to think this house is great if you don't want nearby neighbours?!

Living in a typical suburban semi on an estate where the non attached neighbours are only 8ft away...plus the ones over the road, behind etc this looks like paradise to me.

Unfortunately its too small for us, we need more space downstairs and 4 beds, and an extension that big would cost ££££s (our total budget is £400k). Nice to dream of views and no immediate neighbours though!

Wow, it’s lush. Imagine the peace you’d get!

Ponoka7 · 19/03/2022 15:52

You'd have to check out access rights and public rights of way. The land at the back doesn't belong to the cottage. The septic tank could be a pain and I'm not keen on oil heating. But if people bother you that much, it's worth looking at. Shrewsbury is a lovely place.

23Hares · 19/03/2022 15:55

What a gorgeous house!

We moved last year from a small 2 bed end terrace to a place with similar space around it and views of hills and water. It really is peaceful, generally all I can hear is wind and water.

girlmom21 · 19/03/2022 15:59

How set in stone is your budget and how set on location are you?

I wanted this www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/116543681

Tabitha005 · 19/03/2022 16:14

Lovely... until some volume developer whacks 300 houses on that field.

UsernameNotAvailableHmm · 19/03/2022 16:36

Personally, I wouldn't be keen on it. I need people and life very nearby, but each to their own.

I think the house is a bit too near the A5, so traffic noise could be a problem.

The house is empty and although you may not have any immediate neighbours, you could end up discovering 'little guests' in the house.

The septic tank is a bit too close to the house.

Also, the current owners only bought the house back in August, 2021, some 7 months ago. It would be good to know why they have moved out and are now selling it so quickly.

Good luck with your house search.

Bet that's a bastard to get warm in the depths of winter.

I love the idea of rural like that (I'm semi rural now in so far as my town is on the outskirts of the main town and has no amenities so everything including schools need to be driven to) and I find that hard going in a nice, modern house.

MeanderingGently · 19/03/2022 16:45

I'd love a house with no neighbours, but I wouldn't have this one. Not great views and surrounded by arable land, it will be a muddy mess for half the year. It looks dark inside and awkward to update as well.

deadlanguage · 19/03/2022 16:48

Sounds great until you need an ambulance! And it’s very exposed - it must get cold.

CannaBelieve · 19/03/2022 16:52

love them both!

lanbro · 19/03/2022 16:54

I would hate that, too rural! I grew up in a village, long walk to the bus stop, limited bus service, long walk to the shop. I now live about 4 miles from a city centre, near a nature reserve so still rural-ish, but regular buses, shops nearby, easy access to the A1. I'm lucky that a lot of my neighbours are elderly so it's very peaceful!

Nomoreneighbours · 19/03/2022 17:01

Its definitely out of budget for what we'd need to do to make it big enough for us. Unless I want at least one of the kids sleeping in a caravan in the garden. I did ask (in jest) and apparently they wouldn't mind if it meant they could have a football pitch in the garden! Grin

I've only ever lived 'in town' so no idea about septuc tanks or mice for that matter though we do have a cat who could do with some exercise!

I don't think there's much chance of them building on the field, there's so much land in Shropshire and most developments are on the fringes of existing towns, or estates.

@girlmom21 that house is lovely, kitchen would be perfect, and I love the downstairs bedroom suite (we'd all be fighting over that) Ideally we'd stay in Shropshire though, or possibly over the border into Wales but one of my must haves is a flat level garden which can be hard to find in the Welsh hills!

@UsernameNotAvailableHmm how did you find it was sold in August? I've looked on Rightmove and Zoopla and couldn't find anything, possibly I'm looking in the wrong places. Having looked at it on maps it looks like it was quite overgrown and rundown, so possibly they bought cheap and are selling for a tidy profit (I'm interested to know what it was bought for now!)

Stopsnowing · 19/03/2022 17:02

Why was it built there? Years ago I was shown a house in a local park that used to btw the park wardens house. I didn’t want to live alone in a park at night!

MrsWinters · 19/03/2022 17:04

Peace? It’s right on the main road. Wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole

girlmom21 · 19/03/2022 17:08

Ah you'll find something beautiful in Shropshire in your budget! We found some amazing houses but Shropshire was just too far for us!

lapasion · 19/03/2022 17:08

Next time someone on here moans about their neighbours making normal amounts of noise, send them the link! It’s almost summer BBQ/kids playing out season.

I’d hate the place though. We lived rurally for a few years and I was miserable. I’m not outdoorsy worry was totally bored. Give me a nice concrete town any day.

Daenerys77 · 19/03/2022 17:09

If I were as close to the A5 as that house is, I'd want some other houses in between to sop up the traffic noise.

Nomoreneighbours · 19/03/2022 17:09

I think the house would originally have been a farm cottage.

I don't think of the A5 as that busy but that's probably because I grew up living near the A2 which as a main route into London is horrendously busy. A5 seems quiet in comparison! Would be interesting how much traffic noise you can hear from there.

LuaDipa · 19/03/2022 17:16

It’s definitely got the potential to be a great house. But if I was after privacy I would be concerned that the house only comes with 0.67 acres. I’d be wanting to know who owns the ‘view’.

ImplementingTheDennisSystem · 19/03/2022 17:32

It's all good until you realise a local family owns one of the fields next to your house and uses it for riding motorcross bikes, or fixing up old crappy old cars.
You need to own all of the surrounding land to be totally safe!!

prettyteapotsplease · 19/03/2022 17:40

Well, that's what I call a cottage, a proper cottage - but rather out of the way. If you ran out of milk, etc ...

Waxonwaxoff0 · 19/03/2022 17:45

I like having neighbours. If intruders entered my house I'd want someone to hear me screaming.

Bignanny30 · 19/03/2022 17:50

If you look at street view on Google you’ll see it’s not totally isolated there are a few house near by. The A5 is a dangerous road though, often accidents.

PennineWayinSlingbacks · 19/03/2022 17:56

I live half a mile from the nearest neighbour...love it! It's not for everyone, heating is expensive, you have to watch for mice etc but I love the peace. Cant imagine ever having to live next door to anyone again!

That black tank is the oil tank I'm assuming, looks like ours! I see that a new septic tank would need to be installed within 6 months. That would set the buyer back £15k at least, I imagine!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/03/2022 17:57

Lovely... until some volume developer whacks 300 houses on that field

My very thought Wink

Always, always check the local plan with any house that seems "peaceful"
