Obviously light-hearted... Just find them annoying to assemble, don't have much surface space to put them on and then you have to sort them when they die!

Not to mention you normally receive them when you least feel like doing all the above - when poorly, after surgery, grieving etc...

Give me chocolates anyday 😁

Agree. I recently had a big birthday. On the day I received eight bouquets of flowers. I don't want to sound ungrateful but I was absolutely gutted. I was a bit skint and I only have two vases. My family and friends are better off than me...I don't think a single bunch would have been less than £40. To see £350-£450 worth of flowers just rotting in my kitchen was depressing. I'd have preferred a £10 Sainsbury's voucher

Pyri · 18/03/2022 15:05

Agreed, it feels like quite a chore to find a base, cut all the bits off them, top up water, chuck them away etc

But then I find quite a lot of gifts ti be more hassle. My MIL is a big fan of giving cheaper versions of normal stuff (huge fan of “Aldi dupes”) which are never ever as good as the original. I find it more hassle to figure out what to do with them when I’d rather just not own them but feel guilty about giving stuff away

Rummikub · 18/03/2022 15:05

This is me too! Totally identify with being skint and preferring a Tesco voucher.
And yes it’s at times when least need extra jobs to do

indiesearcher · 18/03/2022 15:06

OMG me too.

I've actually asked DH to stop (it's not even a regular thing but I hate it that much).

At a push I could accommodate a few lovely big peony or hydrangea stems, but foliage, pollen etc, no thank you!!

Spellfish · 18/03/2022 15:06

It’s not a present, it’s a chore. Find a vase, find the scissors, chop the bottom off thick stalks one by one and have them fly everywhere, snip off all the lower leaves so they’re not under water, mix up the plant food, arrange in vase, tidy up the mess, take out the bin you’ve just filled with it, wipe the surfaces. Then sneeze at the sodding flowers.

indiesearcher · 18/03/2022 15:07

And make sure Dcat doesn't eat the flowers

AndSoFinally · 18/03/2022 15:07

This was how I first knew DP was a keeper. He bought me flowers and then cut the stems and arranged them beautifully on a vase.

I love flowers, but all the faff just feels like an extra chore and takes the fun out of it

FiveGoToAsda · 18/03/2022 15:07

Totally with you here, OP. Plus we have to pull out any lilies, lovely though they are, because they're toxic to cats.

MrsGHarrison87 · 18/03/2022 15:07

I love them but I hate the arranging of them, cutting the stems and leaves and all that.

iklboo · 18/03/2022 15:09

Me too. My parents recently passed away & while I appreciate the thought they're a hassle & constant reminder.

DoorLion · 18/03/2022 15:09

Well I haven't voted, because clearly you are not unreasonable to have your own feelings about flowers, but I will just pipe up and say I love them, and am generally reduced to buying myself a bunch of tulips or roses, which I do more often nowadays!

I'm a bit taken aback at the idea that they are a chore - I hardly ever bother to snip the ends and they seem to last just as long - and otherwise it is just plunking them in some water, popping the flower food or whatever it is in there (again I don't always and it doesn't seem to make that much difference), and chucking them out when they are done. I'm incredibly slack around the house - you don't want to know how often my sheets get changed and my bathroom cleaned - but it seems easy enough to me!

LaraDeSalle · 18/03/2022 15:11

I don’t mind a really decent bunch but I detest a cheap bouquet that will go limp after only a day or two.

Uniformity · 18/03/2022 15:11

I love a Tesco bunch. The idea of anyone spending more than 10quid on a bunch of flowers stresses me out

Blossomandbee · 18/03/2022 15:11

I hardly ever get them, so I do enjoy them when I do. However I much prefer something cheap and simple, like spring flowers to anything overpriced and fussy.

nearlyspringyay · 18/03/2022 15:12

I love a couple of bunches of tulips or daffodils at this time of year, that I hit myself. They just signal spring to me.

Totally agree with you apart from that though.

lollipoprainbow · 18/03/2022 15:13

Chance would be a fine thing

Blossomtoes · 18/03/2022 15:15

Please, please send all your unwanted bouquets to me. Arranging flowers is as far away from a chore as it’s possible to get for me.

MrsSugar · 18/03/2022 15:18

I’m not keen on flowers either really. Just another faff to sort a vase n clear them out when they die. Also houses tend to fill with flowers when bad things happen. When my dad died my mums house was filled to bursting with flowers…. There wasn’t enough vases so some were in big glasses n the bloody cats kept tipping them over. Was so kind of folk but a total pita x

TheRealHousewife · 18/03/2022 15:20

I must be in the minority. I absolutely adore fresh flowers and my OH buys them quite regularly as he enjoys them as much as I. They brighter up the dullest corner and some smell Devine.

I also get some busy people see them as a palaver and a chore.

Hugasauras · 18/03/2022 15:21

I love getting them, but I'm not exactly a flower arranger - I just snip them in the ends and stick them in a vase of water, takes about 30 seconds! And I am a total lazy slattern, so definitely averse to anything that causes me extra work! Then I just chuck them in food bin when they're past their best. I really love daffodils at this time of year - I usually have a vase in most downstairs rooms as they're so cheery. I usually just get those for myself although DH will pick up a bunch when he sees them.

galacticpixels · 18/03/2022 15:24

If DP buys flowers he'll cut them and put them in the vase etc so I like it then. Any other time from anyone else, I do see them more as a chore.

One birthday a friend gave me flowers while we were out at a restaurant... I had to lug them around for the rest of the evening, from pub to pub... So annoying. No clue why she thought that was a good idea.

Norgie · 18/03/2022 15:27

Going off topic slightly, sorry but can I just say to anyone ordering flowers online for delivery, please avoid a company called Prestige flowers via home bargains.
I ordered a bouquet of carnations for a friend who was poorly last week.
When they arrived, unlike the picture, there were six, just six carnations which cost me £21!!
I'm furious, not least because they've also ignored all my attempts to contact them regarding the matter.

On the other hand, I enjoy receiving flowers.

Mooda · 18/03/2022 15:28

YANBU

They die so quickly and the environmental footprint feels completely unnecessary. A heap of fertiliser to grow them, then having them flown/ or driven halfway around the world/Europe just to sit on my table for 5 days dropping pollen before they die. I mean what is the point really.

Funkyslippers · 18/03/2022 15:31

I like getting them but it's a bit of a faff sorting a vase and trimming them, often if a friend comes round for dinner and I'm in the middle of cooking.

I was recently asked to buy some flowers for a colleague and arrange a collection. I accidentally sent an email to everyone including her - luckily she saw it and messaged me saying "please don't get me any flowers - I've had loads already but a bottle of Prosecco would be wonderful"!!!!

Rummikub · 18/03/2022 15:31

I’m looking at a bunch now on my table
Waiting till I can throw them.
I suggested I got kitchen roll instead of flowers 😬
