To not enjoying recieving flowers?

Obviously light-hearted... Just find them annoying to assemble, don't have much surface space to put them on and then you have to sort them when they die!

Not to mention you normally receive them when you least feel like doing all the above - when poorly, after surgery, grieving etc...

Give me chocolates anyday 😁

I love flowers. Hate receiving chocolates or alcohol

Namechangeforthis88 · 18/03/2022 15:32

Not great environmentally either as most are flown in from somewhere and don't have much of a shelf life. It pains me. My advice to anyone thinking of buying me flowers is to get right to the point of getting their money our and then take that money to a posh chocolate shop.

hiredandsqueak · 18/03/2022 15:37

I love flowers they are my favourite gift really because I can enjoy them and throw them away when they are done. I'd hate chocolates or alcohol as I don't drink and I don't like chocolate.

BrioNotBiro · 18/03/2022 15:38

Another disliker here. As well as all the above good reasons, there's the space they take up as I don't have loads of spare surfaces. Such a faff having to move them to lay the table etc.

Oh yes, and lily pollen stains, impossible to remove.

berlinbabylon · 18/03/2022 15:40

I don't like receiving them - DH knows not to buy them for me (though he buys them for him if he's at the supermarket and they have nice bouquets as he likes them and thinks they cheer the house up - fair enough). I don't find arranging them fun. I also wouldn't send them to someone who had a small baby or was ill, as it's a faff to sort them out.

NeedleNoodle3 · 18/03/2022 15:41

I love receiving flowers, it’s takes me about 5-10 minutes to sort them out and then gives me pleasure many times a day when I look at them. I have a system where every few days I make the bunch smaller and I end up with 1-3 flowers that I cut down short and place in my late fathers’s stem vase.

RedPinkRose · 18/03/2022 15:41

Agree. Such a faff. I do however love cutting a few pretty flowers from my garden and putting them into a little posy arrangements in spring and summer.

1forAll74 · 18/03/2022 15:48

i like to see them displayed in spacious areas, I only have a tiny old cottage and no good display places, so my three cats are would llkely knock a vase over... I uses to do some flower arranging for people years ago though.. Years ago again, I used to have a cockatiel, who was out of his cage most of the day, and if I had flowers in a vase anywhere, he would sit on the edge of the vase, and peck, and rip the leaves and flowers off most of the flowers, and just chuck them all over the floor.

Vwswimmer1 · 18/03/2022 15:49

Lily pollen stains are the worst!

Have enjoyed reading posts from the people that agree and those that love flowers!

YANBU. I only ever buy them for a couple of friends who I know absolutely love to receive fresh flowers.

Like you, I view them as quite wasteful and also a bit of a chore.

VeganFuture · 18/03/2022 15:55

I don’t like receiving them either. If I know I’m not going to be visited by the person that’s sent them, I get rid of them straight away. 😬

sayanythingelse · 18/03/2022 15:55

I like a cute bouquet from DH now and again but I agree that sympathy/congratulations flowers are horrendous. When we lost DD2, our house was like a florists. I had to go to the charity shop and buy loads of cheap vases to keep them all in.

DoorLion · 18/03/2022 16:00

I am wondering where you all keep your vases if sorting them out is a faff - I open a cupboard, take out a vase, and Bob's your Uncle! Same as getting a saucepan or a mug or a plate. Do you all keep yours in the Crystal Maze?

TheFormidableMrsC · 18/03/2022 16:06

I'm not keen either. I will buy myself bunches of daffs in Spring but as a gift, no thank you! I'd rather have a bottle of wine or whatever. Some people just love having flowers but I don't get it myself.

Whybirdwhy · 18/03/2022 16:10

YANBU. We got loads (and I means loads) when DS was born, it was a massive faff and they took up every surface when we really didn't have the space / time / vases! Then the house was filled with dead flowers for a while. One person (also a parent!) sent me a gigantic bar of dairy milk - yes do this please.

It was so kind of everyone tho and it was lovely to know so many people were thinking of us which I guess is the point. I haven't forgotten those who took the time to send them.

Chely · 18/03/2022 16:14

Not a fan of cut flowers but I do like plants, especially ones I can pop in the garden.

Pinkbendyman · 18/03/2022 16:14

They die so quickly and the environmental footprint feels completely unnecessary. A heap of fertiliser to grow them, then having them flown/ or driven halfway around the world/Europe just to sit on my table for 5 days dropping pollen before they die. I mean what is the point really.

I would much rather be given a plant - indoor or outdoor

Annoyedandirritated · 18/03/2022 16:16

Agree I hate getting them! Thought I was alone 🤣

PinkSyCo · 18/03/2022 16:22

God yes, I thought it was just me! Give me chocs or a bottle of plonk over space hogging, messy petal shedding flowers any day!

bilbodog · 18/03/2022 16:24

OK send them over to me 🤣🤣🤣

By the way you dont need to ‘sort’ them when they die - just throw them out!

housemaus · 18/03/2022 16:30

I love cheapo flowers (daffodils, tulips, anything that's £4 a bunch from the supermarket - DH knows there's nothing that makes me more delighted than a yellow sticker bunch of flowers!) but if someone wanted to spend £50 on me there's far better things I can think of.

Blossom64265 · 18/03/2022 16:31

Flowers used to be nice to get because they arrived arranged. That is how I send them if I send someone flowers. I contact a local florist and have them delivered ready to display. Yes, it costs more, but I agree, getting flowers shouldn’t be a chore, especially if you are Infirm or grieving.

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 18/03/2022 16:32

The last 3 times I've had flowers they've gone straight outside.
Twice they went in the garden waste bin and once we put them in the shed and put them on DH mums grave.
I hate cut flowers.
They're already dead/dying when you get them.
Buy me something for the garden instead!

GeneLovesJezebel · 18/03/2022 16:33

Agree. I buy myself the odd bunch of daffs or tulips, but they’re easy to cope with.

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 18/03/2022 16:33

@Pyri
I find it more hassle to figure out what to do with them

Bin them.
