To ask whether you floss your teeth?

I just wanted to try a poll really.

Choose
YABU if you floss less than three times a week
YANBU if you floss more than three times a week

I used to floss (almost) every day but it was the first thing to go when I got pregnant as it made me feel so sick.
I mentioned this to a group of friends and none of them floss but they all seem to have perfect teeth anyway.
So I was wondering how common it actually is.

Do you guys floss your teeth? How often etc.

I use a water flosser in the morning and normal floss (if I remember) before bed.

I had an over ruptured wisdom tooth so used to get allsorts stuck in there before it was removed, and just stuck with the habit.

youngestisapsycho · 22/03/2022 14:17

I use a water flosser mainly, twice a week.

kylie127 · 22/03/2022 14:21

Rarely

Thestoppedfan · 22/03/2022 14:24

Every night. I have a retainer and I make sure my teeth are the cleanest they can be before putting it on. My dentist told me if you ever think flossing isn’t worth it then to floss your back teeth then smell it, grim.

ApricotArcade · 22/03/2022 14:25

Never.

Chouetted · 22/03/2022 14:26

No. i tried but couldn't physically get the floss in between my teeth, so gave up.

They haven't fallen out yet.

readyshreddiescook · 22/03/2022 14:34

Every day without fail.

honeyfox · 22/03/2022 14:34

Every night. It's amazing what you find in there, ick.

MangoLipstick · 22/03/2022 14:53

Yes, I sometimes floss after breakfast & always do at it at night. My teeth are tightly packed and I ended up getting a cavity on a top molar due to food getting stuck in between there, despite brushing well and using mouthwash.

NarNooNarNoo · 22/03/2022 14:53

I have Invisalign aligners - they filed between the teeth to allow movement which means I have new gaps for food to get stuck in! I basically floss after almost every meal as don’t want to put the aligners on top of food bits. I use traditional floss plus cross flosser picks which are a game changer!

(Before aligners I almost never flossed though and the dentist never commented on that)

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2022 14:55

Tepe are my weakness as I can’t bear not using them now days

Relentlessrose · 22/03/2022 15:00

Yes, if I skip it then I only have to do the 'sniff' test the next time to remind me why I do it!
I can't get into doing teepee brushes though. I hate them

BigSandyBalls2015 · 22/03/2022 15:00

I agree about tooth health being genetic. Me and my DB were adopted as babies (different birth parents), and we had the same upbringing re: diet, sugary stuff, nagging to clean teeth etc. He has had lots of problems with his teeth, I have one filling.

Koigarden · 22/03/2022 15:03

Every day. Trying to get my kids to do it too but fighting a losing battle. It’s my biggest regret not looking after my teeth properly when I was a child. Now I’m older I have a few missing teeth at the back. Worries me a lot that my cheeks will sink in!

Koigarden · 22/03/2022 15:08

@ThreeRingCircus

I have never flossed but after my pregnancy with DD2 my gums started bleeding and my dentist said I have gum disease. So far not very seriously but I needed to start flossing for gum health so I have a few times a week but not every day. My teeth are close together and I find flossing quite difficult.....if anyone has any recommending for products they use for teeth that are tightly packed in I'd be interested to hear!
Same here. Never had bleeding gums but have gum disease. There is a link between gum disease and heart disease.
trailrunner85 · 22/03/2022 15:15

I'm hooked on interdental brushes after suddenly starting with bleeding gums, post-pregnancy.

Initially I thought my teeth were too close together for them. Oh how wrong I was. Now I have different coloured ones for all the different spaces. My gums are now healthy again and my teeth look whiter too as there's no build-up in between them.

Now I'm a convert to the interdental brushes, I think not cleaning between your teeth is pretty foul tbh. Wish I'd started years earlier.

Comfortableatlast · 22/03/2022 15:19

Every time I eat.

Thumpkin · 22/03/2022 20:58

Every single evening - have never missed a day of flossing in about a decade! Even if I’m knackered, I do it.

duvetdayforeveryone · 22/03/2022 21:00

Everyday, but only because my teeth are extremely close together and a toothbrush alone does not clean in between the teeth.

MarmiteCoriander · 22/03/2022 21:02

I floss at least twice a day. I have a floss packet in every handbag, backpack and glove compartment.

I can't stand the feeling of something stuck between my teeth- especially meat! I have no sensory issues at all, but recall bring on a long haul flight with no floss. A toothpick did nothing at removing the offending food item and it drove me absolutely bonkers!

Relentlessrose · 22/03/2022 21:23

I use expanding floss @ThreeRingCircus
It's smaller when it gets into the gap, expands slightly so gets whatever is in there, and it then gets squished back so fits between the teeth again. I totally reversed my gum disease with it, alongside hygienist, cleaning my tongue and using an electric toothbrush.

Violinist64 · 22/03/2022 21:31

I use floss sticks as I find them much easier to use than ordinary dental floss.

Shunter350 · 22/03/2022 21:40

Every morning. Makes a huge difference.

MinglingFlamingo · 22/03/2022 21:41

I floss as required. I don't get on with the stringy stuff so have a water flosser thing. You fill it with water and it's a jet washer for your teeth and gums

WellNotReally · 22/03/2022 21:45

@ApricotArcade

Never. Life's too short...
Flossing is linked to extending life expectancy so I can see a bit of a flaw in that argument Grin
