To ask whether you floss your teeth?

I just wanted to try a poll really.

Choose
YABU if you floss less than three times a week
YANBU if you floss more than three times a week

I used to floss (almost) every day but it was the first thing to go when I got pregnant as it made me feel so sick.
I mentioned this to a group of friends and none of them floss but they all seem to have perfect teeth anyway.
So I was wondering how common it actually is.

Do you guys floss your teeth? How often etc.

Never!

NewPapaGuinea · 22/03/2022 06:18

I need to floss, particularly my back teeth otherwise I suffer from gum pain. I’m not strict with it, every other day.

Chocolatejus · 22/03/2022 06:23

I floss every day as I have gum disease and if I miss a day my gums get swollen. My DH never flosses, scoffs loads of chocolate and the dentist always comment what amazing teeth he has Hmm

ColdSeptember · 22/03/2022 06:31

Yes. Every day.

fishonabicycle · 22/03/2022 06:33

I started flossing quite a few years ago as the dentist told me it was actually more important than brushing. I do it every night.

yorkshireteaspoonie · 22/03/2022 06:38

I can't bear actual floss but use teepee sticks and a water pik instead

WhoWants2Know · 22/03/2022 06:39

Yep, maybe not every day but definitely most days. My mouth feels terrible if I don't.

GeneLovesJezebel · 22/03/2022 06:39

Every day.

OverByYer · 22/03/2022 06:40

No I don’t like the feel of it. My teeth are really good so not sure it’s necessary

QueenArnica · 22/03/2022 06:44

I use the floss sticks morning and night as I had bleeding gums once when I visited the hygienist and I was terrified all my teeth would fall out!

No issues anymore and it takes less than a minute Smile

QueenCuntyFlippers · 22/03/2022 06:46

Every day otherwise my mouth doesn't feel clean...and my dentist would tell me off!

WetLookKnitwear · 22/03/2022 06:47

Yes daily
Much better than getting a cavity

PinkSyCo · 22/03/2022 06:48

No. I don’t believe it’s necessary if you brush your teeth well.

Onlyhonest · 22/03/2022 06:48

I do it regularly, say twice a week or so.

CottonPyjamas · 22/03/2022 06:49

I can't stand floss. I have tried, but once had it break off and get stuck between my back teeth, which weirdly triggered a sense of panic in me. My child also started tying it around his room and the hall like some sort of laser grid that would appear during a bank heist.

clary · 22/03/2022 06:49

Every day but I use those stick things as advised by dentist. I am old tho and my teeth are very crap.

JorisBonson · 22/03/2022 06:50

After dinner every day.

popples19 · 22/03/2022 06:50

I do occasionally however it is a new thing for me as an adult so not in my routine. Can I ask what age my children should start? I would like it to just be so routine for them that it doesn't get forgotten.

MrsEricBana · 22/03/2022 06:54

Every single day without fail but dh and kids don't and they have perfect teeth.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/03/2022 06:58

Every day, my teeth are close together and even after brushing really well they aren't properly clean.

Divebar2021 · 22/03/2022 07:01

My teeth are pretty crowded and I’ve had lots of issues with cavities etc. I now use a water flosser which my dentist thinks is not as good as proper floss but which I find easier to navigate between the tight gaps. I think it’s better than not flossing at all which was what was happening. I use it everyday.

AussieMozzieMagnet · 22/03/2022 07:05

I floss twice daily (after breakfast) and in the evening. At night and sometimes in the morn I follow up with a water flosser as well to get that extra clean feel.

Only floss the teeth you want to keep ;-)

ThatsNotItAtAll · 22/03/2022 07:10

I'm pretty sure flossing is for your gums not teeth.

Perfect teeth are neither use nor ornament if they fall out due to gum disease.

Most people don't have a problem with their gums until 40+ but pregnancy can trigger it earlier.

ThreeRingCircus · 22/03/2022 07:15

I have never flossed but after my pregnancy with DD2 my gums started bleeding and my dentist said I have gum disease. So far not very seriously but I needed to start flossing for gum health so I have a few times a week but not every day. My teeth are close together and I find flossing quite difficult.....if anyone has any recommending for products they use for teeth that are tightly packed in I'd be interested to hear!

Honeymint · 22/03/2022 07:15

I’m so surprised by the 51/49% split in the vote! I don’t know what I expected but that’s it’s so even is so interesting.

@popples19 I’d like to know this as well. I started as an adult but it does seem like it should be introduced when you’re young? I don’t remember dentists even mentioning it to me until I was much older.

I find floss is too thick for my teeth so I use dental tape or the little interdental stick thingies. Every time I use a water pick, water goes everywhere so I gave up 😂
