What holidays did you go on as a child?

Just curious really. We never went to France or Spain etc or further afield when I was little, we would go and stay with relatives in fun cities or lovely parts of the countryside which I adored, and have wonderful memories. But at the same time I remember poring over travel brochures wishing we could go abroad as well!

Where did your family go on holidays when you were young? Did it instil a sense of adventure? Do you take your own kids back to some of your favourite places now?

I didn't go on a holiday abroad until I was about 15 or 16. When I was younger, we usually had a week in a chalet or a static caravan, in places on the south coast or the West Country or the Isle of Wight.

Then when I was a bit older and my siblings had both left home, my mum and dad and I went to Paris - if I remember rightly, my grandparents paid for that, but I can't remember why now. I remember being incredibly excited by it and being blown away by the sights and the food and by staying in a hotel, which I'd never done before.

Mainly camping in my first 7 years - haven and similar places. Went to Florida when i was 8 and 10. Then when i was in secondary school went to Ibiza, Corfu, Spain and Paris so would say i was pretty lucky. I can't afford to take my kids abroad as much as they did but saving to take them to Florida.

First holiday I had was when I was 17- and I paid for it myself.

I had no holidays as a child.

Without meaning to sound ungrateful, I didn’t really experience a holiday with my parents until I was about 16. We used to go to my dad’s home country once or twice a year but it wasn’t never really a “holiday” in the sense you think it is - it was more to visit my dad’s family and just stayed at their home. We never did touristy things while we were there - just did the same thing we would do at home in the UK on a normal day which was very boring.

I have really amazing holiday memories.

We went to a lot of different places in the UK. Devon, Cornwall, Isle of Wight, Scarborough, Dorset, Scotland. I loved it. Most of these were caravan holidays.

We also did quite a few holidays in France and Spain.

I had so much phone on both types of holiday.

When I was younger we'd go for 1-2 weeks in the summer.Mostly camping, static caravans or places like Centre Parks (but cheaper). As I got older we went on a few European holidays.

As a young child I loved staying on campsites or holiday parks. As an only child there were always lots of other kids to play with. I struggled a lot more on family holidays as a teenager when there was nothing to do but join my parents on whatever activity they had planned.

Menorca we went to the most. We plan to take DS there (only 2 months old so not yet!)
When my dad became redundant they took us to Florida to do Disney etc. That was my best holiday and have been once as an adult since. Definitely plan to take DS there in years to come, when we can afford to. This is still the holiday that I think back to the most. Nothing beats it for a child IMO.
Also went to France and Greece when I was young.

Closer to home, we did Wales and Center Parcs!
