Because there are possibly two hundred and eighty five million better things I could be doing with my time. And uh I have a life?!!?? In fact I'm pretty sure lots of people don't even iron the duvet cover (the bit that you actually bloody see! )DH and I got in to a semi serious fight over it last night. He was positively horrified when he saw me putting on a *scream UNironed fitted sheet on the bed. I had spent ages ironing the rest of the bedding (duvet and pillow covers) and two kids' bedding so this royally pissed me off. So, tell me I'm not being unreasonable All you normal folks with your heads screwed on correctly.

I wasn’t aware people ironed any sort of bedding.

LucyLoopyLu · 23/03/2022 20:27

We have lived in our house nearly 2 years and can count on 1 hand how many times I have used the iron.
I would NEVER iron bedsheets.
Life's too short. I would tell him that if he wants it all ironed he can wash, iron and change all the bedding in future. Otherwise keep his thoughts to himself.

TaraRhu · 23/03/2022 20:27

Does anyone know how to fold a fitted sheet? I'm flummoxed..

I posted the video instructions I use at 11.46!
Stravaig · 23/03/2022 20:33

YABVU to iron the duvet cover and pillowcases. As for ironing kids bedlinen, I'm not sure even Mumsnet can help with such antics. Cease your bampottery at once!

ouch321 · 23/03/2022 20:36

Sheets no
Duvet covers yes if I can be bothered

Makeitsoso · 23/03/2022 20:36

YADNBU I’ve never ironed any sheets. Didn’t occur to me! We have a tumble drier, maybe it’s different if you dry clothes naturally? I’m intrigued now….surely it takes forever Shock

user1487194234 · 23/03/2022 20:38

I (or my cleaner) iron everything
Lovely ironed bedding is my favourite thing
I would have it every day if I won the lottery

RoseMartha · 23/03/2022 20:39

I dont iron fitted sheets. I usually iron the duvet cover but only the side that shows

NinaDefoe · 23/03/2022 20:40

Never iron fitted sheets.
I do tumble dry them on their own though (takes hardly any time at all) shake them out & and fold them straight away.

BeanStew22 · 23/03/2022 20:40

@HangingOver

I have never ironed any bedding in my life
^ this. I iron office clothes/smart occasions but seriously- bedding? This is what life is too short for!
AdoraBell · 23/03/2022 20:44

Another ironing hater here. Life is too short to iron bedding. Years ago I had a colleague for ironed towels. Towels FFS.

Tdcp · 23/03/2022 20:56

I work in a launderette (ironing is a big part of the job)... We all HATE ironing fitted sheets and not one of us irons our own Grin

Valances are worse though.

Sparklybanana · 23/03/2022 21:02

My iron gets used once a year if its lucky. I have enough chores that have a consequence if I don't do them and ironing is a chore that doesn't really achieve anything except hours of time lost in your life. It might look nicer, but and the end of the day, no-one else goes into our bedroom, they get screwed up again anyway and if dh cared enough to argue about it, he knows exactly where the iron is and how to use it.

MrsClatterbuck · 23/03/2022 21:10

Haven't ironed sheets for 30 years and never ironed fitted ones. I have to confess that I sometimes take my sheets to the laundrette who do them for me. I have them washed and folded. If I do them myself they dry on the line and then DH helps me take them off and fold them and sometimes straight back onto the bed.

WomblingWilma · 23/03/2022 21:17

Haven’t RTT but don’t ever waste your time ironing duvet covers. I spent years doing it because I hate crumpled beds until I finally woke up to getting bed spreads like this:

www.dunelm.com/product/hamilton-quilted-bedspread-1000181974

I pull it over the pillows and slightly tuck it in under them though as cbarsed to get pillowshams on and off! Gives a hotel bedroom feel. They add extra warmth in winter and we just put a sheet under it for summer and take duvet off.

Never, ever ironed bedsheets though!

Boxowine · 23/03/2022 21:34

Hmm, what’s his mother like?

Yep, I iron everyone's bedding. Children included. I used to iron their sleeping bags when they were babies.

Tbh, I have given up ironing any bed associated stuff. Started by giving up on fitted sheets, then pillow-cases, then a couple of months ago, abandoned ironing duvet cover. No-one has died as a consequence, and I feel quite liberated, if a little sluttish!
Looseleaf · 23/03/2022 22:00

We all iron! DH mostly his shirts, DC help with anything and I’m keen on ironing all bedding and sometimes leaving it folded for a bit as it just looks crisper and nice on . I don’t mind if it’s crumpled either mind you.

Looseleaf · 23/03/2022 22:01

I don’t bother with any brushed cotton ones though as they tend to look fine without

XenoBitch · 23/03/2022 22:02

I ironed mine once (and the duvet and pillow cases too). It felt lush in bed, but was so much effort.

Featuredcreature · 23/03/2022 22:02

I don't iron anything and have never ironed bedding. I think I am insufficiently female socialised.

Theunamedcat · 23/03/2022 22:04

My ex mil irons them

Also tea towels

Life is too short saying that I ironed them once when my sons bought worms home from school the sheets got boil washed line dried and hot ironed just to make sure the mattress was steamed and hoovered a lot we didn't get reinfected though

Fairislefandango · 23/03/2022 22:06

I can't imagine how there can possibly be a big enough difference in 'feel' between ironed and unironed sheets to justify the time it takes to iron them. What's so special about the feeling of a bit of material being extra-flat? Confused I have slept on ironed sheets. It's pretty much the same as sleeping on unironed ones!
