AIBU to say its time childrens TV was presented by children

Lived in a country that did this very successfully. Its often grated on me that these presenters try to act like the kids and in view of the recent scandal i.e Mark Speight, and many other of these childrens TV presenters I think its time to give it over to, well the kids who they are presenting to.

Yes thats all very well but who would bored mums like me ogle then?

fireflyfairy2 · 05/01/2008 22:12

Mark Dpeight hasn't been proven guilty of anything

colditz · 05/01/2008 22:12

I think it should be presented by a level drama students.

stripeymama · 05/01/2008 22:12

[need a life emoticon]

I did think, the other day while watching PC Plum on Balamory, what could possibly induce a grown man to chose this as his career?

I wonder if they are really grumpy buggers at home, to make up for the insane smiley smile at work.

dirtygertiefromnumber30 · 05/01/2008 22:16

kids can come across very pretentious when presenting imo. give me justin any day!

2shoes · 05/01/2008 22:18

ah but what happens if the kids get an asbo?

IorekByrnison · 05/01/2008 22:18

Chimps would be better

Magdelanian · 05/01/2008 22:18

stripey, keep you own needs out of this. Did you really fancy Mark Speight? I'm not saying hes guilty of anything however, his co star said that she hated kids recently and I hate seeing older adolesence who are more interested in non-childish things making a living presenting to kids and trying to act like them. In SA kids presented and its was much better.

at least the kids can only do calpol and nothing worse
i think the money in childrens tv ought to be very good - who in their right mind would do what they do on telly? take justin/balamory crew/chris thingy who does mr mopple or whatever.....please.

2shoes · 05/01/2008 22:22

kids tv is bad enough. imaginge a lot of kids presenting it..........omg what a awful thought.

IorekByrnison · 05/01/2008 22:25

I think all the programmes should only be presented by Chris Corcoran out of doodledo.

Don't think kids presenting is that great an idea. Do you remember Why Don't You?

Magdelanian · 05/01/2008 22:25

2 shoes. Its hasnt been done any other way here but I think it makes sense and obviously it would be with professional input. I think grown ups trying to be kids is worse than kids being kids.

well said mag

stripeymama · 05/01/2008 22:35

I do not fancy Mark Speight.

Mr Tumble on the other hand....

Shitemum · 05/01/2008 22:36

Does no-one remember 'Why don't you'? A seventies magazine programme that was entirely presented by kids.

Washersaurus · 05/01/2008 22:36

Well I remember 'Why Don't You' and would agree it wasn't exactly a brilliant advertisement for children presenting tv shows (it was crap).

It is enough having to watch my own DC's doing stuff all day without being forced to watch someone elses 'perform' on the tele, thank you very much!

Magdelanian · 05/01/2008 22:37

I prefer the chuckle brothers esp the little one.

stripeymama · 05/01/2008 22:37

I do find it a bit icky the way they are so fake childish. And a bit patronising to kids too.

How old were you Washer? I was about 10 and i thought they were well cool.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 05/01/2008 22:39

I did love 'Why don't you' as a kid - still make their 'pizza toast' for brunch sometimes!

But I do think progs for v young children i.e. cbeebies output wouldn't work with 3 yo presenters adults are appropriate I love Pui . But schoolage children should have somenprogrammes presented by their peers I agree.

worley · 05/01/2008 22:42

i used to love why dont you also, i always wanted to be on tv with them. blue peter is just like a version of it with adults presentind instead of kids!

bigmouthstrikesagain · 05/01/2008 22:42

God Now you are all thinking I am a total loser for liking 'why dont you' bugger!

Magdelanian · 05/01/2008 22:43

Patronising they are IMO, 'Why dont you' has been mentioned a few times and I thought it was ok. It could all be improved on. I think kids love seeing other kids on TV and would take more notice of the links etc.
