On the look out for great new habits. What are yours? Here are a few of mine to start us off:

  • floss and use interdental in the shower
  • take one old item out of the fridge each time I open it
  • get dressed as soon as I get out of bed to avoid lounging in dressing gown

what are your great habits that help your life run smoothly? I'm in need of inspiration! thanks :)

I meditate every day. It was my GP's idea. I use the Headspace app. It has been life changing. It takes just over 10 minutes although you can do it in about 5.

I don't think I have any other good habits! Lol! Good thread!

@TeloMere

I think many people want to believe they should drink large quantities of water when they're not thirsty. It's much easier to drink water than exercise or eat healthily. They feel they're doing a Good Thing with little effort. Hence all the postings on mumsnet about water drinking routines.
And it can be dangerous to drink too much
speakout · 21/03/2022 13:39

I wonder if you asked a large group of men for any good habits they have, how many would be centered around cleaning and tidying
Little to none I would expect

I noticed that too.
None of my good habits involve housework.
All self nurture.

A few years ago I became worried about my kidneys as I was weeing so much. I went to the doctor and she asked how much I was drinking. When I told her I aimed to drink 2 litres of water a day on top of teas, coffees etc she laughed and said I was weeing so much because I was drinking so much fluid! Fluid my body didn't need.

I'm in my 50s and when I was growing up the only time I drank water at school was at lunchtime and after games. People didn't carry bottles of water around, there was no such thing. I don't remember being dehydrated or thirsty.

Anyhow, I do still try to drink lots of water. I think my skin looks better if I do.

@Susu49 made me more able to cope with stress. It has taught me to detach a little,

same here - i started with headspace and can now go it alone. I do use the insight timer app sometimes. even meditate with DD at bedtime - an incredible life skill to have.

there's also guided runs on the Nike running app with andy from headspace if you fancy trying those - absolutely life changing too!

Benjispruce5 · 22/03/2022 07:42

Love Andy from Headspace’s voice. Must get back into that.

I do an asian squat when I'm brushing my teeth.
Yes, i look weird, but it's brilliant for your joints, your core and your flexibility.

PollyPutTheKettleOnKettleOn · 22/03/2022 21:48

Anyone do their exercises while baking like that lovely and batty woman from Bake Off a few years ago? Grin

ScreamingBeans · 22/03/2022 22:12

What is an asian squat please?

WhoPutThatThere · 22/03/2022 23:01

What is an asian squat please?
It's where you squat down with your feet flat on the floor and you bum almost touching the floor. it has loads of health benefits. Google it!

I hate everything on this thread. It all seems a bit Stepford Wives. Chill a bit, ladies.

DameHelena · 23/03/2022 08:50

Chill a bit, ladies.
Piss off a bit.

AiryFairy1 · 23/03/2022 09:28

@DameHelena lol, indeed!

I suffer from very low motivation/ laziness and am all for trying to do something a bit differently in the hope something eventually sticks and I can crawl out of this hole of lethargy/ boredom Grin

(Although, I love them, I agree with pp re a group of men being unlikely to share housekeeping hacks Grin)

Yes, I do, sadly, agree about the housekeeping ones. I've just had it up to here with women as a group being told to 'chill', 'be kind', 'pipe down', 'calm down' etc...
I really don't think we need to hear it on an innocuous, useful and supportive thread about stuff like freezing veg and flossing teeth.

Probably easier to chill a bit and scroll on by isn’t it?

DowningStreetParty · 23/03/2022 10:51

DameHelena I’m sick of women being speech policed too. It’s a very slippery slope.
What actually is it that bothers people about women talking together? It’s such a sexist thing to care about.

What, me? No, I prefer to call out people trying to shut me up/down.

Yes. Problem is, I can't deny that I agree with statements like 'I wonder if you asked a large group of men for any good habits they have, how many would be centered around cleaning and tidying.' It's a bit of a bind. Nonetheless, ultimately telling a group of people what's wrong with what they're talking about is not a good principle.
DowningStreetParty · 23/03/2022 11:16

Helena sorry I was talking to the surplus to requirements shush plopper

DowningStreetParty · 23/03/2022 11:19

Hopefully we can all agree it’s sexist and patronising to try to disparage women talking about everyday life hacks to help them manage things sanely, or ideas help them be healthier or happier.
