to think this house is great if you don't want nearby neighbours?!

Living in a typical suburban semi on an estate where the non attached neighbours are only 8ft away...plus the ones over the road, behind etc this looks like paradise to me.

Unfortunately its too small for us, we need more space downstairs and 4 beds, and an extension that big would cost ££££s (our total budget is £400k). Nice to dream of views and no immediate neighbours though!

@Nomoreneighbours

I think the house would originally have been a farm cottage.

I don't think of the A5 as that busy but that's probably because I grew up living near the A2 which as a main route into London is horrendously busy. A5 seems quiet in comparison! Would be interesting how much traffic noise you can hear from there.

The A5 there is just before it turns into the M54, duel carriage way and very busy. There would be road noise, I know that road well! Ok- if you are seriously looking at that sort of area, you get more for your money just over the border into Powys- near Welshpool.

I live rurally. We shop about once a week and stock up. I have dogs and keep things locked to deter intruders. If we ever need an ambulance, it will get here when it gets here. Every place has its pros and cons, but I wouldn't base my choice of where to live on the off chance that I might someday need an ambulance, can't walk to the shop, etc.

Aside from size, my biggest concern with that property would be, as pp have said, that it's on less than an acre, with no way of knowing how the neighbouring land might be developed in the near future.

SarahAndQuack · 19/03/2022 18:08

It's not a very attractive house! Surely if you wanted a really isolated location you could find something prettier than that.

Wam90 · 19/03/2022 18:36

@chatterbug22

Wow, it’s lush. Imagine the peace you’d get!
Except from the a5 which isn’t very far away by the looks of the map 🥴. Beautiful house though!
Didisquat · 19/03/2022 18:37

I did a job in that house a couple of years ago!!

Lovely... until some volume developer whacks 300 houses on that field.
This!
Didisquat · 19/03/2022 18:45

😂😂😂 no! Sounds like that doesn’t it…. It was for an estate agent

This is what puts me off places with fields and gorgeous views, unfortunately. I love peace and quiet but would rather be in an area which isn’t quite so ripe for building over, so urban it is. I think being used to tranquility and greenery, and then getting a huge development or an Amazon fulfilment centre would be truly gutting.

I need to start saving for my private island.

Finlandandsweden · 19/03/2022 18:52

I love rural but that just looks boring as anything

Jeannie88 · 19/03/2022 18:55

Oh I think I would try, save and make it work! All that space outdoors can be used to build extra rooms. X

YukoandHiro · 19/03/2022 18:56

This is absolutely my idea of hell, but I escaped the countryside of my childhood for London zone 3 and I'm very happy here.

Horses for courses.

VodselForDinner · 19/03/2022 18:58

It’s tiny! Surely the benefit of country living is more living space?

There’s one bathroom listed, but I can’t see it on the plan so I hope it is inside.

It’s a no from me, OP. I love rurally and love it but that’s not a nice house, or in a nice location.

That's not how planning permissions work.
Nomoreneighbours · 19/03/2022 19:09

I love the location personally, you're less than 15 mins from Shrewsbury and under 10 from Wellington. Ideally I'd like to have some things within walking distance but only being 5 miles from shops is fine.

The house is too small and though there is room to extend, we don't have the budget. Unfortunately for 400k its getting increasingly difficult to find anything in the area with half an acre or more, so its either smaller house or smaller garden!

TheoriginalMrsDarcy · 19/03/2022 19:40

Don't worry, local authority will soon set that right and grant planning permission for 1000 new build houses soon.

museumum · 19/03/2022 19:46

I would hate to not be able to walk to school, football, cubs etc. and at least a basic shop and maybe a cafe. I’d feel so trapped if I had to drive everywhere.

Blossomtoes · 19/03/2022 19:58

I’d have thought the likelihood of agricultural land being built on is pretty remote. It’s really hard to get planning permission for that.

sst1234 · 19/03/2022 20:08

A detached house with 828 sq.ft of space? A stand-alone shoebox.

YouOKhun · 19/03/2022 20:19

Sweet house but in a flat open area the noise from the A5 will be intrusive. The other problem is that it’s close to Telford which I know has had some big development granted for 350 houses (not near this house) and I can see that they could very easily develop along the A5 corridor and that house could well find itself with lots of neighbours sadly. It’s amazing how permission to build on agricultural land, AONB, outside permitted areas etc etc has been possible in recent times and that location would make me nervous!

mjf981 · 19/03/2022 20:21

It’s like little house on the prairie: UK version.

LemonsLimes · 19/03/2022 20:23

I'd be scared at night.

ButtockUp · 19/03/2022 20:24

I'd snap it up and extend.
Look's idyllic.
Bit too far away though.

oviraptor21 · 19/03/2022 20:32

Looks lovely.
Bit Hmm about the ambulance comment - probably quicker to access this property than one in a town centre, depending of course on where the ambulance station is.
I'm also a fan of rural aspect but reasonable close to major access route.
And like you say, shop properly once a week and you really don't need to worry about running out of milk. Plus you can always pick some up on the way home from wherever. And your local Tesco, Sainsbury, Ocado no doubt does deliveries too. Just because there is a rural aspect doesn't mean there are no accessible amenities.

DedalusBloom · 19/03/2022 20:39

Oh God nononononono that house gives me the proper willies. That is textbook spooky house in my opinion. 👻
