Actually, I was very polite and said that while it sounded a lovely idea, I knew for a fact that my mam was buying me one (HUGE white lie .. but my lovely ma will corroborate it!). Luckily she asked if I wanted a book instead ... Yes please. She is a nice lady though and the thought was really nice. (I think)

i have no objection to a cheeseboard per se, but afraid i cannot get excited about one as a ...much wanted birthday gift..

got some horror yukky small pots of skin chemicals in admitably swanky box last year
shit, meant to give it to the raffle..

mil,
well she asks and i tell her oh, i would love a bottle of malt and then
..get cheesecloth! cowboy* shirt affair... wtf though really i get all excited every year she does it!

mil and cheese wtf is that all about

*dont worry fashionistas, its now safely in form of gift card

candypandy, I have an exceptionaly wonderful relationship with my MIL.

She knows me very well. I was just rather amused that after being married to her son for 20 years, and never having had a cheese board, she thought that I might have a need for one.

lol at cheese board envy

I'm lucky - my mil buys me fab gifts (usually helped just a wee bit by dh...) but my aunt is another story (desk top telephone number organiser anyone? or maybe a stunning "diary of an edwardian lady" style photo album...?)

I got the cheeseboard with integral tools for Christmas. And I am so not a gadget person. No idea what to do with it - PTA Summer fair?
