To ask how much your 2 year olds weigh

We weighed our son (22 months) yesterday and he's 14.2kg Shock I think that makes him on the 95th centile. He was off the charts previously and he's much slimmer in proportion now, very tall. Just wondering what your similar age toddlers weigh?

My 23 mo DTs are 10.1 and 11.1kgs. Weighed this week.

Cheesechips · 19/03/2022 16:28

@SheWoreYellow

Given that yours is on the 95th centile, about 94 people out of 100 will say ‘a bit less’ and 5 will say ‘a bit more’.

Or don’t you believe the centiles? Grin

It's not that I don't believe it, I was just asking other people Hmm

They don't really put a lot of weight on between 2-4, they just sort of stretch up. My almost 5 year old DS was weighed the other day and is 19kg, on the 75th centile for weight.

RedRobin100 · 19/03/2022 18:18

A bloody tonne he’s a wee tank

UnbeatenMum · 19/03/2022 18:24

My DS was 18kg at two and a half. He's on the same centile for height though (between 98th and 99.6th).

TAKESNOSHITSHIRLEY · 19/03/2022 19:10

my now 11 y old was that weight at 5-6 months

he was practically 11 lbs born and 29 inches(yes 29 inches and no im not making it up as ive been accused of that before on here, he really came out at 29 inches with enormous feet) though and in 6-9 month clothing from new-born where most new-borns are on a few ounces a bottle mine was a full 11oz then at 5-6 weeks 16 oz every hour and half. he used to go through 2-3 tubs of formula per week.
i got that fed up he went of full cows milk at 6 months.

,hes been off the charts since birth as he was always well over the 100% percentile

i never had a hv anyway or took him to any clinic to get weighed (all i did was injections at the doctors)so it never mattered as he was never weighed and measured for their charts, I used to do it myself every month.

hes 5ft 5 now and just over 11 st in medium to large mens clothing with size mens 9 feet.

loads think hes 14/15 but hes still technically a primary school kid in y 6(we home educate so thats why i said technically)

hes been way way over his peers size(and a few years older)since birth, ive never bothered worrying as he wasn't standard born.

some people have 4-5 pound tiddlers that fit in one hand some have 10-12 pound whoppers that need 2 hands to hold a newborn.

Yeiissn · 19/03/2022 19:36

Mine will be 4 in May and has been 15 kg since she was 3.

cadburyegg · 19/03/2022 19:39

At the other end of the scale, my youngest was just under 11kg at age 2 and now at 4 is only 12.7kg. He's short too, so actually had a bit of chub on him when he turned 2, mainly cos he only started walking at 22 months. He's much more in proportion now although still short (97cm)!

Russell19 · 19/03/2022 19:43

My dad is 3 in May and he is 2st 2lbs. No idea what that is in kg.

DockOTheBay · 19/03/2022 19:45

To save you time - 95% of children of the same age will be the same weight or less. 5% will be higher. Thats how centiles work.

FWIW my daughter is 11.2kg and turns 2 next week.

Is this his second coming?
NewBuildLurker · 19/03/2022 20:52

15kg, been between 90th - 99th centiles since she was born.

bumbledeedum · 19/03/2022 21:51

@Ozanj

12kg. His height is around 50th centile too.

If you and DH are both 95th centile in height, it’s fine its normal. However if you are both under then be careful - obesity first shows up in toddlers through them being much taller than expected. The weight then piles on from 4-5.
So if he is eating more than he should you might want to make sure he doesn’t gain more weight for a while.

What are you basing this on? I've never heard of this before.

Lol I love a good typo..
Rinatinabina · 19/03/2022 22:06

DD 2yrs 4 months 16kg 98cm

OfstedOffred · 19/03/2022 22:14

My kids are both v slim. Eldest is 117cm tall and weighs 19kg. Im not even going to post what my 2 yr old weighs as so tiny it's ridiculous (health issues).

I see a LOT of chunky kids around these days. I do think too many people are led to thinking it's ok because they are tall but overweight children do tend to gain height earlier - however that stops when they hit puberty early too and are left average height but still too heavy.

wetrainday · 19/03/2022 22:15

17 month old, 99%tile, 15kgs
He is just V V tall! I think that size for a 22 month is perfect Smile

OfstedOffred · 19/03/2022 22:20

It's true. A lot of overweight children are very tall, and "well built". They simply get to puberty and adult height earlier & are left still overweight.

OfstedOffred · 19/03/2022 22:21

Oh and people have this idea that all tall children are heavy. Its not true. My DC is 95th% height, 40th weight. Paediatrician said that is quite normal for a naturally tall thin child - they don't actually expect weight % to match height at the outlying edges of the range.

fmac2987 · 19/03/2022 22:21

11.5 kg girl at 22 months

EcoCustard · 19/03/2022 22:35

Dc4 is 2 years 11 months and weighs 14.4kg. I weighed him the other day as he feels like he has gotten quite heavy recently. He is tall and slim not quite sure how as he never sits still and barely eats at the moment. His sister is 15.2kg and she is 4.5.

Peoniesandcream · 20/03/2022 17:26

2 years 3 months and he's over 14kg. He's as tall as as year old, recently shot up so not looking as chubby just a sturdy little thing. I wouldn't worry OP.

Peoniesandcream · 20/03/2022 17:26

Sorry tall as a 3 year old I meant

Ozanj · 21/03/2022 14:33

@bumbledeedum - it’s based on official obesity advice in some parts of the country (I get provided a packet from the council / local NHS trusts at my nursery). Obesity is front loaded & shows up as increased height first. So, if a child has two 95 centile parents and is themselves 95 centile they are ok. But if they have two short parents we have to mention it to the parents & request them to make an appointment with their HV. It has actually spotted obesity in 2-3 year olds but the parents were blind to it and so proud of their child’s height (quoting tall great grandparents etc to explain it) they took no action until the child suddenly turned 4 and the weight started to pile on. But at that point it becomes much, much more difficult to manage.

It’s the reason why HV look at height and weight and parents height all together before deciding if a child needs help or not. For example DN was 95 in height 110 in weight at 2 but as DB is 6 ft 2 the HV said she wanted to give him some time to grow & 2 years later is 110 in height and 95 in weight which is perfect if a bit underweight.

Aimee1987 · 21/03/2022 14:41

Mine is 75th centile for height and weight ( me and dad are both quite tall). He has a pediatric dietician due to allergies and she was very happy with his growth at his last appointment a couple months ago.
