To ask how much your 2 year olds weigh

We weighed our son (22 months) yesterday and he's 14.2kg Shock I think that makes him on the 95th centile. He was off the charts previously and he's much slimmer in proportion now, very tall. Just wondering what your similar age toddlers weigh?

My son was a similar size to yours OP at that age, and I was worried about it. He was way above the 99th centile for height and weight. I weighed him on his 2nd birthday and he was 17.5kg and 93cm.

He's now 5.7 and 25kg/125cm so roughly 91st/98th centiles. He has slimmed down loads, has visible ribs and shoulder blades. He just seemed to pack it all on early and is growing into it more now.

As long as he is sticking to roughly similar centile lines and his height and weight are in proportion, I think it's ok.

Ah that's good to hear. I think he's a slightly lower centile than he was. Used to be a real porker around 1 years old! Definitely looks in proportion now and he doesn't eat masses.
@bumbledeedum - it’s based on official obesity advice in some parts of the country (I get provided a packet from the council / local NHS trusts at my nursery). Obesity is front loaded & shows up as increased height first. So, if a child has two 95 centile parents and is themselves 95 centile they are ok. But if they have two short parents we have to mention it to the parents & request them to make an appointment with their HV. It has actually spotted obesity in 2-3 year olds but the parents were blind to it and so proud of their child’s height (quoting tall great grandparents etc to explain it) they took no action until the child suddenly turned 4 and the weight started to pile on. But at that point it becomes much, much more difficult to manage.

It’s the reason why HV look at height and weight and parents height all together before deciding if a child needs help or not. For example DN was 95 in height 110 in weight at 2 but as DB is 6 ft 2 the HV said she wanted to give him some time to grow & 2 years later is 110 in height and 95 in weight which is perfect if a bit underweight.
Sorry I hope you didn't take my question the wrong way, I was just interested as I've not heard this before.

My 37 month old is 91st centile height and weight at roughly 104cm and 38lbs last month (slightly higher on the height scale than weight but not much in it). His HV hasn't raised any concerns but I will now check in when I see her next month now. He literally doesn't stop eating especially in the mornings so I'm super conscious of him being overweight.

@Chasingaftermidnight

Mines the same almost- 2 & 9 months and is 17kg he doesn’t look fat and doesn’t have any rolls he’s just solid built , me and father are very tall and both slim and I don’t think he eats that much crap food.

gogohm · 21/03/2022 22:19

My dd1 was 21lbs at her 2 year check up and dd2 was 22lbs both tiny

Anyone else with a large toddler on this post who is worried - I did post above saying mine is 17kg at 2 years 8 months. Well I went to the gp today for a different matter for which he had to be weighed. I mentioned bmi and him being classed as overweight and she said bmi is aload of rubbish for children and there is no way my son is overweight by looking at him it’s just his build and that he is a good weight!

NewBuildLurker · 15/04/2022 11:18

14.7kg

Very active & tall. I think 90th centile.

Missmonkeypenny · 15/04/2022 11:59

DS2 is 13.4kg and 28 months - same centile for height
