/2022 00:39

I have a phobia and my ex did this to me once. He got a back handed ball slap in return and never did it again. My current DP is luckily mature enough to just get rid of them, he knows how much they make me panic.

3peassuit · 25/03/2022 07:14

YANBU. My DH did it to me once. My reaction to it was so extreme that he’s never done it again. I don’t understand how he’s brave enough to pick the little blighters up in his bear hands, it creeps me out.
The cat is useless at spider control.

Scalottia · 25/03/2022 08:14

@PferdeMerde

Why are so many women scared of spiders?
I am wondering this too, all of the squealing and carry on about a mostly harmless animal. I leave them alone when I find them in the house, they are just doing their job! Also don't get me started on people that kill them. At the very least just try to relocate the poor spider outside!

i dont find it funny

incognitoforthisone · 25/03/2022 15:15

It is absolutely vile to deliberately aggravate anyone's phobia, whether it's spiders or worms or small spaces or whatever.

To those saying 'why all the fuss about a spider' and 'why are so many women scared' of spiders:

  1. A phobia isn't a dislike, it's a really visceral thing, and people can't control their reactions to the subject of a phobia, even when it's totally irrational. Yes, spiders are harmless. So are a million other things that people are phobic about. There are people who have phobias about things as innocuous as buttons or balloons. They can't help it. My mum's friend has a cat phobia and I have an old friend who is extremely afraid of fish. A colleague of mine is seeking treatment for her fear of slugs at the moment.

  2. It's not a uniquely female thing at all. Loads of men are scared of spiders. My ex was absolutely terrified of spiders and my brother's old housemate (who was a former paratrooper) was so scared of them that he wouldn't even look at pictures.
