To ask how much your 2 year olds weigh

We weighed our son (22 months) yesterday and he's 14.2kg Shock I think that makes him on the 95th centile. He was off the charts previously and he's much slimmer in proportion now, very tall. Just wondering what your similar age toddlers weigh?

OP posts:
Passanotherjaffacake · 19/03/2022 08:18

My nearly 3 year old is similar, she is quite tall (nearly a meter) and 15.7 kilos. I will be calling the HV to chat to her about it. She has no rolls of fat, but no bones showing. When you look at the pictures of children who are an ideal weight they do have bones showing. So need a plan of action as I don’t want her to struggle with her weight. We have always been worried that she doesn’t eat enough so feel bad about that as clearly she was!

PaddlingLikeADuck · 19/03/2022 08:47

I have a 4.5 year old and he’s just under 16kg.

Some kids are bigger and others are smaller which is why centile charts exist. There’s a wide range of ‘normal’.

As the above poster said, it’s always worth just having a chat with a HV if you are concerned, which I’m guessing you are if you posted on here for advice.

Don’t worry too much though if she’s otherwise healthy and she doesn’t look overweight.

If you are concerned about her intake then perhaps keep a food diary for a few weeks to get an accurate intake of her calorie intake?

Svara · 19/03/2022 08:51

Mine was 11kg on his second birthday, 13kg on his third.

KatieKat88 · 19/03/2022 08:57

I genuinely don't have a clue. Hasn't been weighed since her first birthday and now she's 2 and a bit - is it necessary? I'd say in most cases as long as they're having mostly healthy food and get out and about to move around lots they'll be fine?

FairWindClearSailing · 19/03/2022 09:01

20 months and 11.7kg

SlashBeef · 19/03/2022 09:02

23 months and about 11kg

girlmom21 · 19/03/2022 09:03

Mines been a steady 15.8kg since she turned 2. She's got much taller and slimmer. She'll be 3 in May and she's 16.7kg now.

She's been on the 98th centile since about 3 months.

SheWoreYellow · 19/03/2022 09:05

Given that yours is on the 95th centile, about 94 people out of 100 will say ‘a bit less’ and 5 will say ‘a bit more’.

Or don’t you believe the centiles? Grin

89redballoons · 19/03/2022 09:06

We weighed mine when he had just turned 2, out of curiosity because DH and I were both weighing ourselves. He was 10.5kg which is about 10th centile.

He is a titch, and now at 2 years and 3 months has only just outgrown his 12-18 month clothes. He was 6lb 4oz when born and has always followed the lower centile lines. My DH is the tallest man in his family at 5'8" and so DS was never going to be on the basketball team. They're all different - I think as long as they're following centile line roughly and their height and weight aren't wildly out of proportion it's ok.

Whoopsies · 19/03/2022 09:06

My ds is 2 years 7 months and weighs 13kg, I think that puts him down on the lower centiles, something like the 10th, he's 94cn tall. People come in all shapes and sizes, you will know if you are feeding him right and getting him enough time moving!

SunshineLollipopsRainbow · 19/03/2022 12:07

2 yr 3 months just over 12kg

Ozanj · 19/03/2022 12:13

12kg. His height is around 50th centile too.

If you and DH are both 95th centile in height, it’s fine its normal. However if you are both under then be careful - obesity first shows up in toddlers through them being much taller than expected. The weight then piles on from 4-5.
So if he is eating more than he should you might want to make sure he doesn’t gain more weight for a while.

ChampionOfTheSun · 19/03/2022 12:13

DD was 13.1kg at a hospital appointment when she was 22mo, 91st centile for both height and weight, which is the line she seemed to settle on. I haven't weighed her since though and she's over 2 now.

lilahbelle · 19/03/2022 12:20

Our DS is a few weeks short of 3 and is 15.4kg, but he's been much the same weight for the past year and just grown much taller, so it all evens out eventually!

Botanica · 19/03/2022 12:23

26 months girl, 13.3kg

Caspianberg · 19/03/2022 12:26

Ds was weighed a few days ago for medicine dose. He’s 12kg exactly, and 22 months. He’s pretty tall, 90+ cm.
Was on 95% for height and weight born. He’s now high on height, but lower on weight. Doctor said it was average weight wise.
He wears 18-24/ 2-3 years in clothing depending

Xmassprout · 19/03/2022 12:30

2 years, 4 months and 9.5 kg. She is very petite though, and both me and my husband are relatively short so it's no surprise.

IwaswhoIam · 19/03/2022 12:37

My 18 month old (average height) DS use to weigh 16 kilo. He had a huge appetite. I was worried but when I spoke to our health visitor about it, she had absolutely no concerns . She told me to continue feeding him as much as he wants ( obviously healthy ) and eventually he will start eating less and thin out . It took a long time though but between age 2-3 his appetite slowly decreased . Now he eats air for dinner 😂! He turned three last month , now weighs 15 kilo and is a healthy, active boy who has definitely thinned out .

RoseGoldEagle · 19/03/2022 12:39

OP is he more of less tracking the same centile line he’s always been on? If so he’s likely to be growing as he should. If he’s rapidly increasing across centile lines it might be more of an issue. I’d recommend reading anything by Ellyn Satter if you want more info

Chasingaftermidnight · 19/03/2022 12:44

2yrs 8 months and 19.3kg which is off the top of the charts. I took him to the HV last week as I was concerned but after measuring his height and head circumference, looking at his weight history, and seeing the size of me and his father (his dad is extremely tall and I’m quite tall) she wasn’t at all worried.

Thoughtsarrivelikebutterflies5 · 19/03/2022 12:55

DD is nearly 3. I think she's approximately 12-13kg. Only really keep track for the car seat weight limits. No idea on centiles. All I know is that she's tall! Everyone has always commented on how long she is, from birth.

As long as they are roughly following centiles, developing well, eating well and generally active, I honestly wouldn't worry too much. If you have any concerns, please speak to your HV though Smile

LimeSegment · 19/03/2022 12:56

My dd weighed 15.5 at 2. I weighed my ds on the same day, aged 3.5 then, he was also 15.5 kg.

I am desperate for my dd not to be overweight like I was, but I'm not sure what do to. I give them a healthy diet with no snacks, no bread, no drinks except water and 100mL (I measure it) of low fat milk once per day. They exercise, play outside/ride bikes for 1-2 hours a day and don't watch TV or use tablets/phones.

It's working for my ds who is the perfect 50th centile bmi. Why isn't it working for my dd who is 87th centile? She was born 4.1kg (95th centile) even though I didn't gain much weight in pregnancy, eat a poor diet or have gestational diabetes.

Is she tall? I’d speak to your health visitor if you’re concerned but unless she’s very short then given she was born heavy it’s probably just the way she is! All children are different.
CrabbyCat · 19/03/2022 13:34

My 31 month old is just under 13kg, which makes him about 40th centile. He's slightly higher centiles for height, but if he follows his older brother he'll shoot up over the next year.

Bloatstoat · 19/03/2022 14:59

My just turned 3 year old is 16kg, which I think is 98th centile, she's always been there and is tall, in size 5-6 clothes. My 9 month old is 11.7kg, again nearly off the charts and in 18-24 months clothes. Mt eldest was always 98th centile for both height and weight until he was about 4 when he kept growing taller so is still 98th for height but is 75th for weight, he slimmed down a lot so now looks like the pictures PP mentioned where you can see bones. As far as I'm aware if they are tracking centiles it's fine, some are bigger some smaller and as long as they're growing it's ok.
